Anyone unvaccinated had it more than once?

Won't constitute a peer reviewed study I know but still interesting anecdotally. Would also help to know how likely you were to test so let's use a scale of 0 to 10, 0 never, 10 twice a day, 5 when had symptoms. I'll kick off. Never had Covid, 0 until early 2022 (only sick once but couldn't risk a 2 week quarantine, judge away, didn't do anything except distanced school runs as I felt pretty grim) and 5 from end of mandatory quarantine.

Everyone I know who was unvaccinated only had it once.

Why make a thread instead of looking at one of the many open access studies looking at infection risk in vaccinated versus unvaccinated people? @AreYouVeryAnti

All threads like this do is become a hub for confirmation bias & conspiracy theories (I see 5G has already mentioned, as has "all my vaccinated friends are dead/dying, everyone unvaccinated had a sniffle"

If you could get could good data and results by simply make a thread on MN it would make epidemiology redundant Grin Loads of things to consider including sample, measure, adjusting for things (i.e., on average, someone who is vaccinated probably more likely to test than someone unvaccinated)

Oh puhlease, stop labelling everyone who wants to discuss their experiences of covid without vaccination as 'conspiracy theorists' 🙄 There's fanatics and extremists on both sides, as well as bad or misleading science.

Im unvaccinated and have had it 3 times. First time was just back ache, second time a headache for a day and 3rd time back ache again but carried on at work as normal and only tested because I wanted a day off to do housework. Don't know anyone who's been really unwell with covid although know quite a few young people who've had blood clots, strokes, and one 34 year old husband of a Friend who died of a heart attack, he was a football player for our home town.
I know I made the right decision not to have a vaccine.

Interesting you should say that. Sweden however did not lock down, had one of the lowest number of A&E beds per capita in Europe, yet we find out now that they also have had the lowest excess mortality in Europe between 2020-2023.

So lockdowns were not necessary it seems. Rather, lockdowns were hugely damaging in fact since countries who did lock down hard now have far higher excess mortality than Sweden. Lockdowns seem to now be killing hundreds of thousands in the EU. Not in Sweden though.

Just. Not. True. Death rates European Countries - covid upUntil jan 2023

Coronavirus death rate in Europe, by country 2023 | Statista

As of January 13, 2023, Bulgaria had the highest rate of COVID-19 deaths among its population in Europe at 548.6 deaths per 100,000 population.

Not really sure what you're hoping to find out from this thread. As we can already see there's a huge variation in how covid will affect someone and how likely someone is to catch it (vaccinated or not). Without also examining every individuals levels of contact with people, their own adherence to the rules as well as how many people around them adhered to the rules then none of this is really going to tell you anything. That's before you then factor in that unvaccinated people are probably more likely also to not have been testing regularly therefore wouldn't know whether they'd had covid or not.
There's masses of research indicating that large numbers of people died. That should be enough to say that regardless of whether it's worse than the flu or not, it's an issue.
The argument about Sweden not having lockdowns and having less excess deaths is slightly more complicated than that. They didn't have lockdowns but they did still have a lot of measures in place and actually evidence has shown that people followed those rules far more rigidly just due to societal norms. The evidence also suggests that although they may have had less excess deaths, their elderly population was disproportionately impacted. So it's not quite as straight forward as it sounds.
Having worked alongside several people who worked on the covid wards that people claimed were empty during the height of the pandemic, all I can say is that vaccinated or not I'm extremely grateful that I didn't end up in that situation when I had covid. It's the luck of the draw for most of us.
Also in relation to increased heart attacks, strokes etc in relation to the vaccine. Covid was recognised pretty early on as causing cardiovascular issues. So I'm not entirely sure why people are continuing to blame the vaccine for issues that could well be related to covid. The vaccines were never designed to stop you from getting covid, just like the flu vaccine they were designed to hopefully prevent it from becoming serious if you did.

I work in a bank call centre in Derby in our unit we have 46 staff , 5 are none vaccinated , out of those 5 , one has tested positive , her symptoms lasted 24 hours and resembled hayfever , the rest of us , me included are testing positive every 3 months , my sisters a nurse at the Derby Royal refused point blank , now I regret calling her a conspiracy looney

MissTurkishDelight · 12/08/2023 12:06

I was told the vaccine WOULD stop the transmission and .protect the elderly that’s why I had the vaccine to save others .

I've had 3 vaccines and I've only had it once very mildly over 2 years ago now. My partner the same. One unvaccinated friend of mine had it quite badly and it lasted a few weeks which was 2.5 years ago. I don't regret having had the vaccines as such but I won't bother having any more now. Some people will my anecdote proves vaccines work. I don't agree. I don't think it's my friends fault she got it badly through not getting vaccinated. I'm pretty sure it's all just luck. Everyone seems to have an anecdote about someone having had 5 vaccines and dying or a non vaccinated never having had it. But in the grand scheme of things it seems to be pretty much luck how badly you get it. So yeah I'm unlikely to have any more vaccines now. Because whether I do or not I've no idea how the next bout will hit me.

OceanicBoundlessness · 12/08/2023 13:28

Mukey, I agree. It's impossible to draw any conclusions from comparing experiences because there are so many variables involved in each individual's level of health and susceptibility that it really does seem like luck.

We all thought that. There's been a lot of backtracking and "That was never the intention" going on.
