Anyone unvaccinated had it more than once?

Won't constitute a peer reviewed study I know but still interesting anecdotally. Would also help to know how likely you were to test so let's use a scale of 0 to 10, 0 never, 10 twice a day, 5 when had symptoms. I'll kick off. Never had Covid, 0 until early 2022 (only sick once but couldn't risk a 2 week quarantine, judge away, didn't do anything except distanced school runs as I felt pretty grim) and 5 from end of mandatory quarantine.

Everyone I know who was unvaccinated only had it once.

How can you be sure you’ve never had Covid if you never tested even when you were feeling sick?

ProperTease · 08/07/2023 08:34

Everyone I know who is unvaccinated has had it more than once (that's only maybe 7 people, so not scientific!). I live in a country where for a time, testing at a pharmacy was mandatory for many workers at set times throughout the year. So lots of people found they had it with few/no symptoms.

Sheknowsnow · 08/07/2023 08:41

I'm unvaccinated, never had it, or at least never had it symptomatically (had to test regularly for work). Not even had a cold since the pandemic.
My unvaccinated friend has had it once. I only know 1 or 2 other people who've never had it, not sure of their vaccine status. Everyone else I know is vaccinated, all have had it at least once.

Mapples · 08/07/2023 08:44

Anecdotally the people I know who didn't get the vaccine (their choice, no judgement) didn't rest either so I suspect its hard to tell.

captncrunch · 08/07/2023 08:49

I'm unvaccinated and I've had it twice (38 years old in generally good health). First time I would say I felt I'll, had a day in bed with a headache and was snotty for a week or so. Was like a bad cold. Second time I tested positive because I had a headache and wanted to check before visiting a relative. We had lots of people off with it at work so I suspected. I wasn't unwell with it at all aside from that mild headache on the first day, no other symptoms. My unvaccinated husband didn't catch it either time and has still never had it.

Missed the bit about testing, I will add that I tested regularly throughout height of covid (2x week)

prayforthecottransfer · 08/07/2023 08:54

I am triple vaxxed and have had it 3 times since my first vaccination.

4 adult family members of mine have not been vaccinated and had to test for work at least twice per week. None of them ever contracted covid, even when they were exposed to it from myself, husband, mum and sister.

OMGitsnotgood · 08/07/2023 08:59

Everyone I know who was unvaccinated only had it once.

Unless they were testing twice a week, every week, they/you can't possibly know they've only had it once.

Aishah231 · 08/07/2023 09:13

Unvaccinated here. Would be happy to be part of a study - why on earth isn't the government doing any?

Must have had covid once as I had an antibody test. I remember feeling a little under the weather before we all knew about COVID - not enough to stay off work. Never had it since. Until this year had to test twice a week.

OprahWinfery · 08/07/2023 09:22

I had covid at the beginning before vaccines and lockdowns or masks were introduced, none of my family had it, and they were close - and they have never had it. I got two jabs not booster, but never had it again. (I wouldn’t have got the jabs it was work pressure..)

I was tested for covid antibody experiment to show if I had had covid and showed the positive line. I knew it was covid back then because I had never felt so shit in my life but it was also not as bad as others had the symptoms tbh. Moderate.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 08/07/2023 09:31

I have had 5 vaccinations. Took part in a covid vaccine trial and have never had covid, despite my daughter and husband both having it twice. I test still when I feel ill, and so do my family. I have had antibody testing and that backs up that I have never had it.

Berlinlover · 08/07/2023 09:38

I work with several unvaccinated people who have never had Covid.

Muhwanda · 08/07/2023 09:40

My manager at work is unvaccinated and had it 4 times, every instance has hit him super hard too.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 08/07/2023 09:42

You must live rurally?

We lost 3 unvaccinated family members to Covid and all of my unvaccinated colleagues have had Covid several times, the last round was quite bad for both vax and unvaxxed.

PineappleRumble · 08/07/2023 09:47

Unvaccinated and have had it 3 times, all very mild. I did test regularly because I care for someone vulnerable.

No one in our house is vaccinated (5 people) and they have all had it twice. I'm the only one who was affected the third time!

I had shingles in 2018 way before covid. I was for and healthy and caught it. No link to the covid jab then. I lost a good friend to a heart attack in his 40s way before covid.

Your examples are just people getting ill like they have for generations. You cannot link them to the covid jab at all.

HuckingFellHire · 08/07/2023 09:57

Unvaccinated, once in February last year tested negative within four days. Had worse hangovers.

BeverlyHa · 08/07/2023 09:58

Nope, not vaccinated, did not take any amazing amount of precautions, had it just once in a very mild form and on top of that am considered vulnerable because have history of pulmonary troubles

JohnPrescottsPyjamas · 08/07/2023 10:01

Vaxxed twice here too - no booster. Only caved in to pressure because of potential vaccine passports, otherwise I wouldn’t have got it done.

Caught Covid before my first vaccine. Just felt a bit meh for a day with a wet nose, but still able to function. Felt far worse with an ordinary head cold. Caught covid a second time after 2 vaccines - felt exactly the same, no better no worse. Felt dreadful after vaccine itself; Shivery, sweating, splitting headache, no energy for around 3 days. Also made me experience nasty PMS symptoms post menopause, followed by unexpected bleeding, so not a positive experience.

it’s seems more and more to me that irrespective of vaccine status, some people just seem to react differently to covid than others. When I hear someone say, “I was really ill, but would have been so much worse if I hadn’t had the vax” I want to ask them how they know that for sure when there’s plenty of unvaccinated unaffected and who don’t seem to be any more vulnerable to a bad bout either.

I don’t expect any scientific study will be done into these results though as the conclusions might not be what the government wants to hear.

TappingTed · 08/07/2023 10:02

Tested regularly as work in hospital and was also part of the national study testing every month from late 2020 on to mid 2022. In unvaccinated and had it once in 2020 (mild and could have worked through it) and again in March 2023 (very fatigued, unwell for 72 hours but floored for weeks)
I didn’t get it 2022 when husband and kids had it, and was testing daily as was the protocol for those of us HCP at the time, and my ward was closed with covid too several times and I didnt get it then… but the 2023 strain got me after a single shift in a covid ward.

TappingTed · 08/07/2023 10:03

*im unvaccinated. Not in

I also had 5 vaccines as part of the trial along with my friend. Neither of us caught it until early this year for the first time. Both had it once and it was bad for both or us.
