AIBU to wonder if WFH will return due to Kraken?

Hello :)

Although there is the encouragement of wearing masks again. Currently in this season we have flu, strep A, various viruses and now, Kraken Covid...

Am I being unreasonable to think that those, like me who were shielding will need to WFH rather than be hybrid? or do you think that Hybrid will continue?

TIA

Does Kraken show on lateral flows?

Yes, instead of the second line it shows a little octopus.

Proudofitbabe · 05/01/2023 16:51

But to go from it being recommended to wear masks and keep your distance to nothing

It's the opposite - we went FROM "nothing", to strict lockdowns and forced tanking of the economy, for a relatively mild illness for which there is now an effective vaccine. I don't want to see masks and distancing normalized every time we have a harsh winter.

It’s ok. Godzilla Covid will defeat it.

I thought this was going to be about drinking rum when WFH 😂

I also thought they were cracking open the rum whilst WFH 🤣

Op not everybody can work from home what do you suggest for those people?

I know schools will never be closed again but I do wonder whether unis might go online again if things get out of control. The silence from the government is really shocking considering the state of the hospitals at the moment.

The state of the hospitals is due to no beds -as no discharges- as no care at home/ no care home beds available so is a bottle neck.

Rolypops · 05/01/2023 16:57

I have just seen Devi Sridhar tweet a story from France that 1 in 3 arrivals from China have tested positive after arriving in France, crazy.

To answer your question I think guidance might be to WFH if able, if vulnerable and/or ill. I hope that's as far as it goes.

Yes, I could see there being some caveated guidance. WFH if you can, we encourage employers to allow it after a positive test etc. That sort of thing. But any attempt at a restriction post Partygate is something the Tories have a very strong incentive to avoid.

Kracken covid sounds like the name of a virus in the movies, very twelve monkeys.

Couldnt give a shit about Kraken Covid, Godzilla Covid, or Loch Ness Monster Covid. Virus gonna virus.

Fingers crossed for Loch Ness monster covid, that one made me lol!

Proudofitbabe · 05/01/2023 16:05

I honestly couldn't give a fuck about "kraken" covid.

Same here.

Shnowfairy · 05/01/2023 17:26

Wildflower07 · 05/01/2023 15:44

I agree- when i first heard i thought of the monster Kraken from europe who comes at christmas lol

This did made me laugh😂 Similar myth though!

Have you ever watched pirates of the Caribbean? The Kraken is the big Octopus monster that destroys the ships in that, Davy Jones’ pet.

Bubbylana · 05/01/2023 17:27

Hoppinggreen my DB says the same.

Apart from a few students or staff who may be clinically vulnerable, the university community is not the demographic that's likely to end up in hospital with covid

Wildflower07 · 05/01/2023 17:30

@Mrsjayy

I am not sure for those who cannot work from home. I cannot remember last time, but those who were clinically vulnerable in front line jobs, were they sent home on sick or holiday pay?

Furthermore, many councils have organisations have sold off buildings due to wfh and introduced hotdesking/hybrid.

Very disappointed that this is not about drinking rum whilst WFH. Tho I will say, whilst potentially morally questionable, how would they know?? 🐙

RumNotRun · 05/01/2023 15:28

Do we get free rum or do we have to pay for it? 🤔 Ooh, we could be like sailors and get a half pint each morning.

I’ll go along with that 😝

BeyondReleaseTheKraken · 05/01/2023 17:38

I had the flu before Xmas, but - touch wood - despite everyone around me being ill (and I'm CEV too) I'm okay atm.

I'm guessing it's the high rum content of my blood 😁

NotAnotherBathBomb · 05/01/2023 17:38

I agree. The past two years have been difficult for majority havent they.

No, because not everyone finds not working from home 'difficult'

Lol, apologies!

However is rum not very strong? How much can you have without being tipsy

I don't think kraken is very strong, I could be wrong. Maybe save it for an afternoon where there are no scheduled video call appearances 🤭

CrunchyCarrot · 05/01/2023 19:02

I think we should go Marvel characters Covid, so Loki Covid can play tricks on all the other variants!

I was referring to the difficulties posed by the pandemic and economic effect.

But yes, i enjoy wfh also. However, i know people who enjoyed it like me and thrived and others who experienced low mood.
