How is COVID presenting now?

I stopped following about covid and I'm wondering, how is it presenting now? What are peoples symptoms.

My mother was in town last week and so was I. I heard soany people with stuff and viral things and coughs. My mother has a sore throat now. She was definitely exposed to something whatever it is. Just wondering if COVID starts off as a sore throat?

Yes I had palpitations and a rushing, lightheaded feeling wash over if I moved too quickly.
This was nothing like a cold at all, I felt absolutely dreadful, tired yet wired. The nausea and dizziness was terrible. It’s not like a flu or cold, it’s hard to describe, it felt like I’d been chemically poisoned.
Day 5 today and I now feel like I’ve turned the corner. Thank god.

Thanks, that's reassuring. I made it as far as the garden but felt very breathless. I agree it's not like a cold.

Patsyanna · 01/09/2023 17:56

This is about day 10 for me , first few days though it was just a cough and cold. Then did a test which was positive and has been every day since Tue. In fact this morning the test line went red before all the fluid had gone up the thing. Apparently that shows a heavy viral load so I don't know if that affects how quickly I recover. Still feel dreadful. Very tired but difficulty sleeping. Breathless, coughing a lot of the time.Horribly nauseous, don't want to eat but trying.Havent suffered badly with headaches like many and muscle aches not to bad.

HangingOver · 01/09/2023 19:49

Mine did that this morning @Patsyanna it lit up immediately, long before to control line.

I just pushed a double mattress up some stairs on my own and feel incredibly odd now. Heart pounding and dripping sweat.

Now my wife has covid, she has bad bone and muscle pain, esp, her knees, she suffers quite badly with arthritis, in her hands and knees etc, so it's covid finding those weaknesses again. My wife reported constant peeing, like every hour over night (nocturia), which is a new one for her, but her long standing overactive bladder (OAB) has also got worse - covid doesn't miss a trick. She is also running a high fever - not unexpected tbf.

For the Dr. John Campbell fanboys and fangirls elsewhere who say I was suffering a cold: well, a lot of the symptoms (I havent mentioned nowhere near all of the well troublesome symptoms) have little or nothing to do with the common cold, so fcuk off.

DH and I and our two 5 month old twins currently have Covid. My poor babies have had a fever/chills, cough and been generally absolutely miserable. DS1 was the first to fall ill and the rest of us followed a couple of days later. He was so unwell and feverish we ended up at the out of hours doctor in the middle of the night as we had no idea what it was. DH and I feel awful with shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle aches, joint pain and sore throat. I've had covid 3 times and this feels the worst by far. If anyone has any tips for how on earth to recover super quickly please send them my way!

Lovemusic82 · 02/09/2023 08:50

I’m just removing from covid (now have possibly chest infection).
I started with a tickly cough, which turned into an almost continuous dry cough, very snotty bunked up nose, high temp, lack of taste and smell and body aches. I have been covid free (negative) for a week now but still really tired. This strain has been the worst I have had, I have had covid 4 times now, once with no symptoms.

Polkadotfleece · 02/09/2023 10:43

Got migraine today. Went to bed &.30 last night as feeling exhausted. Woke up with crushing head pain. Anyone else had this? Have taken meds

PandaSock · 02/09/2023 10:47

@truetotal You have my sympathies! I have 8 year old twins and can really remember how hard it is to be poorly with really little twins.

I won't tell you that rest seems to be the key here because I know that won't be possible for you, but do try to keep drinking water. I rested a lot and drank lots of water and I think that really helped.

Take care. X

I’ve gone backwards again today, day 6. Feel woozy and hot again, so congested and strange. When will I start to feel better? I’ve already missed 3 days of work 🫣 I was hoping to go back on Monday

LifeinadreamChateau · 02/09/2023 19:50

@Coolingdown i had lapses on day 5,6 but felt better on day 8.

I’m on day 9 and said to dh that today is the first day I don’t feel unwell but just v tired. Having said that, my neighbour was talking to me today at a distance in the drive and I felt so faint I had to go inside and lie down for an hour!

Forgot about the joint pain. That was quite short lived for me. Such a weird illness and not just a cold.

Coolingdown · 02/09/2023 20:16

I’m worried about working on Monday. I don’t think I’ll feel up to it unless I make a huge leap in recovery but I’ve already been off since Tuesday. I do get paid but the feeling around covid is that it’s a mild Illness and I’m sure there’ll be a few raised eyebrows if I say I’m still off!

Celia24 · 02/09/2023 21:25

@Coolingdown that's only the feeling to those who haven't lost someone from it or being touched by someone who has. It isn't mild.

I feel the same though, my manager talks about how it was like a cold for him as though that's how it is for everyone. It's a serious illness.

I'm on day 5 and this is the first day I've felt a lot better. Still shattered and low energy though.

WeWereInParis · 02/09/2023 21:36

What sort of incubation periods have you had in your houses?

We've had a weird bug in our house, I'm not even sure if it's the same bug or 2/3 different ones.

About 12 days ago DH had diarrhoea and was sick, he felt weak and shaky but it only lasted 23 hours.

Last weekend (so starting 5 days after DH was ill) I had two days in bed feeling exhausted, a bit sick, a bit dizzy but mainly just absolutely exhausted and weak, then on Monday those symptoms were pretty much gone but I had bad tummy pain, nausea, and a bout of diarrhoea.

And tonight, DD2 (16 months) has just thrown up twice. She's a bit snotty with a very mild cold but otherwise has seemed fine. Maybe slightly off her food.

Too long apart to be covid? I'm starting to worry there's something in our house giving us dodgy tummies as it doesn't seem close enough together to be one stomach bug, but we can't all have caught different things, that seems incredibly unlikely!

Coolingdown · 02/09/2023 21:57

Our incubation periods were short - 24-48 hours max as DH came down with Symptoms on a Sunday and myself and DD were only a day later. The only place we’d been all together previously was the Friday and the Saturday (we’d all been away for a weekend together)

This was me almost to the day and o felt faint too

Coolingdown · 03/09/2023 08:19

I’ve woken feeling no better today, still hot and woozy and unwell. Day 7, I’m not sure if I’ve developed some sort of secondary infection (sinus or chest) I have that ‘sick’ feeling that I recognise from previous chest infections. Getting a GP appointment will be nigh on impossible though, it’s hard enough at the best of times but surely they won’t want you to come to the surgery if you have covid? How do they manage that?

truetotal · 03/09/2023 10:20

@PandaSock thank you, you are right rest isn't an option 😅 but water and fluids I can do!

HangingOver · 03/09/2023 19:28

I've got myself a little laptop bed tray thing so I can attempt to do some work tomorrow. I'm a bit alarmed by the fact that the line on the test has almost gone but I don't feel any better at all 🙁

Rolypops · 03/09/2023 20:07

How many of you have had a lot of mucous on your chest this time round? I caught what I assume is Covid in town last week and have been coughing my guts up since Monday. I had to shield during lockdown and this will be what I think is my third bout (if this is Covid). I am on day 6 and feel a lot better than earlier in the week but I still feel like there is a load of crap on my chest that I just can't get up, today is the worst for it. I don't know when to worry. Feel very anxious its going to get worse.

Thelonelygiraffe · 03/09/2023 20:30

Sore throat then cold symptoms in my 80yo parents. They were fine.

smokingcarriageonly · 03/09/2023 23:40

Anyone else have eye symptoms? Last night I was hit suddenly with a very sore throat and one itchy red eye, then fever, sore joints, tinnitus and dry cough.
Eye still itchy with a red swollen lump but not sore like a stye, more like an itchy blister on the edge of the top lid.
Sore throat suddenly vanished between 8 and 11 this morning.

I felt like shite yesterday, sore throat, coughing. I did have sore eyes and joints and tinnitus but I get them a lot due to other conditions. Throat better today but earache now.

LucyHaney · 04/09/2023 15:14

Just thought I’d contribute after being a long time lurker!

im currently positive for Covid - currently day 4 and feel horrid (I’ve had it twice previously and been absolutely fine!)

this new variant seems to have hit me differently
headache 24/7
chesty cough - coughing up mucus (this never happened to me in previous infections)
high temperature
Ear ache
struggling to sleep
aches and pains all over.

my red line is still very prominent on the tests so I think I’m here for the long haul!

Coolingdown · 04/09/2023 16:16

I’ve suddenly shaken off most of the symptoms and feel much better. Testing negative too which is great. I’m still a bit tickly throated and tired but absolutely nothing as bad as I was. You have to be patient with this one and accept you’re probably going to be for for nothing for a good week, even a bit longer.

Hope everyone feels much better soon!
