How is COVID presenting now?

I stopped following about covid and I'm wondering, how is it presenting now? What are peoples symptoms.

My mother was in town last week and so was I. I heard soany people with stuff and viral things and coughs. My mother has a sore throat now. She was definitely exposed to something whatever it is. Just wondering if COVID starts off as a sore throat?

How are the more long-term Covid people here feeling? Day 14 for me today and most symptoms have gone though still have a bit of vertigo - I'm
EXHAUSTED though. So tired.

DH has also started feeling a bit off today. Hoping hard it's not Covid - it'd mean a long long incubation period for him if it was - fingers crossed.

I think I have covid atm but I haven't tested as I wfh and am not having any indoors contact with anyone outside the household.
My symptoms are a cough and bad sore throat together with fatigue and mild feverishness. I am really thirsty, and as when I had covid before I have developed an endless craving for hot Ribena and similarly soothing drinks.

The overall feeling is 'like a cold but definitely more than a cold, with the feverishness being the biggest reason to believe that it is not simply a cold.

I'm 2+ weeks on and completely fine now, thank goodness.

One symptom I forgot and maybe it was just a coincidence but I had sore fingertips, a bit purple, and a strange blister on my thumb... almost like I'd lightly burnt my fingertips, but I hadn't.

SaltySeaCat · 04/09/2023 19:07

I’ve just tested positive today after a coughing fit at work. My eyes are sore and my head aches a bit plus a slight sore throat. I’ve just come back from a holiday in Italy so assume I caught it in the plane. As I did last year 🥶. Hoping it will stay mild….

Patsyanna · 04/09/2023 21:55

I'm at about 12 days now I think, must have had it a few days before testing positive. I've been so poorly with lots of the symptoms. Been feeling very weak and breathless. I had covid way back when it started and was pretty ill. It ended up going in to pneumonia and the same thing has happened again! I didn't think it could as I'd had the pneumonia jab last year but the GP said when you have Covid it can happen. Just hoping I'm on the right meds but must go back if not much better by Thur.

Day 15 was the day that I felt completely back to normal, albeit with a couple of ten hour sleeps needed to get there

Day 9back to the office for me. I woke again feeling odd and warm. I’m sweaty and shaky and the effort just to get myself up and dressed and ready for work has worn me out already. I WFH yesterday and really I should be doing it for another few days but I’m negative now and the rule is you go back to the office.
I just want to sleep and rest. I’d need a doctor paper to have any more time off sick though as the 7 days SC has elapsed. More bother than it’s worth.

It was three weeks for me to feel OK (not fully recovered ) again BUT as I mentioned earlier, I didn't realise I had COVID and overdid things too early.

Coolingdown · 05/09/2023 08:22

Failed attempt to return to the office. Went back in and was promptly sent home as I’m still shaky and unwell. When will this end!

Coolingdown · 05/09/2023 11:53

Been to GP, my chest is clear but my oxygen levels were dropping to 92 with each big breath, this is apparently due to inflammation from the covid. I’ve been signed off from work for a week as I’ve probably been overdoing it. I need to rest and recover as much as possible. Don’t ouch through this guys, doctor said she’s seeing many people with covid far more severe than previous bouts. She said it’s probably the Eris variant

PandaSock · 05/09/2023 11:56

Really glad you've been seen @Coolingdown. An important message for all of us to keep resting even when we're up and about again. X

Smoky1107 · 05/09/2023 13:03

I've just had Covid, day 12 I think now. I started with symptoms on holiday and ignored them and kept taking paracetamol and fluids. Tested once I got home. Felt like I was shaky some of the time, cough, sore throat and temperature on some days.
Fairly sure my daughters had it as they had very typical cold symptoms and said they felt unwell. I didn't tell them as I was positive so just shrugged it off and aside from our plane journey tried to stay away from crowds and others.
Feel much better today and wfh but back to the office tmrw

Mildredew · 06/09/2023 11:45

Day 1 (pre-test) - pm sore itchy eyes
Day 2 (pre-test) - all day sore eyes and then woke up at 2am with weird nausea that did not translate into a vomit (usually am sick quite easily as it helps), this nausea ebbed and flowed for about 24 hours
Day 3 - sore throat (getting suspicious now, but not quite joining dots)
Day 4 - sore throat and feeling coldy (tested and was positive immediately)
Day 5 - wake up with a body like playdough, bones aching all over, no energy, sore throat gone though, back ache and monster period and period pain (NOT typical for me - am 51 and is usually light), exhausted and anxious
That is last night and today. Couldn't sleep due to cramps and back/hip/leg joint pain. Only coughing at night and eyes are still kind of runny. Bit snotty - nothing major.

I tested as I work with children and young people who are compromised immune systems so I can't risk it. I have had 5 vaccines since 2020 and not had Covid before that I'm aware of. My last vaccine was in 2022 so I guess this was coming! It isn't as flattening as the flu has been for me, but it IS horrible and it seems to have really effected my period and my eyes. Bizarre.

Mildredew · 06/09/2023 11:49

OH yes forgot to mention - feet feel really hot! haha so weird. My daughter felt them and said they were hot to touch. I have my taste and smell, but no appetite, however am still eating stuff on principle - wanting liquids and fruit. Repulsed by meat :/??

Mildredew · 06/09/2023 11:50

PS my dughter has also tested positive - she doesn;t feel too bad (this is her second time having Covid and last time she lost taste/smell for 6 months) she has bunged up ears, temperature and fatigue. Get well soon everyone!!!

Chiaseedling · 06/09/2023 19:33

Came on here to ask as DD has got upper respiratory symptoms which I’d say not 100% like a normal cold, but she doesn’t feel that ill. Has bunged ears, snotty (blowing nose) but not sneezing, post-nasal drip Ie, clearing throat all the time. Not really a sore throat. She’s just got over mono too…
Found an old test so will see…
It does seem to be ramping up again

Chiaseedling · 06/09/2023 23:25

Updated to say that it is covid!!! 🤦‍♀️
DS better not get it as he’s due to start uni weekend after next. DD goes too but at least it’ll be over for her.

CherryBlossom38 · 06/09/2023 23:37

Currently feeling totally rubbish and stumbled across this thread so thought I'd join in! My symptoms are...

Felt exhausted and headachey on sunday, followed by a sore throat. Tuesday woke up with a runny nose, sore throat, headache...thought it's just a typical cold. Woke up at 5am this morning with the dreaded fever I remember all too well!! Spent today on the couch watching movies and switching between the fan and a blanket with fever/chills. Unfortunately don't have any tests to confirm, DP is away with work and I can barely get up (and wouldn't want to go out and pass on whatever this is anyway). Feels very like covid though!

Supposed to be going away on Sunday so desperately hoping to be better by then - going to ask family to drop in a couple of tests in the next few days to check if it's covid and if its gone by Sunday. I know there's no rules now but would feel awful passing it on to someone immunocompromised.

Could I ask how long its taking other people to feel better??? This day 3 or 4 for me I think (of covid or whatever virus this is), and today is the worst so far...praying I'll feel better tomorrow 🙈

Hope everyone feels better soon x

Beaucielblues · 06/09/2023 23:51

I've had it for 4 weeks so far. Really endless cough. Blurry vision. Headaches. Fever and shivers. Insane mood swings. Sudden bouts of crying. Unbelievably vivid dreams that turn into nightmares. Utter exhaustion. Aches in arm and neck. Apart from that I feel just fine!! Get well soon fellow sufferers.

Coolingdown · 07/09/2023 06:57

Day 11 here, slightly improved but still everything tastes of salt and my sense of smell Is gone.
Headache on waking and during the day sudden and crashing fatigue. Tight chest, cough and rib / arm / neck pains.
Blurred vision and dizziness still present on and off throughout the day. This will happen just before I realise I need a sleep. Im honestly going to be worried about catching this again going forward

K73c · 08/09/2023 15:20

I had covid from 19th Aug, negative on day 7 but 3-4 wks since covid started and I am still extremely fatigue.. If I do half a day of stuff (out and about/errands/appointments - don't work as other health problems) I am totally wiped out the rest of the day and the day after. I have had to do some appointments online as no energy to get myself to places. Have to save energy meeting my kids needs. Just want to feel better. Only had covid once before - Nov last year and I was positive for longer but didn't have this prolonged fatigue then. How many weeks before it's classed long covid ??

LifeinadreamChateau · 08/09/2023 15:50

K73c I’m two weeks post positive test/start of feeling unwell. I’m worried about the fatigue too, I’m just so bloody tired. Like walking through treacle.

Good news is my chest/breathless has gone and feel normal apart from tiredness.

Coolingdown · 08/09/2023 18:05

12 days here. I still feel shaky and fatigued and have a very fuzzy / odd head, like I’m under water. I feel like I’ve inhaled swimming pool water, burning chest and nose.
Im breathless and very tired all the time. I was signed off from work last week but am hoping I make a further recovery by Monday or I’ll really struggle.

CherryBlossom38 · 08/09/2023 18:41

Sorry to hear you are so poorly, hope you recover soon and feel much better x
