budges up on no frugal bench

ememem84 · 22/11/2016 07:12

Hoping for nsd today. Day 2 of my 3 day week.

Woke up at 545 to hear catface tearing around the hallway (she came to bed with us - I think the storms upset her so she's been sleeping under our bed). She has a cardboard box which she likes to sit in. She at just before 6 was chasing something around and smashed right into the box. Poor box didn't stand a chance. I've moved it but she's sitting on the wreckage meowing.

Cats get affected by storms etc right? She's been very strange. Friendly but also scared of everything.

Hi Trying these are the stickers I got

www.etsy.com/uk/listing/109366517/solar-system-wall-decals-vinyl-stickers?ref=shop_home_active_2

I also got a few others from an eBay seller to go on another wall, but this is the nice set.

Cag as it happens DS got a Learning Resources measuring set for his birthday. He likes it but 'differently' to the scales as they don't have the digital number display, which is his favourite thing ever (complete fascination with digital clocks etc too). I think I can make all his dreams come true for about £8, not many parents can say that Grin

mammymammyIRL · 22/11/2016 08:42

seacow I bought this IKEA digital clock link as I'm trying to remove my phone from bedroom. Haven't braved it yet, it does time, alarm, temp and a timer. Might be something that would interest your ds!

We need open drive on our car insurance policy for car au pair drives, renewal was €710 but for one off payment, dh couldn't get it cheaper, neither could I until I saw an axa advert on tv last night and gave it one more shot, including paying over 9 months €601.46 vs €760 with our current provider. Very pleased!

Got back a months house insurance as we had notified current provider we weren't renewing with them and they still took a payment €25.39 and finally got back my franchise deposit €150.00.

Yesterday was a good day money wise after the spendy weekend.
Deposit for insurance €85.35 this morning

Hey ya collie good to 'see' you Smile
Hope all is well with italian and her new baby

CollieMonster · 22/11/2016 08:53

QuidCo have denied me some cashback for the 2nd time because the retailer didn't respond to the claim. It's a shame when retailers do this. Either they are part of QuidCo or not. It was John Lewis and Nike totalling around £20. Pah! Oh well. It was fully tracked & items were not returned. Confused

I haven't started Christmas shopping yet!

mammymammyIRL · 22/11/2016 09:32

collie have you savings for Christmas? There's lots of time for doing the shopping if you can finance it. I had hoped to finish mine by end November but it's not looking good now Sad

We've decided between myself and my siblings to get my parents a flatscreen tv, my mother can't work the archaic one they currently have and it's not possible to control the sound on it either so you end up having your eardrums blasted when it's turned on. We're taking advantage of black friday and it's costing us €60 each which is very reasonable.

ememem84 · 22/11/2016 13:15

cag I was afraid for a second that it would be catfaces preferred brand. Thankfully not.

although if I'm being honest her preferred brand is "food" she'll eat anything

ememem84 · 22/11/2016 13:47

£37 in boots. 3 real techniques make up brushes (two eyeshadow fluffy ones and an eyeliner one) a burst bees lip balm, nyx gel eyeliner and a primer.

I only went in for the brushes and the lip balm.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/11/2016 14:46

Collie I would complain to JL CEO for that. I use Kidstart now for JL cashback.

£8 cat food, ready meal curries and a beer for me in Aldi.

WreckTangled · 22/11/2016 16:42

£5 something tesco

Another frugal win: 13 stuffing balls in a pack of 12. I'm on a roll guys.

mammymammyIRL · 22/11/2016 16:56

wreck I'm picturing you opening lots of packets of food at home and counting the pieces inside!!!

mammymammyIRL · 22/11/2016 16:57

Deferred spends - db is paying for dm and df's tv so don't need to pay him back until he's back in the country weekend before Christmas!!

CremeEggThief · 22/11/2016 17:02

Last night's spends: £5.43 Co-op and £1.90 bus fare home.
Today's spends: £25 weekly bus pass, £3.50 Sainsburys café and £6.50 in Sainsburys, on an Advent calendar for DS (£1.50) and sweets for the children I teach. The class teacher is making them all a sweetie cone, so this is my contribution towards it. I only had £10 available in the Nectar points double up, but I spotted a burgundy cable jumper at half price, so I treated myself to that. I had been intending to get some pajamas, but I saw lots of nicer, cosier and cheaper ones in Primark at the weekend.

WreckTangled · 22/11/2016 17:04

Mammy Grin I once had a block of cathedral city cheese and I weighed it, like you do, to find it was 150g more than I paid for!

Needastrongone · 22/11/2016 17:13

Grin @ Wrecked.

Spends.
£50 Aldi. Including pairs of riding socks for DD's stocking and a thermal mug too. And some Celebrations x 2 for Christmas.
£20 M&S.
£70 M&S, using a voucher. Hat for DGD, Chewbacca bath foam for DD Grin, a coat and a Nuxe beauty pack which I had a voucher for all but a fiver.

Oh and a fiver for an exercise class.

Frugal fail yesterday creme reminded me ddog1 got her paws on my favourite fleecy pj top yesterday Sad

I rarely wear pjs but these are great for modesty at my parents.

A concert we're going to at the weekend has been cancelled so dh & I are still going to go for the night away. Concert has been rescheduled for march so hotel for march to be budgeted for as dsd has paid for the one for this weekend as a present for dhs birthday,

allthebestplease · 22/11/2016 18:11

Lots of great deals out there at the moment.
trying I work in a private school so the sick pay rules are different etc. Oh well it will be a tight Christmas.

3 things ive achieved today

  1. walked dc to school and back instead f using the car.
  2. got house insurance sorted and its cheaper than year.
  3. have started a blog (which is very exciting, but I know its a long process, its about downsizing and saving money, I might use some of our frugal tips too).

em you've archived lots too.

Cagliostro · 22/11/2016 19:00

I have had a very quiet day. Not an NSD, as I did get a Christmas present for DD, but it was from money in my paypal. I wasn't well enough to take DD to tap class so saved the bus money as well. And I did the editing I was sent, so should get money for that soon.

Great news on the blog all I'm really enjoying writing mine (mostly about home ed stuff but will have a few other things as time goes on)

ememem84 · 22/11/2016 19:09

fluffy why. Why did you post feelunique cashback. That website is like the devil. It tempts me to buy beautifully packaged make ups. (Although tigi s factor shampoo is also brilliant).

Today's achievements

Didn't throttle the idiot sitting behind me at work.

Bought Christmas presents

Am making risotto. Mmmmmm

Dh has gone food shopping. He's left me with the risotto and a block of cheddar. From the market. From the cheese shop. I have wine. I'm waiting for the risotto to do its thing. He's being optimistic to leave the delicious precious there. Unattended. Anything could happen to it. There might be a cheese thieving raccoon.

I'd better eat it to keep it safe. Grin

WreckTangled · 22/11/2016 19:12

Oh em I had a similar achievement. I had to walk out of the room a few times just to go and rang to my manager about what an idiot this person is. Argh!

ememem84 · 22/11/2016 19:18

If I manage to not eat the cheddar that will be my "acheesement" of the day gets coat

Have just opened the post. Tax rate is going up to 17% in January. 😭

wreck my one is soooo annoying. There I was today happily trying to type up minutes from meetings and sort out client reviews and field emails etc. And she turns to me and says "so. What eyeliner do you use." Then whittered on for about 4hours about the benefits of Dior eyeliner. I get it. I have one. It's nice. But I wouldn't pay the £19 for it. But nooo I had to have the ins and outs and wherebys. About frigging eyeliner.

I don't care. I was rude to the point I mmmhmmmmed and nodded but didn't turn away from my screen. Asaaaaaaaaahhhhhh

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/11/2016 19:18

em It seemed like a good idea at the time, madness of the moment & all that.

Does nobody deliver groceries on jersey?

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/11/2016 19:20

Cat face might like cheddar, our cat has a cheesedar. He can go from deep sleep to wide awake if you have cheese.
