Who fancies a No Spend Day thread (like MSE forum's) ?

I prefer MN to MSE but would like to do some NSDs in January. Anyone else interested in doing a support thread ? this is the idea

I have a shocking spending habit and i really, really need to curb it. So I am going to have a goal of 10 NSDs in January and aim to manage 3 in a row. That would be a massive achievement for me.

I'd like to spend no money for the next 12 days. Till pay day. But just one day at a time and all that. What bugs me is that I forgot the other day. I forgot to take some lunch in and went to the supermarket.

silverfrog · 13/01/2013 20:09

Am finally on 4/10! Grin

Hopefully I can continue and have a few nsds in a row...

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 13/01/2013 20:26

I've had another nsd today, but can't remember what number I'm on,need to check back.

missbennett · 13/01/2013 21:30

Well yesterday was a definite NSD, so that was number 5. And today was rather good too, went shopping with DD2. Treated us to a coffee out of 'additional' cash ie repayment from ExH, so no spend there. Then had to buy bread, had an M&S voucher with £3.27 on it, used it for bread and a cake for pudding so no actual spend at all! Hooray, that is 6/12!!

MirandaWest · 13/01/2013 21:55

Just realised I haven't spent any money today so that's NSD number 4 :)

MrsShrek3 · 13/01/2013 23:43

Yesterday was one - only ds buying batteries with his own money Grin
Today was shopping day [weeps] ohhh lordy. I even managed to spend £58 in Aldi....Shock Hopefully with that amount of stuff I won't need to buy anything all week!!

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 14/01/2013 09:08

Oooh, good, a NSD thread over here because I kind of hate MSE instead! I am at 6/15, thinking it's going to be too ambitious, but happy to join you lot nonetheless.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 14/01/2013 10:28

Today's looking good for a NSD. Want to improve on last week and only have 1 weekday SD.

lorisparkle · 14/01/2013 11:03

it will be 8 / 15 today as not planning to go anywhere. tomorrow will be one of our spending days. having two small shops delivered with lots of milk seems to be working well. it also helps that I took advantage of waitroses 50 pounds off 5 weekly shops before Christmas and filled up the freezer and stock cupboard with their essentials range and 3 for 10 pounds on meat. it was an even nicer surprise when they sent me 25 more pounds worth of vouchers.

greensnail · 14/01/2013 18:15

Dentist today so that was a spend. Managed to convince both dds to let the dentist look at their teeth for the first time ever though so that was a successGrin

Hoping for ansd tomorrow.

snozzlemaid · 14/01/2013 18:33

NSD for me yesterday. But not another today - had to start buying ds a few bits for his D of E expedition. Got him a waterproof coat in the sale for £25. And also have to pay dd's guide's subs later, another £25.
6/10

missbennett · 14/01/2013 20:01

Quiet day at home today and did various small jobs. And didn't spend any money Smile so I'm up to 7/12. Child benefit has gone in but need to renew professional registration and that will have to be the priority as without that I can't actually work. Forever seem to be robbing Peter to pay Paul but if I can get through this week, it is pay day next week and hopefully I can start to catch up with everything. Hopefully!

TeWiSavesTheDay · 14/01/2013 22:41

Played in the snow today - delightfully free.

NSD 5/10

AViewfromtheFridge · 14/01/2013 23:25

8/15 for me I think. Although I only managed it today because I accidentally left without paying for the food I had tonight! Blush

MrsShrek3 · 14/01/2013 23:37

8/15 for me too Smile need at least another couple this week to stay on target.

TinyDiamond · 15/01/2013 00:17

I'm now on 5/15 wahey

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly · 15/01/2013 00:23

8/10 today, brought lunch into work - was supposed to go to cinema yesterday but had lazy day instead so that was an NSD too. I think I may target 12 instead of 10...

Living · 15/01/2013 09:58

Rather late update - I think I'm now at 6/10. However, I'm not sure how I'm counting when DH pops out for something! If we're go out together and it's something for both of us then I count it as a spend. Yesterday he had to go out and get water (can't drink tap water here) - spend for the family but I wasn't with him so haven't counted it.

Hmm. Need to set some proper rules for myself for next month!

TinyDiamond · 15/01/2013 12:01

Def another NSD today so 6/15 Grin

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 15/01/2013 20:20

Got another one in today so thats me half way 5/10. It was pretty easy really because I was in work all day and I took a homemade lunch with me. I have a present to by though so tomorrow definately won't be one.

missbennett · 15/01/2013 22:14

Into work today but no money spent, so that makes 8/12. In a bizzare sort of way it is quite relaxing - there are a lot of decisions I don't need to make because I've no money so there is no option - have avoided all the stress of the sales!

TheHappyCamper · 16/01/2013 16:38

I have managed two more NSDs on Monday and today so I'm now on 7/10. We did a proper meal plan on Sunday and bought just what veg etc we needed to go with all the meat out of the freezer plus bread and milk. It only came to £12.50! Not bad if that's my weekly shop this week! Grin

We've had/planned roast beef dinner, chicken kievs, jacket potatoes with cheese n beans, chilli and rice, homemade fish n chips, and chicken fahitas.

I made a massive batch of tuna pasta for work lunches. I'm enjoying it so far but fear I may grow tired of it by Friday Grin

Well done to everybody so far - I can't actually believe how little you cna get away with sending and still cary on as normal e.g. free walks or hikes, going to the park instead of soft play etc.

Oh and I'm not going without luxuries entirely - I caved and cracked into DD's giant Thornton's Chocolate Santa Shock

TinyDiamond · 16/01/2013 17:32

7/15 yay I'm on a roll!!!

insancerre · 16/01/2013 17:37

well done everyone
i am on day 8/10

silverfrog · 16/01/2013 18:14

I had a nsd on Monday, but that's all so far this week sadly.

I am doing much better on top up shops though, as this is really make me think about it all.

Now if I could just manage to get rid of all the necessary spends, like car service, or dentist bills Grin

5/10 for me so far.
