On course for another lockdown?

Covis cases on a rapid rise, heading towards 100,000 daily cases. Are we heading for another lockdown?

OP posts:
shrunkenhead · 19/03/2022 07:27

No way! I couldn't go through that again. Like a pp said we're taking extra people into our homes and just cracking on with life now. No need to test, self isolate, stay off work etc just as it is with the common cold.

Fizzbo · 19/03/2022 07:27

🙄

Neolara · 19/03/2022 07:29

It's nearer to 280,000 cases a day according to the Zoe app. It's been over 100,000 a day for months. But no, not a chance of another lockdown.

peboh · 19/03/2022 07:30

Nope.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 19/03/2022 07:30

Not for as long as the disease that the current variant produces is mild (ie does not require hospital treatment)

But it does mean that it's unlikely there will be the hoped-for inroads into the backlog. Hospitals need to be safe for people such as vulnerable patients on chemo, and that will complicate how places such as scanning departments can be run safely.

Flapjacker48 · 19/03/2022 07:31

No chance. Biscuit

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 19/03/2022 07:33

@hamstersarse

Given lockdowns don’t work and only achieve a reduction in infections of 0.2%, all the while destroying the economy, jobs, education, mental health….yeah, good idea!
Do you really really think the exponential growth of the initial outbreak would have subsided spontaneously?

Or that the reductions in case numbers that followed a week or so after tightening of restrictions were all coincidence?

DockOTheBay · 19/03/2022 07:33

@hamstersarse

Do you have a source for this statistic?
axolotlfloof · 19/03/2022 07:35

My Dad is finding facilities for older people are already closing.
This is largely because of staff absence, but partly to "stop the spread".
He is relatively cautious but would still like to carry on as normal.

toomuchlaundry · 19/03/2022 07:36

Our local schools are in the worse position they have ever been during the whole pandemic with staff and pupil absences.

Orchidsonthetable · 19/03/2022 07:36

No of course not op, you know the answer to this already right?

For the overwhelming majority of people this is at worst a bad cold. It’s now treated like the flu. As a society we carry on, ans yes like flu it’s dangerous for some and deadly for others.

You know we aren’t locking down. You simply cannot have missed how this has evolved.

KatherineJaneway · 19/03/2022 07:37

No

BigButtons · 19/03/2022 07:37

I have covid now for the first time and I teach. My school currently has many many staff and pupils absent. This is the most we have had in anyone time since the whole of the pandemic started.

devildeepbluesea · 19/03/2022 07:38

Christ, some people are desperate for this never to end aren’t they.

toomuchlaundry · 19/03/2022 07:40

@Orchidsonthetable I don’t ever remember schools being so impacted by flu as they are at the moment by COVID

Toottooot · 19/03/2022 07:40

Yes - PM Johnson is going to announce full on lockdown on Tuesday at 5pm. Initially for 3 weeks but we all know what happened 2 years ago.

Lesina · 19/03/2022 07:41

Give it up. There won’t be another lockdown.

millytint44 · 19/03/2022 07:41

It's JUST A COLD NOW!!!!

TheKeatingFive · 19/03/2022 07:42

That you nanny?

FuckThatBullshit · 19/03/2022 07:43

Lol not a chance and if they ever try to enforce once I hope the whole country sticks two fingers up, I know I will be 😂

LadyGAgain · 19/03/2022 07:43

Oh just stop OP.

Footballsundays6777 · 19/03/2022 07:43

Lockdown no… but potentially a reintroduction of restrictions- ie masks etc.
the idea of lockdown is to prevent the NHS from becoming overwhelmed, hospital admissions for covid are up 25% on last week however we are nowhere near the admissions of 2020 and early 2021.

Boosters will be rolled out soon, personally I still wear a mask in my office if i move around. Lots of people have been seriously Ill with it in my office so for me it’s
Not worth it.

toomuchlaundry · 19/03/2022 07:44

@millytint44 say that to many teachers who are currently being floored by it

Footballsundays6777 · 19/03/2022 07:44

Also I think the only thing that would trigger a lockdown is a vaccine resistant variant, which is always a possibility

Dawnofthefed · 19/03/2022 07:45

No way! People wouldn't even accept restrictions any more nevermind another lockdown. They need to concentrate on getting GPS and other medical practitioners to see patients if they are interested in the health of the country and stop denying people a health service.
