DH got headhunted again yesterday Shock. This time for a job in the far North. Tempting but we will probably have to say no this time. We will have another think in 6 months. It's a long way to go for a couple of Cornish people. Grin

A NSD is planned and I have just transferred £45 from Quidco into our savings account. Progress!

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/09/2015 08:48

I bet with the house prices up there you'd be in a 5 bed detached with room for a pony Grin

One of our relatives gets headhunted and gets fantastic packages in terms of renumeration and perks. She is flipping fantastic at her job though so she earns it back for them.

She's my hero. When I'm a proper adult I want to be like her Blush

lilacclery · 21/09/2015 08:56

Fluffy I've joined the led brigade - replaced two spotlights that were blown with 5w 380 lumen bulbs @ €6.99 from Lidl, is that a good price?

northender · 21/09/2015 08:57

Thanks for the new thread. Marking my place

diggerdigsdogs · 21/09/2015 09:03

Fucker of an expensive day here.

Took DiggerDog to the vet as he is sad and has a rash. $300 later...

Had to buy DS his asthma Meds - $150 - the good news is that he isn't in hospital. We saw a new specialist in July who put him on a new lot of meds. For the first time ever it looks like they have worked enough to keep him home Smile

babsmam · 21/09/2015 09:10

We are alright up north you know collie Grin that's good that there are opportunities though.
Bad luck digger. Can you get pet insurance?

ipsos · 21/09/2015 09:23

I think up north could be nice Collie. Have you looked at the house prices on rightmove?

Girlfriend36 · 21/09/2015 09:33

Its cold up North though init? Wink The furthest North I would ever go would be Bristol Grin

So I have lots to do today and I am sat on the sofa mums netting Hmm

SpottyTeacakes · 21/09/2015 09:49

Snap to both points girlie Grin

BoogleMcGroogle · 21/09/2015 10:01

Thanks for the new thread. Sounds like lots of eventful weekends...

I met up with oldest and best friends. We stayed in a hotel and ate out twice, but I still managed to spend less than £100 as a couple of them are super-frugal (a good influence).

Have about £4 to see me through until Wednesday, but nothing to buy and nowhere to go, so we should be fine!

Good luck to all for a frugal October (when it comes....) :)

lilacclery · 21/09/2015 10:18

That was good going boogle with costs of staying in hotel plus eating out twice. My friends were staying in a hotel sat night but I didn't join them it was €102 pps and there was a night out with lots of drink and a lunch on top of that. I had 2 diet cokes and a open sandwich with chips for ds and it was €18. Ds spilt one of my diet cokes Sad This was quite expensive for lunch really. I'm glad I just joined them for lunch as I've my car repair to pay for this week.

babsmam how are the children now?
collie is there an option for dh to try out the move temporarily and you all to follow?

Lovetoknit · 21/09/2015 11:13

Thank you for the new thread jones
Busy and rather spendy weekend - had to get football boots, shinpads and socks for ds for school, he hates football so I hope he will at least wear them this time.
In Lidl news (free magazine)there is a voucher for £5 off £40 shop valid from 26th September till 4th October.

ipsos · 21/09/2015 11:32

It is colder up north yes, but if collie can't afford more than £240 a month on food, or turn the tv on in winter where she is now, then I think it might be worth it.

northender · 21/09/2015 12:01

I need to come and have a moan, sorry. 6 weeks after buying my new (to me) car, this morning I couldn't get it into reverse or 2nd gear. Its now waiting at the garage to be looked at and I'm sat here feeling sorry for myself, waiting to hear how much it's going to cost to put right Sad. Apart from quite a spendy weekend, we've done really well for the past month to get the money together to pay for having the driveway done (something we've been wanting to have done for almost 10 years). Every time we get close something else seems to come along to set us back Angry. Putting it into perspective, we are much better off than many families but for today I just feel upset & frustrated.

So, to try to focus on the positives, I ordered 50 free prints from snapfish and a free 6x4 acrylic print after a tip off on the previous thread. All I paid was £4 postage so definitely a frugal win. I'm starting to put things by for Christmas now, as offers come up or as I see good ideas. Dd would like a Nutribullet so I need to look into the best deal.

fuzzpig · 21/09/2015 12:16

Hi frugaleers :) thanks for the new thread :)

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/09/2015 12:21

Lila Yes that's a fab price. They will last for years too.

North I'm sorry the cars playing up.

lilacclery · 21/09/2015 12:21

northender does this come under guarantee? Normally you've 3 months with a secondhand car.

BoogleMcGroogle · 21/09/2015 12:22

northender - go back to the dealer. We learned the hard way that there is normally some sort of warentee with second hand cars.

lilacclery · 21/09/2015 12:33

I now have 3 led ones and 3 standard ones in the kitchen, replacing as they blow. Dining Room is nearly dark with the amount that need replacing there! Sitting room ones seem fine as do the outside ones.

The kitchen ones seem to blow more due to the amount of insulation around them combined with heat of kitchen I think.

I don't think they're a standard lidl product but I can go to that branch again on Thurs evening to pick up some more.

SpottyTeacakes · 21/09/2015 12:48

Well dd enjoyed judo so that'll be £40.50 for the term. I'm hoping dh will pay.

Nsd today though.

northender · 21/09/2015 13:03

No warranty, long story but bought through someone we know. Nothing we can do. Still waiting to hear.......

TheOnlyPink · 21/09/2015 13:16

Hi everyone, I haven't been keeping up over the weekend, so hope I haven't missed too much. Thanks for the new thread Jones

Had a very frugal weekend, just topped up on some groceries for €14. It's payday on Wed, and haven't a bean until then. Hate this, but am feeling very proud that we a) have all our bills paid without going into the overdraft, b) had enough money to pay the unexpected bill last week, without having to borrow, c) that we haven't had to use the credit card, we are working our arses off to clear it, so using it would keep putting us back!
So am feeling pretty pleased with myself, we've had many months like these, but we would be in debt after it and bills wouldn't be paid. I have enough petrol left in my car, and enough food in the cupboards, so wouldn't be spending anyway!

Hope everyone is well!

annatha · 21/09/2015 13:31

Thanks for the new thread Smile

Spent £60 in tesco today on a bloody top up shop Angry £20 was on dh's medication but still money we don't really have. We were planning on getting the meds and things that Aldi don't sell then going on to Aldi to get the rest but its chucking it down and dd was playing up so we thought we'd just grab everything from tesco instead. I posted some returns this morning so there's some money coming back I suppose.

Trying a Jamie Oliver chicken tikka recipe for dinner, hopefully it'll be nice as the recipe serves 6-8 so I'll be freezing a lot of it.

HairsprayQueen · 21/09/2015 13:42

Love do you get Lidl news in store? We used to get the lidl offers leaflets in through the door but don't anymore.

I have a Waitrose voucher this week jut would be handy for next. Just going on Waitrose site to figure out the choose your offers thing.

CremeEggThief · 21/09/2015 14:13

Back from my trip to Aldi. £3.50 bus fare and £30.56 there. They had everything I needed, except non-bio washing powder/liquid, which I REALLY need, so will have to get that from the village Costcutter soon, and DS's veggie burgers (he prefers fake meat ones and I like proper vegetable or bean).
