Hi again, we built a loft extension in our last house and put down sisal matting as flooring. It was great. In this one we have laminate downstairs and carpet up. DH has asthma / allergies and we are definateley planning on re-doing sisal again. The trouble is that the carpets were all new and good quality when we moved in .. it seems such a waste to rip them up but we also have to decorate , it was all freshly done when we arrived (house completely gutted / remodelled open plan and renovated by the last people , then they sold it because they decided they didnt like living on the island after all !!) . We've been here 8 years also..

Well ive just had a Waitrose delivery! £117!!, but £40 of that was on cat food!! if youre cat is like mine only eats whiskas it gets expensive, but waitrose are doing a 'pick your own 20% off deal' and they have whiskas on offer also , so in the end it worked out to only £2 for a packet of 12.. ( so i got 20!) Should last him a while.. I also stocked up on other things on offer , meat , lots of ground coffee, Persil , wholenut peanut butter ,olive oil etc, etc as well as basics .. so all in all a pretty good haul ( over £200 worth of stuff )

I have DGS staying this weekend , and am off to France next week.. --said it would be an expensive month..

however frugal tea.. the last 4 fishfingers out of the old packet from when DGS was here last time ( and very yummy they were too!Grin)

£10 on kebabs and beer for us both.

Classy.

The school gate sounds a nightmare, I bet men don't have these issues like women do.

What colour paints are you using need? I'm decorating too, slowly.

annatha · 24/09/2015 20:28

If anyone took part in the eBay offer where they double your money up to £30, the vouchers are available today. Spending mine on cosy toes, a rain cover for the new pram, a winter coat for dd and some Xmas jumpers for her. Quite chuffed to be getting it all for free.

Collieputthekettleon · 24/09/2015 21:02

annatha oh what eBay offer is that? I think we missed out.

I have made a total of £18.90 on eBay today! Just by selling crap I don't use. Haha!

HairsprayQueen · 24/09/2015 21:05

fluffy we had kebabs tonight too, they were lovely!

Thanks for the empathetic messages earlier, I decided today was a day off from chores so I've wasted the day playing guitar, playing Xbox and catching up on sky plus stuff, bliss! Kids out at a friends after school tomorrow so a longer day to catch up with everything and there is always the 'carrot' of wine at the end of the day on a Friday!

fuzzpig · 24/09/2015 21:13

I'm grumpy. The bus ticket app is not compatible with my phone. It's a basic smartphone but still a smartphone. Can't use my ipod as it won't even charge anymore... will have to walk down to the shops to get cash out tomorrow instead. Hmmph.

Pointlessfan · 24/09/2015 21:15

Laska that's an amazing deal you got on the cat food. Cats are fussy buggers aren't they?!
Thanks for all the advice re - wooden kitchens, I still don't know what to do!! We're not very good at building/repair type things so we might be better going for the Ikea one. Grandparents are going to get DD some pots/pans/play food etc to go with it so it should be a good xmas gift anyway.
Today would have been a NSD but I forgot about a charity cake sale at work and spent £2. Tomorrow should be NSD though.
Did anyone watch EWFL? I got really cross that while they were showing them how to save money with cheaper pasta they still boiled the water on the hob - it would be much quicker and cheaper to boil the kettle! I just did their online quiz which also annoyed me as each Q only had 2 answer choices and some of the didn't apply to me at all. I noticed on the website they are doing an xmas special, will look forward to that!
Almost the weekend - hooray!

blueteapot · 24/09/2015 21:21

I just finished watching EWFL, didnt annoy me as much as last time but still, I think saving £68 off a £200 bill for 2 adults and 2 young kids is still too much at £130 a week. I get so sucked into that show lol. Now also looking forward to the xmas special! ;)

Pointlessfan · 24/09/2015 21:31

I was also cross to see that one of the disguised items was "stuffing mix" - surely it would have been cheaper to make stuffing from breadcrumbs and dried or even fresh herbs, much tastier too. I wait until there's a load of thyme and parsley in the garden then stick it all in the food processor with some stale bread or crusts and freeze in bags ready to make stuffing in winter. Just add a chopped, fried onion and a beaten egg and stick in the oven.
I still enjoy EWFL though, I think I actually enjoy the weekly rant I have about it! DH is out tonight so I'm afraid I'm ranting to you lot. Will shut up now...

lavent · 24/09/2015 21:33

Sorry have not kept up with the thread!

I'm also decorating! I said I'd only do one room at a time but am somehow mid lounge/diner and also DS3 bedroom. It's a slog but I'm getting there!

NSD for me today.

Going into the city tomorrow to choose a new carpet for lounge so will pop into Asda when I'm there and stock up on pyjama pants as on offer 2 for £7.

Girlfriend36 · 24/09/2015 21:39

I watched EWFL this week and had a rant to myself about how ridiculous their shopping was!! However did like the look of those salmon fishcakes Grin might give those a go although would be a gamble as to whether dd would eat them!!

I would imagine a family of four could be fed easily for £100 a week? Although maybe I have forgotten how much men eat having been single for so long Grin

I was a bit Hmm at having a can of coke every day, for me that just seems really unnecessary and unhealthy. I probably have one can of coke a year though.

lavent · 24/09/2015 21:44

She also bought the cans individually Hmm

annatha · 24/09/2015 21:47

collie it was at the end of august, for a couple of days only they would double your money up to £30 in the form of a voucher. It was quite cryptic, the eBay message disappeared and I couldn't find any info on it at all so looked on an eBay selling forum and lots of people had reported the same thing, so I was quite relieved when the voucher appeared today even if it was 3 weeks late. EBay annoys me, they do lots of one day only offers so unless you have the time to take pics and list things that day you miss out.

Looking forward to catching up on EWFL even if I do love to hate it. Dh and I spend around £60 a week on food shopping for two adults and one 11 month old and we would like to cut it down to £50 max, but after watching things like that I feel that we could do much worse!

NiceandaSlice · 24/09/2015 22:42

Aww spotty no-one speaks to me at nursery either, I've been wondering if I look unfriendly. Sorry you and DD are going to miss your buddy.
NSD here. Work have changed our payroll day so I don't get paid till Tuesday :(

LittleMissLady · 25/09/2015 05:24

EWFL - I too enjoy being gobsmacked at how much money people happily waste. I really don't understand how they are so oblivious to it! £200 a week!!
I feed 4 of us for under £100 and that figure has to incorporate household stuff too!

But then again, i can't bring myself to buy pizza express pizzas when they are on offer at £4.50 each as I still think that's too much!! We make our own here. Healthier, cheaper and fun!

babsmam · 25/09/2015 06:24

I have to confess our food bill is about 100-120 a week, not every time but most. There are two adults and two children. I do know it's somewhere I could do better but I get too time poor and end up getting a sainsbury delivery.

Collieputthekettleon · 25/09/2015 06:51

Gutted I missed out on the eBay offer

I keep being told that I look like Mavis from Hotel Transylvania, shame I'm not invited to any Halloween parties as my outfit would be completely free. Grin

I can't bring myself to watch EWFL. No idea why.

NSD tomorrow. We've done really well this week. But tomorrow our only spend will be £15 for a gift.

Sunday should be a NSD and then back to NSDs until DH gets paid.

Must go back and check that I'm ticking off my September goals

blueteapot · 25/09/2015 07:08

DS SLEPT THROUGH!! I feel like a new person lol. Hope its not a fluke!

Savagebeauty · 25/09/2015 07:10

I am saving money on my food bill by dd going to uni Smile
All the crackers, soft cheese, tassimo pods and stuff she used to put in the trolley I don't buy now! And ex h is responsible for funding her through uni too so I have no cost there.
Not as much washing either.

ipsos · 25/09/2015 07:26

Well done blue

Babs my food bill is the same, but there's very little to be done about it and I'm very glad to have Tesco delivery and the consistency of products that work for our diets.

Thanks for the sisal recommendation Laska.

Sorry to hear about the school gate problems. I'm fortunate to live in a place where almost everyone is a recent international arrival so there are no cliques. We all have to walk to the school because it's a city so we all stand in the playground together and get to know each other very quickly. I'm realising now how much of a plus this is. Good luck with finding a new friend spotty.

SpottyTeacakes · 25/09/2015 07:27

Great news blue!

I need to buy bread today. Got paid an extra £400 Grin owe lots to ds Blush and will use the rest for Christmas

babsmam · 25/09/2015 07:28

Excellent blue. Bet you feel like a new woman.

babsmam · 25/09/2015 07:29

Nice one on the extra pay spotty. Makes the work worthwhile.

HairsprayQueen · 25/09/2015 07:30

Nice one blue hope it continues!

Up since 4.30, DS full of beans, me not so much!

If I go to Lidl after morning school run can I buy wine that early? (Not to drink straight away obviously but to save going out again later)

lilacclery · 25/09/2015 07:55

Lidl News in Ireland doesn't have a money off voucher Sad
