Have a look at HotUKDeals for the best price before making major purchases. I have saved a small fortune on school uniform by looking for deals posted here first.

We spent the afternoon at a NT park. All free. We flew the the kite, walked a couple of miles and sat in the sun. Was lovely. Will put a photo up if I can reset my password as no idea what it is.

Unescorted · 01/08/2015 18:29

An Accountant would do a smoke & mirrors thing and accrue for the days you haven't done yet. I find as I get my head around the last accounting wheeze the rules get changed so you end up accounting for money not yet spent on Wednesdays but only if the previoius Thursday was wet.

Pointlessfan · 01/08/2015 18:48

Thanks for the mouldy tent advice Collie, I'll be off to buy some Miltons tomorrow!
Been clearing out the garage all afternoon. Found one mouse, an enormous spider and a lot of junk for the tip but nothing actually worth selling. Still have a few boxes to go through but I was losing the will to live!
Bought DD new shoes (£18) and MIL is treating us to a takeaway.

It's easy to forget what's on your doorstep Smile

This is NT but it's free (the car park charges but we park on the road). You only have to pay if you want to go into the house.

lilacclery · 01/08/2015 19:40

I took this tip from a colleague who lives in a different part of the county to me to take advantage of stuff that's in our locality.
I've taken it a step further to focus on free or very cheap activities. Today we visited a local holy well that I've never been to, it was a long walk from the road & was so tranquil even dd5 commented on how peaceful it was.

Don't envy anyone the car shopping, they're a major drain on money Sad

Unescorted · 01/08/2015 19:51

It is really easy to forget how fantastic things are in your own area. I live in an area that people travel to have their holidays.... yet I still feel that I need to go on holiday.

SeasideSunshine · 01/08/2015 19:52

We do need to check out some of the local NT spots. I've been meaning to get a NT membership, perhaps now is the time to do it? Even going to a few places would cover the cost, wouldn't it?

girliefriend · 01/08/2015 20:12

I feel really lucky to live where we do as well, so many lovely walks and places to visit locally. Where is that Spotty?

Had a quiet afternoon and a very yummy but frugal dinner! Had a salmon fillet which was half price at Morrisons (£2.24 for 2 fillets) with potatoes and salad from my mums allotment Smile was delicious. Homemade dressing as well!

Found a voucher on a Kellogs packet for free adult entry into Sealife which we may go to in Weymouth so keeping that!

SpottyTeacakes · 01/08/2015 20:18

It's Petworth Park girlie Smile

girliefriend · 01/08/2015 20:36

We are cider country bumpkins wheely Wink

I am fortunate though, drive 5 to 10 mins in any direction and you are in the country side Smile

Reading a book at the moment which says to be happy you should practice being grateful every day! So today I am grateful to live where we do Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 01/08/2015 20:41

I look out my window and see fields and horses Smile it's a pita sometimes but the grass is always greener et al

You can't see pictures on the app Angry

wheelycote · 01/08/2015 20:43

Thank you for previous info for camping at kielderGrin we're booked into the kielder observatory...my eldest is a big astronomy fan ..we're taking his telescope too

Pointlessfan · 01/08/2015 20:49

That will be amazing wheely.
My mum kindly pays for our NT membership as my grandmother did before her. I expect one day it'll be me paying for everyone! It's lovely though, the gardens are always beautiful. We use NT places as rest stops on long journeys and take a picnic. Much nicer than stopping at motorway services.

wheelycote · 01/08/2015 20:49

Missymoomoo1979 · 01/08/2015 21:29

We have a fantastic park where we live, alot is free and there are rides that require tickets, but you can have a great day there without spending anything.

I've just put £8 worth of 2 pound coins into my passport money fund, I'm hoping to get enough in it to pay for all of them or even most, that was the money left over from meeting my cousin, my tin is feeling quite heavy Grin
