This is not a mild cold!

I'm positive for the first time after three vaccinations and I feel awful! Has anyone else avoided it for so long and been properly wiped out?

I have a bad cold, scratchy sore throat, slight cough, massive headache, dizziness and I ache everywhere. But most of all I'm just exhausted. I tested positive immediately on Wednesday and the line is getting stronger and I feel worse each day

I'm feeling floored by it, and I guess I was blasé about it. However it's nothing like as bad as flu which I had in my mid 20s and ended up in hospital on a drip and took 6 months to recover from. That was brutal.

maskersanonymous · 11/07/2022 19:51

gwenneh I had rather frightening neurological issues when I had Covid at Xmas. I was in bed for three weeks but had no lung involvement and no cold or cough type symptoms. However, I have actually been better since having Covid (after having a bad reaction to the vaccines with similiar neuro issues each time). I haven't got Long Covid either so you may well be fine.

Hippopotamousses · 11/07/2022 20:28

Bloody hell @Ginajo that must have been awful!

Hoping you are all feeling a little better. Still a strong positive for me and symptoms aren't any better.

This is my first time with it. Tested positive yesterday. Single parent and the kids are fine but I think its matter of time.

Proper fluey, achey, exhausted, feel sick, shivers and sweats, pressure build up in my head that's making me want to drill a hole in my skull to relieve it. I thought I was immune to this crap but obvs not

ToastedWaffle · 11/07/2022 21:05

Fully jabbed too

Hippopotamousses · 11/07/2022 21:18

@ToastedWaffle Sudafed has relieved the head pressure for me. Still feel crap but it has helped

OP posts:
halfpasteleven · 11/07/2022 21:37

@ToastedWaffle hope you have some help/support with the kids and that you get well soon

strandedabroad · 11/07/2022 21:42

I feel so lucky, I've just had it for the first time and I only tested because one of the kids were positive and I felt a little tired.

Other than one day of random tiredness I've had nothing at all - to the point I wouldn't have tested had I not had a case at home.

Really random and really worrying to think this could be the case for a lot of people and they would keep mixing without a clue.

floweringpoppies · 11/07/2022 21:46

I've had it for a week but am back to work tomorrow. Today is the first day my headache has gone. I had 3 days of fever and then the worst sore throat ever. Just glad symptoms have gone so I can get back to work!

GiggidyGiggidy2022 · 11/07/2022 21:50

I'm unvaccinated and had it twice. Both times no symptoms. There's been a few times in recent weeks where I've received a text from someone I've been in close contact with to say they've got it and aren't well.

I'm feeling very glad now that I trusted my own immune system. Everyone I know that's had it and has been vaccinated has had it quite bad. Unbelievably I've had a few friends who were firm believers in the vaccines, but have now admitted they wished they never got it because it's done nothing for them in terms of protecting against the virus (one triple vaxx'd has had it 4 times!) and lessoning their symptoms.

floweringpoppies · 11/07/2022 21:56

@GiggidyGiggidy2022 my friend wasn't vaccinated and nearly died!

Hippopotamousses · 11/07/2022 21:59

@GiggidyGiggidy2022 I respect your choice, but I'm still glad I had my vaccinations. It is strange how it can affect some people and not others though, I wonder if we will ever know why. I have CEV family members and colleagues so I couldn't risk it.

@floweringpoppies I am so sorry, how is your friend doing now? Wishing him/her and you all the best

Well if I wasn't vaxxed I could well be dead.

You have no idea how ill they may have been without it.

floweringpoppies · 11/07/2022 22:03

@Hippopotamousses she's still suffering effects but is doing ok. Am dreading her getting it again.

I think it shows that it's just different for all,

Hippopotamousses · 11/07/2022 22:04

However @GiggidyGiggidy2022 I wonder how much is your immune system and how much is luck. I have had a comprehensive health screen with every test going within the last couple of years and I am in the best of health. Covid has hit me badly though.

Hippopotamousses · 11/07/2022 22:07

@floweringpoppies I wish her all the best. It's a strange illness. I for one am worried about Long Covid as I have a history of ME and I haven't felt like this in years (waiting for the Covid/ME deniers)

I feel the exact same as you, I'm freezing cold with a fever so I'm wrapped under my quilt in this heat. But my test came back negative 🤔

Sleepyquest · 11/07/2022 22:12

Tested positive today. Felt rubbish last week but was getting negative tests. Could it be the two are unrelated and I'm just very unlucky? Had started to feel better on Sunday only to feel like crap again today!

Maybe focus on getting better than over worrying about what will be. I've had covid twice and felt absolutely fine, worked throughout it, had a virus a few weeks ago and I felt horrific for 3 days.

SortingOffice · 11/07/2022 22:28

It's quite noticeable on these threads how surprised people are at feeling so ill.
I'd be interested to know what your attitude to covid was before you got it OP ? Did you think those who were ill were somehow unfit or weak and were you expecting to brush it off easily?
Personally I thought I might do badly initially but was relaxing a bit when I got it last year. Totally surprised to end up in hospital. Undoubtedly would have been much worse pre-vaccine.

The fatigue is unreal. I lost the ability to walk for a while. Made a full recovery- long covid seems unrelated to severity of illness.

theskyisbluernow · 11/07/2022 22:32

I've only just recovered after 2 weeks. It was the worst I've felt ever, full-on, for 12 days. I've had flu a couple of times in my life, and felt that bad for 2-3 days, but this just kept going. The continuing effect on the economy will be huge I imagine. Today at least I do feel normal again, and could taste my coffee this morning for the first time in a week.

Hippopotamousses · 11/07/2022 22:44

@SortingOffice

Unfit or weak? Quite possibly, because I have been caring for a family member with terminal cancer so I do tend to be a little sensitive about an illness which could make them seriously unwell. My concerns about my own health are because I also worry about how I can care for them

Similar here. Felt tired on Friday afternoon. I fell asleep. Woke up with a stuffed up nose and mild headache. Did an LFT, and a second. Positive. I had been in contact with someone who later tested positive, so it was always a possibility.

It's just the same as last time. A cold, but not as bad as most colds.

The only thing I can really relate to is the leg pain. My legs ached for months last time. And they ache now if I'm walking up the stairs.

It's a very strange thing. It's so odd that people half my age, fit, healthy , non smoking, health conscious are struggling with this. I'm going to test tomorrow because sitting here now I feel completely normal again, so I'd like to know if I've literally cleared this that quickly.

DH has never had it despite me not isolating from him. Neither have the DC. Does a lower initial viral load lead to less severe disease? less severe disease to less viral shedding? but that cannot be correct! it's very odd.

NigellaAwesome · 11/07/2022 23:04

Tomorrow will be my day 5. I didn't feel too bad today. Knackered after getting a shower this morning, but I improved throughout the day. Still have a productive cough, but temp is down, and my peak flow reading has improved (to about 75%).

I may try a lateral flow test tomorrow. It is draining trying to isolate within the house as I don't want anyone else in the family to pick it up.
