quench I had it in January and the cough only appeared at the end. Did my head in.

Similar symptoms but do have a painful chesty cough. Trust me to get it when the weather turns cold.

I can't imagine having this in the heat 😯

I caught Covid in January 2021, have got Long Covid and am on line with a Long Covid support group. I used to go for long walks with my husband, could remember several pages of script for Am Dram productions and never, for one moment, thought that Covid would feel anything other than a bad cold. It's absolutely floored me. I need a rest after a shower. Please. Don't treat Covid as a something and nothing illness. It's not.

I've had it 3 times so far, no symptoms each time - think I got lucky

PurpleMonkeys · 21/09/2023 21:30

I had COVID in 2021.
Worst I have ever felt. I came very close to calling an amber lamps to take me to the dock and chuck me in the bastard sea.

I couldn't breath deeper than a pant. Couldn't get up out of bed. Couldn't barely roll over.

Buuuuuuutttttt the weird and funny but, before the 'oh fuck shoot me now' bit. The loss of smell. Totally totally bizarre. I was spraying perfume and sniffing it, I sprayed some blokes Lynx spray right in my face and couldn't smell it. I even, god help me..., stuck my nose in the cats litter box after she'd done a massive shit and I couldn't smell a thing. Bizarre and totally bonkers and weird.. it was very entertaining..

MagentaRocks · 21/09/2023 21:30

Since I posted earlier it’s got worse. Just had a sneezing fit and I am in so much pain with my back. I am just lying here now with my back spasming with pain. I just want to cry and don’t know what to do with myself.

ssd · 21/09/2023 21:35

You poor soul. Would a hot bath help?

MagentaRocks · 21/09/2023 21:39

I tried that this morning, it did help a bit but then getting out of the bath was painful.

BCBird · 21/09/2023 21:41

Best wishes to u all. I got it now- first time. It been like a bad cold. Fingers crossed we all feeling better soon.

Haveyoutried · 21/09/2023 22:06

Me too. Another one here. Long Covid is life changing and I had mild bout of covid. Never got better. X

Mine was like a mild cold. After a week I felt fine until I tried to run. I can
normally do Parkrun in 32 mins.

After covid, despite feeling fine, I only ran 800m. Legs like lead, aching back, I just couldn't get enough air in. It felt horrible. It has taken me three months to run the whole distance in sub-35 minutes.

Completely with you on that, it's horrible

Has anyone had the cough only start once they're feeling better? Or am I going to go downhill again?

We are all positive, we thought it was a sickness bug at first as mostly gastro symptoms then full body aches, feeling weak and shaky and headaches kicked in. I feel better today, I'm eating and keeping it down and I don't feel like I've been hit by a truck anymore but my throat has started hurting a bit and I've started coughing a bit? Seems weird when I'm beginning to feel better. I'm preemptively salt water gargling and doing a saline nasal rinse every couple hours in hopes it doesn't get worse. We go abroad on Monday, or are supposed to Sad

Yes my cough started when I felt better, still got it 3 weeks later

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/09/2023 23:03

Dh seems to be coughing now where he wasn't before. Oh joy🙄

Yes and boosters

That’s what I thought. Thanks for replying.

Anniissa · 22/09/2023 00:10

There’s different variants about and different people have different responses. I had it last week and it was like a very mild cold with a bit of a stuffy nose and slightly tired irritated throat (was also hot and sweaty but as temps were also high twenties not sure if I had fever or just suffering in heat!). Last time I had it, it was very flu-like knocking me out for several days in bed. Have heard lots of people having it really bad this time with stomach upsets and being laid up for a week or more so feel quite lucky this time!

I think people just have different responses, I got it from Dh and have had a very different experience to him. A friend was very sick when the rest of her family weren't.

I'm a bit less headachey now which is a relief. Honestly I have different symptoms by the bloody hour 🙄

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor unfortunately covid has the effect of weakening your immune system. So while you might have some short term immunity to whatever covid variant you've got now (but not necessarily any other covid variant), you're going to be more susceptible to lots of other virus, fungal and bacterial infections. That's why we've been seeing so much more strep A and hard to treat fungal infections in the last year or so.

The whole herd immunity/hybrid immunity concept has not played out in reality, and letting people 'boost' their immunity through infection just opens them up to a whole host of other problems. The idea of immunity debt caused by lockdowns is also a load of rubbish. The best thing for your immune system is to avoid viruses entirely, or get antibodies through vaccination.

Poormepoorme · 22/09/2023 05:57

The insomnia is so bad! Really struggling to sleep which is the last thing i need…
anyone got any tips that make sleeping easier with covid?

nopuppiesallowed · 22/09/2023 08:40

I'm so sorry you have LC, too. If you aren't part of an on line LC support group, do talk to your Dr about it. It's so helpful.

AlltheFs · 22/09/2023 08:46

I am 10 months since my last Covid bout, it lasted over a month and I have had long Covid ever since. Hellish.
I am so fed up with being ill. I have constant symptoms. It has really impacted my moods too, never been more sad.

School friend of mine died from it last winter, mother of two-mid 40’s and no risk factors. She died alone at home.

Most people are ok, some aren’t lucky. It is not a cold. Obviously for most it is mild and no-one should panic. But it’s no joke either.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 22/09/2023 09:11

What l don’t get is people keep getting reinfected. Then some people get long Covid. What happens when nearly everyone has long Covid? Because surely that is the most probable outcome of constant re infection?

AussieManque · 22/09/2023 09:15

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow yes we are heading towards mass disability. We already have record levels of long term sick leave in the UK. It's not sustainable. That's why we need to be cutting transmission. Sadly the government seems unwilling to do its job and promote public health, not even willing to impose mask mandates in hospitals where the most vulnerable are being exposed to infection. It's totally dystopian.

thankyouforthedayz · 22/09/2023 09:39

I have never felt so I'll. Aches, exhaustion temp through the roof, tepid sponging in the night, dull constant headache, tummy ache, nightmares, auditory hallucinations in night. I need to go to toilet, takes every ounce not to wee bed. Day 3, urge to cough but it's too much agony in ribs. Teen DS Covid + Monday, then me Weds, teen DD symptoms yesterday no tests left. This is not mild.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/09/2023 09:54

Today's new symptoms are nausea, urghhhh I feel so sick. I'm on day 4.5. Dh is now testing negative and says he feels fine just left with a residual cough. I am really strong positive.
