Afternoon all!!

£17 on donuts for work today to celebrate my embracing the aging process last week.

Bumped into a friend at lunch who kindly bought me a belated birthday sandwich.

Came home to fine a cheque from my grandma in the post. And a refund of my gp fees. Yay!

girlie I think the bag charges are for all large shops/chains so yes that would include clothes shops. About bloody time too I can't stand plastic bags and what they do to wildlife!

Ememem84 · 05/10/2015 18:14

Electro I'm not sure of your work situation but will your employers pay for your glasses. Mine will pay up to a certain amount as I need them for screen work.

Could you look into this?

Ursulatodd · 05/10/2015 18:26

electrolux Sad what a rubbish day. I really hope you get your glasses sorted soon. It's the little things that really get us down isn't it? Hope you're children are feeling ok too? I'm feeling run-down today despite a quiet, lots of sleep weekend. Early night again I think.

£9 something in Aldi today on bread, milk, butter, fruit, potatoes, peas and carrots. Meal plan:
M: butternut squash soup and cheese on toast (so good -stuffed now!)
T: bacon, pea and pesto risotto
W: same as above
T: scrambled egg on toast
F: JPs and tuna salad
S: chicken curry
S: same as above

Wolfcub · 05/10/2015 18:40

Electrolux, hope you can find some cheap glasses online.

Spends day tooday, some work spends which will be at least partially refunded and a bit of an impulse spend. I always buy something from the children in need collection each year - mug, ironing board ,loads of bears etc. So when I got an email to advertise the Pudsey bear pandora charm I had a very non frugal moment and ordered one.

blueteapot · 05/10/2015 19:00

:( electrolux. Ive heard glasses direct are good online, get a free eye test eg specsavers for the prescription then order online... what do you need the glasses for? Do you wear them all the time? Id be tempted if it was only for driving or similar to tape them up etc if thats possible.

On a frugal glasses theme this weekend my DH resprayed part of his frames where the paint had chipped and theyre grand again.

I wonder is there anything like a low income glasses exemption like the dentist etc

fuzzpig · 05/10/2015 19:02

Hugs, Electrolux

blueteapot · 05/10/2015 19:03

£49 at lidl for a huge shop incl wine, definitely a convert. Will report back on the wine as I have downton abbey recorded and tonights the night

TheOnlyPink · 05/10/2015 19:10

Oh electrolux you poor thing. Flowers really hope you manage to sort something.

Wrt the plastic bag charges, we've had it for ages here in ROI, and clothes shops give you paper bags. They are easily recyclable, so aren't a hazard like the plastic ones afaik. Nightmare on a wet day, but tbh I've forgotten what it's like to get plastic bags now.

Ememem84 · 05/10/2015 19:15

electro or try onespecs

I know youve probably already looked but you wouldnt qualify for an optical voucher at all?

www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/am-i-entitled-to-an-nhs-optical-voucher.aspx?CategoryID=68&SubCategoryID=157

Thats pants. I wear glasses for driving but only that, they're in a sorry state paint wise but wont be replacing them any time soon as they still function.

Wolfcub · 05/10/2015 19:33

Ouch Electrolux Dh has prism lenses so I have an idea how expensive those can be.

CremeEggThief · 05/10/2015 19:42

Oh Electrolux, that's rubbishSad. I hope tomorrow will be a better day for you. Brew

I finally found a local Pilates class, so started back this evening, after a break of 5 months! I enjoyed it, but I bet I ache all over tomorrow. Anyway, that was £21, for 3 lessons and £3.10 return bus fare and £2 in the Co-op, on yogurts and Jaffa cake Halloween bars. I also did my online Sainsburys order to come on Thursday for £44.36. I took me ages, as I was so determined to keep to my budget.

blueteapot · 05/10/2015 19:57

ah sorry just saw we x-posted Re: the voucher sorry!

babsmam · 05/10/2015 20:09

Sorry to hear that Electrolux. (((((hugs))))))
A pal of mine rates glasses direct. She has a straightforward prescription though. Still worth a look.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2015 20:43

Well I don't blame you for being fed up with Monday electrolux, would a university ophthalmology clinic be near you? they'd love a patient with a complex prescription.

Some here www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1CAFA_enGB642GB642&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=uk%20universitys%20with%20eye%20clinics.

Dh uses "specs for less" for his shooting glasses (clay pigeon not live ones).

SpottyTeacakes · 05/10/2015 21:02

My dw didn't get my shepherds pie dish clean

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2015 21:05

Oh no, do you scrape plates? If it's a baked on food wash try two spoons of powder instead.

I bought a little spatula in poundworld for the job. it lives in the dw and is orange.

Whatabout · 05/10/2015 21:14

NSD! Sainsbury shopping came but that was accounted for already. One egg broken so the rest were free. Bought another few items for the Christmas cupboard so I'm feeling quite chuffed.

Sanitary towels - does anyone use supermarket own? I usually stick to always or body form but feel I'm being ripped off. I only ever am able to buy night time towels due to heavy flow. I don't think washable would handle my periods and tampons have always leaked so I think a moon cup would be an expensive mistake. Sorry it's not a very savoury topic but now I'm no longer pregnant and may not be again I've got 15 years of spending ££££ every month on pads!

annatha · 05/10/2015 21:41

Hope you have a better day tomorrow Electrolux, these sorts of things always seem to happen at the worst time.

whatabout I used to use supermarket own brand (not the basics/value range if they even exist, just normal own brand) and they've always been fine for me and I would use mainly night time ones too. Maybe just get one pack to try and if they're rubbish use them at the end of your period.

Spendy day today. We went to the metrocentre for Xmas shopping and came out £80 lighter with no bloody presents to show for it. We did get lunch there and some clothes for dd and bits we needed like shampoo etc, but we didn't need two yankee wax tarts or a trip to Lush Blush

£45 shop at aldi which included cat food, a birthday cake for my dad and some mince pies so at least the food shop wasn't too expensive for a change. And we're both still stuffed from our late lunch so the meal plan will be shuffled along and include another day now.

574ejones · 05/10/2015 21:51

What - have you considered intervention which would reduce your periods, like a coil? I haven't had mine that long but so far, so good. Have used supermarket tampons with no problems before.

Electro Flowers hope tomorrow is a better day.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2015 21:51

I wonder if smartprice inco pads would be cheaper and more absorbant?. One of my colleagues flooded so badly she had a hysterectomy at 34. She was always white as a sheet.

Or that coil with hormones in, knew someone who had that who had no periods but they would only give it to women who had had kids.

Girlfriend36 · 05/10/2015 22:01

You can buy Always in Poundland for erm well £1 Grin otherwise i always get supermarket own, the night ones as also have very heavy periods. Some are better than others tbh, just avoid the scented ones they are horrible!
