Anyone unvaccinated had it more than once?

Won't constitute a peer reviewed study I know but still interesting anecdotally. Would also help to know how likely you were to test so let's use a scale of 0 to 10, 0 never, 10 twice a day, 5 when had symptoms. I'll kick off. Never had Covid, 0 until early 2022 (only sick once but couldn't risk a 2 week quarantine, judge away, didn't do anything except distanced school runs as I felt pretty grim) and 5 from end of mandatory quarantine.

Everyone I know who was unvaccinated only had it once.

Constantly testing for illnesses when you don't feel unwell used to be a diagnosable mental condition pre 2020.

The last time I was significantly impacted by a respiratory illness was 2010. Didn't test then, either. Just stayed at home until I recovered.

OK, but not sure how that's relevant to me

Did another poster suggest it?

You haven't answered how anyone who has never tested knows they haven't had coivd

sunglassesonthetable · 08/07/2023 19:00

In fairness I say " I've never had Covid" because I've never had symptoms or had it asymptomatically when I've tested.
🤷‍♀️What else should I say?

Exactly but apparently on this thread there are people who somehow know theyve never had COVID despite never testing but don't appear to be able to explain how that works

CourtneyB123 · 08/07/2023 19:04

I'm unvaccinated, apparently had it as tested for it at work by PHE and had track and trace at the door. That's the only time I know of, partner also unvaccinated and in respect of testing to know, he's never had it. When I had it apparently that one time I wasn't unwell, and the rest of the family weren't positive either for the whole duration so who knows

Eloweeese · 08/07/2023 19:15

I have two unvaccinated friends who have had it twice and one who had it once and died of it

FrazzledMCPremenopausalWoman · 08/07/2023 19:17

Unvaccinated here, had it three times.

jadey1991 · 08/07/2023 19:23

I'm not vaccinated and have had covid twice.. tested positive 2 days after falling ill

Purely out of interest, it’s also estimated that between 50 - 75% of those infected with the flu virus are also asymptomatic too and flu is also a major killer, especially of the elderly and immocompromised, but we’ve never insisted that everyone repeatedly tests for it and/or isolates - especially if they’re completely fit and well.

The infectiousness of covid was deliberately overstated to ensure compliance, including intentionally making people fearful of asymptomatic cases. Hancock admitted all of this in his WhatsApp messages, but still people believe and hang on to the propaganda that pushed at the time. Pre vax, several members of my family worked in occupations where they were frequently exposed and didn’t succumb until Omicron arrived and even then, the symptoms were very mild.

There's been a vaccination programme for flu for many many years now for the vulnerable, sadly of course it doesn't prevent all deaths (which in the elderly are usually combined with other things), but I don't think it's crazy that the approach to a known illness that we have vaccines for and know how to best treat is different to one that was brand new with a lot of unknowns. People didn't know how infectious it was until a fair bit down the line, sure our gov said they didn't want to backtrack which was wrong, but this wasn't at the start was it.

Mapples · 08/07/2023 20:40

To add, now covid vaccines seem to be just for the vulnerable and the approach similar to flu ie no testing, so I'd probably compare more how things are now than when covid was a novel virus.

Thanks - that’s actually a very good point.

Had it twice (tested positive twice). Unvaccinated. Once pregnant, once after. Both times very mild symptoms - mainly runny nose. Milder than a cold for me.

LT2 · 08/07/2023 21:08

Also to add - 5. I only ever tested when had symptoms of cold.

MinimalistMe · 08/07/2023 21:11

I am unvaccinated, so is my husband. I was pregnant during lockdown. Never had it that we know of. My mum is also unvaccinated and never had it (works in NHS, worked all throughout lockdown).

CrunchyCarrot · 09/07/2023 00:07

I have had Covid twice, I'm unvaccinated. I had it asymptomatically in July 2020 (found out a few months later as I had antibodies to spike protein). My DP had it at the time, I thought I had missed catching it, but clearly not!

My second and symptomatic infection was Sept 2022, was sick for a week with it, LFT very strongly positive. Since I am housebound I didn't test for infections unless I had actual symptoms. Second bout was caught from DP (again!).

CrunchyCarrot · 09/07/2023 00:15

I can 100% confirm that every single one of them will say that sadly their Vax loved ones are developing more and more unusual symptoms, illnesses, heart and cancer issues…

Unfortunately as one ages heart and cancer issues are very common. Also new chronic illnesses. Since the majority of people have been vaccinated, it's easy to say 'oh look at all those vaxxed people getting various illnesses' - illnesses they were going to get anyway! Plus actually having Covid is a health risk, too.

Painte · 09/07/2023 00:20

When I hear someone say, “I was really ill, but would have been so much worse if I hadn’t had the vax” I want to ask them how they know that for sure

They know that for sure due to the results of the clinical trials.

Helena189 · 09/07/2023 00:43

I'm vaccinated and had it twice, my DH is vaccinatedal and had it once , our children however are not vaccinated and 2 have had it twice and the other just the once, I will add that we've all practically had it at different times and all have been symptomatic but we was also testing regularly for work/school and we took part in the national ons covid survey.

BonnyLassie99 · 09/07/2023 01:02

I am unvaccinated and I’ve never had covid, that I know of, but then I was also in company with people that were in the vulnerable group (respiratory issues) and they never got covid from being around me, do you think some people were just very lucky not to get it?

dreamonlucid · 09/07/2023 01:06

Unvaccinated 48 and I've had it maybe 6 times tested positive 4 and the last two have felt very familiar, but not tested.

I honestly think it's just the luck of the draw, I'm also out and travel lots for work, pretty active and go to gyms, pubs social events etc.. so my chances of picking it up are higher than someone in a smaller social circle.

Newbeginnings90 · 09/07/2023 01:12

Unvaxxed but not an antivaxxer generally. Just felt with covid it was all initially quite rushed so held off and never felt compelled to have it done after that.

Had it once, similar to bad flu.

Son unvaxxed also had it once but not at the same time, no symptoms.

Partner unvaxxed had it once, took it quite hard but nothing sinister.

LordSalem · 09/07/2023 02:34

Fully vaxxed, never had it. Tested multiple times. Would that skew your results?

Ihatethis1 · 09/07/2023 02:45

(28 healthy female) I had it twice first time was like flu, second time was like flu with a super bad cough but a month later the cough hadn't gone away and it was crippling me. Went to hospital and I had pulmonary embolisms.

My partner (29) got COVID around the same time as me but symptoms weren't as severe for him.

2 kids (7+4) got COVID the first time but not the second, one was showing no symptoms other had temp and cough.

All unvaxxed and we all tested around twice a week back then

Mukey · 10/07/2023 10:32

I've had 3 vaccines and had it once quite mildly that I know of.
Partner had 3 vaccines and had it once.
One friend is unvaccinated and has had it once moderately bad.
Another friend has had 3 vaccines and had it once mildly.
Another friend has had 3 vaccines and has never had it that they know of.
One vulnerable friend had 2 vaccines and has had it twice and barely noticed both times.
Another friend had 3 vaccines and has had it 3 times but all very mild.
Another unvaccinated friend had it once really mildly.
Friends dad had one vaccine and got it once mildly.

Basically going by all my close friends no matter if they've had 0, 1, 2 or 3 vaccines everyone seems to have had similar levels of illness. Some more times than others but that's just like who gets unlucky with more colds than others in life.
