Who fancies a No Spend Day thread (like MSE forum's) ?

I prefer MN to MSE but would like to do some NSDs in January. Anyone else interested in doing a support thread ? this is the idea

I have a shocking spending habit and i really, really need to curb it. So I am going to have a goal of 10 NSDs in January and aim to manage 3 in a row. That would be a massive achievement for me.

No spend day 6 here

androbbob · 09/01/2013 18:25

As planned another NSD today. That makes 4/10. Hoping for another one tomorrow.

shockers · 09/01/2013 19:28

Another one today... that's two in a row! I forgot my sandwiches this morning, but managed to cadge some leftovers from the school cook (it was a slow day for pasta Grin), so didn't have to go shopping.

Shinyshoes1 · 09/01/2013 19:33

2/15 Grin
I will get there but NOT tomorrow. I've run out of black sacks so need to buy some

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 09/01/2013 19:50

3/10 here Smile
Was quite easy though I was in work all day and I took some veg couscous and a yoghurt with me for lunch.
Failed yesterday though, I compketely forgot about nsd's and bought a cooked chicken and an sensored air freshner.
Probably won,t manage it tomorrow either as dh is off work with me.
So many of you are doing great, lets keep up the good work people.

greensnail · 09/01/2013 20:46

Aargh, I'm rubbish at this. Had a nice NSD planned for me and dd2 today involving dropping more stuff at charity shops then a trip to the library. Ended up taking car into town so I had to pay for parking, then thought as I'm spending I might as well treat us to lunch in town too.

Think I'm going to have to allocate a certain amount to bus fares/ parking per week and not include this as a spend as this is proving to be my downfall. Tomorrow will be taking dd2 to gymnastics in the morning which is already paid for but will need to take a bus to get back in time to pick up dd1 from nursery (DH has the car tomorrow) so that would be another spend already. Will put £10 in a pot this evening I think to cover parking and buses for the next week and will only count it as a spend if I exceed the £10 in a week.

Still 1/10 at the moment though....

Booyhoo · 09/01/2013 22:35

ooh i've forgotten to update this!

had a very naughty spend yesterday. got the dcs mcdonald's after tae kwon doe class! Blush

no spending today though Grin

6/20

spending tomorrow as i'm at the hairdresser

hurricanewyn · 10/01/2013 06:20

Another NSD here today, so I'll be on 5/10 - halfway there!

ComradeJing · 10/01/2013 08:27

I'm on a no spend day here but I have paid some bills. Not counting bills as spends so 3/15 for me.

PolkadotCircus · 10/01/2013 10:00

Day 5/10 here too!

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly · 10/01/2013 10:20

Day 5/10 done yesterday! Needed a top up shop though so spent ?25 this morning - I'm racing through milk etc as I'm studying at home ATM. Tomorrow should be another though, fingers crossed.

Also I did up a spreadsheet - well updated one.

I keep one with a list of all my d/d's, amts and due dates. Every few days I update it with my balance & work out what d/d's are still due (and include any large unexpected cash/card expenses that are coming up, so I know how much I have till payday.

I've now put in a list of all the days in the mth and whether each has been an NSD, a "compulsory" spend such as food, money to school for a trip, or "frivolous" spending like wine, new books (have about 5 unread and can also go to library or charity shop), clothes etc.

I've RAGged it (coded each Red, Amber, Green) and hope to not have any Reds this mth, all Amber and Green so far, very satisfying to look at! (Sad or what but as I have ?50 less a mth to spend due to the bloody budget I'll do anything that works...)

lorisparkle · 10/01/2013 10:29

6/15 for me today. not going anywhere to spend any money. was going to buy pizza for tea but decided to be good and use something from the freezer.

lorisparkle · 10/01/2013 10:30

forgot to say - love your spreadsheetGrin

silverfrog · 10/01/2013 12:20

still on 3/10 - bloody dentist again! £350 this time, so really do need to start upping the NSDs Hmm

really does ake you think about each and every purchase though, and I have definitely cut out a lot of 'extra' spends - the stuff at the supermarket that just finds it's way into my trolley (Wink), or the extra bits when I fill up the car etc.

now I just need to find a way to make sure that essential spending is reduced too - that's the hard bit atm!

TeWiSavesTheDay · 10/01/2013 14:05

Ouch! Hope it wasn't too painful at the dentist.

We're not going out again today so have finally made 4/10!

Nothing needed tomorrow either.

TheHappyCamper · 10/01/2013 17:41

NSD 5/10 here. Am very pleased with myself Grin. It's so easy when I'm at work. I am enjoyingseeing what can be made from cupboard/freezer ingredients. Freezer is down to about 3/4 full so far Blush

bigkidsdidit · 10/01/2013 18:02

Still on 5 too, stuck here since Sunday. DH forgot to put yeast in the read machine so we were greeted with a rock hard lump this morning, so no sandwiches and bought lunch..

This week has been really hard!

greensnail · 10/01/2013 18:18

Hooray, 2/10 today! We've run out of bread though so ell definitely need to shop tomorrow so planning to meal plan and make a proper list this evening fire a big shop tomorrow.

missbennett · 10/01/2013 19:13

4/12 today Smile and even better, I made a profit! Took a 10 euro note left from the summer and exchanged it for the princely sum of £7.19! Was meeting a friend for a coffee and thought could pay from that and not count as a spend, but very lovely friend bought the coffee, so a definite NSD today.
Planned spends tomorrow - need petrol and grocery shopping so will do in one hit and also review the state of play in the bank and if I can make any payments to anyone, but Sat should be NSD as have to do first aid course so will be occupied all day!

TinyDiamond · 10/01/2013 20:10

had a naughty couple of days spending Blush so still on 4/15. I reckon Sunday will be my next nsd now

MrsRandom78 · 10/01/2013 20:22

3/10 today! Dead chuffed as normally by this point in the month I'm well into my overdraft, but even including extra Christmas expense that came off this pay, I'm still in the black (just!) - whoop!

androbbob · 10/01/2013 21:32

Opps a little spend today - £3 in total out of my purse. DS was 'starving' when came out of afterschool club so we had to bus a snack for him and ended up with some pasties for tea from the pound bakery.

Tomorrow is a planned spend day - £3 for a buttie at lunchtime. Will foregoe the crisps and cake though in an attempt to be frugal!

Definately feeling the benefit of this NSD - more organised about food buying and planning and thinking about what spending on.

Need to manage 6 more NSD in the next two weeks before payday on 25th.

akaemmafrost · 10/01/2013 22:46

Didn't quite make it today £1.45 on a massive tiger loaf but will last till the weekend so it's not too bad. Determined to make it two days now though. Have to spend on Sunday because that's weekly shop day.

nkf · 10/01/2013 23:15

Help! I totally forgot today was meant to be a nsd. So annoyed. Now, I probably won't be able to fit one in till Monday. Grrr.

Bullets · 11/01/2013 00:17

My first spending day of the week!

Used money out the 'spare change' jar to pay for the bus and a few pints of milk so was hoping for another NSD but took DH out this evening for an early birthday meal so currently on 5/15.

Hoping Sunday will be a NSD as we're off to Center Parcs next week and I won't be able to deny myself a daily Starbucks hot choc while DS wears himself out on the softplay, aah happy days Grin
