This is not a mild cold!

I'm positive for the first time after three vaccinations and I feel awful! Has anyone else avoided it for so long and been properly wiped out?

I have a bad cold, scratchy sore throat, slight cough, massive headache, dizziness and I ache everywhere. But most of all I'm just exhausted. I tested positive immediately on Wednesday and the line is getting stronger and I feel worse each day

@SortingOffice

Unfit or weak? Quite possibly, because I have been caring for a family member with terminal cancer so I do tend to be a little sensitive about an illness which could make them seriously unwell. My concerns about my own health are because I also worry about how I can care for them

That's my concern too. I help care for my elderly mum and have tried to avoid covid in order to protect her. Every symptom I have makes me think, would my mum cope with this, would she survive that etc.

Hippopotamousses · 11/07/2022 23:16

@Deadringer it's so worrying isn't it. Not only worrying how they they might feel if they catch it, the guilt if they do, or knowing that you can't be there for them because you don't want to pass it on.

No, it was a mild cold for me when I had it. I couldn't give a damn about getting it agin, which is only a matter of time.

Sorry.

Lucky you. My friend had it very mild the first time then got Long Covid the second. She is really struggling with day to day life. Being so blase about it seems reckless.

sydenhamhiller · 11/07/2022 23:27

My 3rd time, and have had 3 jabs.

I thought it was bad hay fever, but then on Sunday felt very tight chested, and hard to take a deep breath just like… oh, wait , maybe I should test. And SUCH a strong line. DH had a week ago and only had a faint line.

I had catarrh-y cough, streaming nose, sore throat yesterday and part of today - now it’s exhaustion and tight chest. And also blurry vision - so glad I found this thread, wondered if it was my glasses/ me going mad…

I’m a primary teacher and just so conscious my lovely HT is going to be quietly cursing me as we have no money left for supply teachers, even if we could find one… and who woll
print out and sign my reports? Meet new class nex year? Sports day? And I missed my own child’s end of year drama showcase where she played Annie.

Hope fellow sufferers feel better soon.

Hippopotamousses · 11/07/2022 23:32

@sydenhamhiller I thought it was hayfever too, and I have the work guilt, although not a teacher. It's better to stay home and take care of yourself though. The families won't thank you if they get sick before the holidays. Take care of yourself, I'm sure your colleagues will understand

Tested positive for the first time yesterday (fully vaccinated). No temperature but aching, snotty and tight chest. 2 nose bleeds and woke up having a really heavy period. Slept really badly so got up at 5am.

IdiotCreatures · 12/07/2022 07:34

Sorry for moaning but I am so fed up it's day 10 for me and I still feel shitty. Had vertigo before this came on and it's now worse and is giving me nausea, never had nausea with the vertigo before.
My period was also about six days early as well. Finished now but what kind of virus brings on menses?
Also my little darling fluff ball brought in a dead mouse this morning luckily DD isn't feeling as bad as me and disposed of it but now DCat has started sneezing too.
Just having a moan, the stabbing pain in the eye hasn't reoccurred so that's a positive.

eleanorwish · 12/07/2022 07:58

Day 13 for me and I'm still not back to normal. Still a bit snotty, sense of smell and taste still not back completely, although they are improving slowly.
It's the fatigue that's doing me in, I feel absolutely knackered after doing a bit of washing up, and dizzy too.

It has been a mild cold for me twice now (unvaccinated). My younger DH (fully vaccinated) has had it for the first time and symptoms are much worse - flu like symptoms. Whether or not people agree with me, it has made me wonder if I ever want the vaccines (there is a reason why I haven't had them yet but was always planning to eventually..) everyone I know is vaccinated and has suffered more than me. I thought the first time maybe I was just lucky but now second time round..

@LT2 that's fighting Talk on here 😂
Seriously I would love to know why some get it bad and others don't. We've all had it here and all only been mildly unwell as in none of us even considered going to hospital. Some had a high temp and felt unwell, some had few symptoms. Most of us are unvaccinated (inc me) but my OH is fully vaccinated and classed as extremely clinically vulnerable. He had barely any symptoms and recovered in about a week. Ditto my 80 year old dad who has just finished treatment for cancer and was asymptomatic. My mum however, also vaccinated has been really unwell.
I suspect it all comes down to genes and lifestyle re: how ill you are. Some people look (young), fit and healthy but if their genetic makeup doesn't cope with covid they will be more unwell.

gamerchick · 12/07/2022 09:41

These threads give me the heebies. Still waiting to catch it unless I've had it with no symptoms at all. It's a funny bug, no idea how it's going to affect you.

Carrotzen · 12/07/2022 09:49

I've had it twice in the last 3 months and have felt like utter shite both times!

Feverish (temp of over 40!), full body aches dizzy, streaming nose, vomiting, the runs then a dry cough that is still going on 3 months later, tight chest and exhaustion again still going on 3 months later

Definitely not a bad cold, more like flu. I am triple jabbed which seems to have done fuck all. Dp only double jabbed as had a bad reaction to his 2nd jab and had barely a sniffle. Temp for about 12 hrs and that's it. Really questioning what the fuck my immune system is doing

I had it right at the start as well, and my chest symptoms were definitely way worse then but overall I have felt more ill now.

Carrotzen · 12/07/2022 09:54

Feel royally pissed off that I was expecting a cold and instead am still exhausted 3 months later

Neverendingdust · 12/07/2022 10:00

I’m not sure if there’s much difference between experiences of V and UV with this wave.

Unvaccinated colleague (40s) currently on her second round of Covid this year (3 in total) and she said she feels horrific like her body doesn’t know what to do and has a sky high temperature, very similar symptoms to another boosted colleague (60s) who also has it right now and said the same.

IdiotCreatures · 12/07/2022 10:10

Has anyone else had horrific anxiety and felt all over the place emotionally?

liveforsummer · 12/07/2022 10:18

Agree I wouldn't describe it as a mild cold - more like a very bad cold but the worst of it being more short lived as bad colds can linger on. Maybe a mild flu as I've had flu twice and it was utterly horrendous again worst of the symptoms of covid which were milder than the worst of flu lasted far less time

vjg13 · 12/07/2022 10:52

I've had flu once and was totally floored by it. I was in bed for 3 days and really didn't want to move. Didn't leave the house for over a week. This is much milder so far!

overthinkersanonnymus · 12/07/2022 10:56

Finally got a negative test this morning, day 10. It was definitely like full blown flu for me (unvaccinated) and more like a Heavy cold for DP (double jabbed).

Judy been to to the supermarket and I'm now shattered and also feel a bit dumb 🤣 like I can't remember how to do things or even read properly. Very weird

NigellaAwesome · 12/07/2022 11:21

I'm so surprised at the number of people who have never had flu, or only once or twice. I used to get it without fail every year and only stopped once I started getting annual flu jabs. Even with the jab I have picked it up.

I guess some people are just more susceptible to it.

liveforsummer · 12/07/2022 11:39

Are you sure it was actually flu? Lots of flu like viruses floating around that aren't as bad. I don't think I'd leave the house during flu season if it was inevitable I'd catch it each year. The most I'll I've ever felt for a prolonged period.

Magic1231 · 12/07/2022 12:25

I started with a scratchy throat on friday and I've felt progressively worse since! I thought I was out of the woods with it having dodged it for do long. Its effecting me neurologicaly too, also bringing on a lot of anxiety xxx

Did you still have any symptoms when you got your negative test?

SleepingAgent · 12/07/2022 13:29

Had the headache and muscle aches by the fatigue was the worst. Have a shower, lie down for 2 hours. Put a wash on, lie down for an hour. Didn't leave the house for 10 days as couldn't face the effort. Couldn't concentrate on emails or anything for work. The only time I've felt that exhausted was after giving birth and I had a lot more help then!
