A good day here! NSD + Payday + last day of term + 6 weeks off work ????????????

I'm looking forward to getting my act together and a handle on the spending, my plan is to declutter and have a good sort out without replacing anything I decide we don't need anymore.

With 3 dc at home the food shopping and groceries are almost certain to increase thoughWink

Peppapissinpig · 22/07/2015 18:22

Thanks for all suggestions. This thread has certainly been a wake up call not to just throw cash at things. Rather I need to be more pro-active and organised about what I'm actually spending money on.

Peppapissinpig · 22/07/2015 18:40

Does anyone know how good M&S are with returns? Bought a pair of pjs (for me) in April and buttons just keep falling off the top. 1st one fell off within a few days. Not enough spares to repair myself.

Old Peppa would've just thrown the top away but now am thinking about returning them - I still have receipt.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/07/2015 18:54

I returned tarnished coasters after nearly a year and got a refund. Try it. There will be a christmas bargain thread running in the christmas section on here, they will most likely have something for him.

Spotty I am really sorry, at least a diagnosis leads to a treatment plan though.

£30 on a decorative thing for the lounge.

www.ccwater.org.uk/savewaterandmoney/lower-bills-for-customers-struggling-to-pay/ Is this any use to anyone?

Thanks fluffy. I'm feeling fine about it, almost relieved because I had to beg my GP for the referral she said the might not accept it and thought I was overreacting. I started thinking I was too and maybe had health anxiety. Anyway turns out she didn't even put the two most important factors into the referral so I'm more upset about that than the actual diagnosis Confused

I just spent £3 at toys r us. Ds got a gift card for there for his last birthday and I found something he will love just the astronomical postage which meant I needed to top up. No store nearby to collect from either.

Laska42 · 22/07/2015 20:04

spendy day , ( i meet DS i end up paying for everything !! ah well.0
£8.60 on lunch
£5 in BHS on sockd for him
£4 in pound shop on toiletries (though £1 was on the brilliant insect bite stuff they sell for me . XPel , it really is good )
gave him £20 (he is going away to a reinactment thing this wekend , so its for food) (yes my DS is one of those weird bearded reinactors!!)
£1 on work colection
£4 (2x£2 coins) in my £2 pig
But I did my YNAB and transfered another £30 (as I dont need to get my hair done this month) into savings.

Frugal win.. the skirt I sent back , ( last week if you remember i said that i'd re orderdthe same in smaller size and it was £20 cheaper ), and theve given me the postage back as well as the cost of the original.

(This was Toast.. i posted a couple of days ago that they had also given me £9.11 quidco on something I had previously sent back.. they seem to be paying me to shop there right now!!)

car insurance quote came, its £364 , cant remember what we paid last year.. ill look on quidco though for better deal

Bit of a frugal fail spent 9.37 in Tesco and then decided that the flat really needs sorting and took half the bedding down to the laundrette which was another £5.

I'm not sure Primark pillows are designed to be washed. At least one of them looks like it's bitten the dust.
Consultant from accepting the referal.
How annoying about the referral letter, Spotty. Lucky it didn't stop the

girliefriend · 22/07/2015 21:04

Fluffy that water link is interesting but i don't think i'm poor enough to benefit from it, I do think its criminal how much we get charged for water round here

Laska42 · 22/07/2015 21:17

Peppa My £2 pig is Brill! (and a quite painless way of saving for treats ) I managed to save enough in it before my hols (fron Jan to June) to buy my wonderful Tilley hat , a pair of sandals and Blush six bars of Montezumas Sea dog chocolate - the best! which I got a friend to get me when she was over that way last (BTW I still have 5 bars n my secret chocolate stash! they have to last me until I next go over in September)

Laska42 · 22/07/2015 21:20

Heck my spelling !! (esp. the post before last) I have A level English and everything.. (just type too quick and don't check it) Grin

fuzzpig · 22/07/2015 21:49

I would recommend Happyland for a 2yo. :) Mothercare have a sale on so you may be able to get some in there.

Pointlessfan · 22/07/2015 22:01

Just had a very quick catch up on the thread as we've been getting ready for camping all evening. We are hiring a roof box to see if it's worth buying one!
Didn't quite manage NSD. £3.99 on a collapsible colander as I suddenly remembered our last camping trip and fishing pasta out of boiling hot water with a fork! Also spent my Xmas money (yes it's taken me until now!) on 2 tops and a cardie. The cardie was £10 in Next sale.
Don't know if I'll have WiFi over the next few days but will check in on Sunday evening! Have a good weekend all!

Laska42 · 22/07/2015 22:04

My DGS aged 2 1/2 absolutely adores the Ikea wooden train set we got him to play with when he is here (like brio but much, much cheaper).. You can get a starter set for £8 and add extra track and tunnels and more trains to it as you go along..

I see the motorway everyday, and I still have cabin fever of the SW, collie.

fuzzpig · 22/07/2015 23:48

I would loooove to go away for a bit. Pretty much impossible this year (although we have a couple of nights at SILs in the west country for a wedding so that'll be fab) but for next year my parents are letting us use points from their holiday club thingies. Still feels like an awfully big commitment with flight costs, but would be absolutely amazing if we could possibly manage it.

I made my advert for piano lessons today, not posted it online yet (planning on local FB selling site - that's where I got my first pupil, from just a brief bit of text, but want to make it a bit more eye catching this time) - I'm also now wondering about printing some off to put... somewhere?! Not sure where though as most places seem to be (understandably) limited to community/non profit type stuff. Is it a terrible idea to put my mobile number on that sort of thing? Maybe I should just put my email on there.

Fuzz I think putting your mobile number on is fine. I agree with schools if you can, also round here there's little notice boards outside the village shops and also community notice boards in Tesco and Costa. It only takes one person to look who then speaks to their friend who's looking for lessons etc.

First day of the holidays today and we're going to the library. Also out of bread so will need to get some or we won't have any lunch!

avocadotoast · 23/07/2015 06:03

Pointless where did you get your colander? We have a collapsible one but it's about 10 years old now and starting to split. I haven't been able to find another one!

babsmam · 23/07/2015 06:36

Oh no I now need a. Collapsible colander too.

SpottyTeacakes · 23/07/2015 06:38

I want one and I don't even camp... I've just googled and loads came up
