Your lettuce discussion has led to me googling and finding this approach which involves 'planting' an old lettuce stump and it growing new leaves. Never seen this before.

It's dh's 30th in December so I need to start saving. I have no idea what to get him. I've booked two nights away in London which he doesn't know about...

GrinGrin Ipsos apparently the law for the pension hasn't come in yet but will soon? His boss was walking about it yesterday, he said. Maybe I'll get him some life insurance Grin

Life insurance that pays out to you....

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2015 08:31

Of course unescorted Wink I'm not looking forward to getting my own life insurance with diabetes and a deteriorating muscular and nerve disease Hmm

Unescorted · 19/07/2015 08:37

It may be better value to put the premiums in a saving account / ISA if the quotes are hugely high.

Morning everyone, my mum has popped by and taken dd out to do a Parkrun so I am enjoying a lovely lie in and breakfast in bed Grin

I would love to grow some salad but only have a few pots and no garden Sad keep wondering if I should put our name down for an allotment or if it would be too much of a bind? Ipsos I didn't know you could plant an old carrot?! Might try that in one of my pots!!

Should be a nsd today, dd has swimming later last one of the term and other than that no plans!!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2015 09:08

Dh is starting our kitchen. He got some 'new to us' cabinet doors from a job which he fitted ages ago and now his boss has given him new worktop and really nice tiles so today he's replacing some of the worktop. We WILL have a nice ish kitchen one day.

Girlie I've done lettuce in window boxes before and it worked a treat. Helped to keep the slugs off too!

Unescorted · 19/07/2015 10:19

Pots are great for leaves - you can also smear vasaline around the rim to keep teh slugs off.

Has anyone successfully grown basil? I've tried (indoors) using supermarket fresh pots but it always dies within a couple of weeks Hmm

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/07/2015 11:29

I bought a fresh pot the other week Peppa. I was thinking I might have to move it because it doesn't seem to like where it is but perhaps it just difficult to keep alive. It seems to need watering about 3 times a day at the moment just to stop it wilting.

It's still not looking very appetising.

AdoraBell · 19/07/2015 11:34

collie break up washed egg shells and scatter around the plants. slugs/snails will avoid Due To sharp edges.

Agree 30, or even younger is best time To sort Life insurance and pensión, still seems like a rotten birthday present though.

We're off out as soon as The Teenager gets herself movingHmm will report back later.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2015 11:40

Don't worry adora I was joking Grin I will get him something he will like. I'll try anyway Hmm maybe I'll let him take me up the shard when we go to London...

Outwith · 19/07/2015 11:40

Does anyone know what's cheaper- roller or Roman blinds? I'm guessing roller blinds. Also, which do you prefer? My blinds thread is a bit boring quiet Grin.

Peppapissinpig · 19/07/2015 11:55

Outwith...I guess preference is down to what you need the blind to do. For bedrooms I'd go with roller for blackout purposes. Downstairs Roman for decorative

Outwith · 19/07/2015 12:04

Peppa, yes, they're for bedrooms...
