AIBU to wonder if WFH will return due to Kraken?

Hello :)

Although there is the encouragement of wearing masks again. Currently in this season we have flu, strep A, various viruses and now, Kraken Covid...

Am I being unreasonable to think that those, like me who were shielding will need to WFH rather than be hybrid? or do you think that Hybrid will continue?

TIA

Kraken?

Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to give a bloody COVID strain the same name as a mythical sea beast that dragged ships to the bottom of the ocean and drowning sailors? 🙄

Hey, we've got a new one. Guess what would be a funny name...

I was referring to the difficulties posed by the pandemic and economic effect.

But yes, i enjoy wfh also. However, i know people who enjoyed it like me and thrived and others who experienced low mood.

Biscuit

You literally replied that to the single-lined comment ‘not everyone can WFH’.

I have replied to several comments. I have not disagreed but simply replied to you ..

Fuck no. If your not well and can wfh then do that until your better. This will at least reduce it being spread

I do not want to see covid measures back.

The biscuit emoji is something you usually reply to someone you think is trolling or goading. Hence my interpretation of your reply to my comment.

😂 it does look like a flower. This is the one people use to denote flowers Flowers

The minefield of Mumsnet customs!

Not everyone can WFH.

The OP didn’t imply everyone could, and besides it’s just common sense that not everyone can.

I never understand why this reply is always posted on threads like this - it’s just stating the obvious

I agree- when i first heard i thought of the monster Kraken from europe who comes at christmas lol

The monster who accompanies St Nicholas on Dec. 6th is Krampus, not Kraken. 'Krake' (no n) is archaic German for 'octopus', but the only place where I've heard 'Kraken' is Pirates of the Caribbean. Who'd name a virus after a film monster?

Way to miss the point I know....

milkyaqua · 05/01/2023 23:55

Kraken is certainly more catchy than XBB.1.5 - which is currenly surging madly in the US and other places.

I think the bloke who came up with the moniker is right, everyone just assumes a sublineage of Omicron is just old Omicron, but this XBB.1.5 has now been declared the most transmissible Omicron variant yet.

Kokeshi123 · 06/01/2023 04:00

but this XBB.1.5 has now been declared the most transmissible Omicron variant yet.

Well, the last one was about as infectious as measles, previously considered to be the most infectious disease ever. So if this one is even more infectious, not sure there's actually any bloody point in trying not to catch it?

I've had my vaccines and am busily pencilling in a full round of social events for the rest of January. Enjoy hiding under the bedclothes!

milkyaqua · 06/01/2023 05:14

I find it odd that any attempt to discuss what is actually occurring regarding Covid, on the Covid forum, is ridiculed.

I also find it odd to see the same old names still posting in these threads, despite professing to have no interest in the topic.

Worldgonecrazy · 06/01/2023 07:43

“….the most transmissible variant….since the last most transmissible ….”

it’s like the headline writer from the Daily Express has found a new job. The same one responsible for the ‘coldest winter in decades is coming’ headline they run every September/October.

milkyaqua · 06/01/2023 07:51

It's a "recombinant subvariant". It is more transmissible, apparently. And it is immune-evasive. So that's not good.

Again, why do people with no interest in facts or science or health post in the Covid forums, merely to mock what they don't understand?

SilverGlitterBaubles · 06/01/2023 08:02

I really don't think it will be mandated by the government due to the economic situation and the difficulty employers have had getting people back into the workplace. These decisions are best left up to employers and employees to work out for themselves.

WaddleAway · 06/01/2023 08:08

I’ve had 3 vaccinations and had covid 3 times. Honestly, if vaccinations don’t reduce transmission and it’s so contagious already, there’s not really much else I’m willing to do to stop catching it. If the new variant is more contagious than the already extremely contagious omicron, then I’m sure whatever I do I’ll be catching it again over the next month or so.

ifonly4 · 06/01/2023 08:44

I think the worst that could happen is mask wearing, ventilation, trying to distance in queues, WFH if staff are equally productive and asking people to avoid mixing if they have any kind of respiratory illness. We've all had the chance of a vaccine (aware under 50s haven't one so recently though) and it's trying to live with it - unfortunately not easy if you're one of the ones it makes really ill.

SirMingeALot · 06/01/2023 09:17

It's probably not a massive percentage of the population who are employed in jobs that could be done remotely but currently aren't. I wonder how much difference it would actually make with a variant so incredibly transmissible.

To be honest, I rarely look or post here now.

Sorry if I come across as a bit flippant, but you need to understand that some of us had our careers, businesses, kids’ education or mental health trashed by restrictions. We tend to respond in a prickly way to anything that sounds even vaguely like bringing restrictions back.

Greatly · 06/01/2023 10:26

I must say I'm due for a booster next month - had the first three - caught Covid beginning of November - now thinking I won't bother with booster.
