Covis cases on a rapid rise, heading towards 100,000 daily cases. Are we heading for another lockdown?

Yes I read a study by John's Hopkins that said lockdowns reduced covid mortality by 0.2% only and that full closure of shops etc only reduced infection by 10%.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 19/03/2022 07:47

There will never ever be the same level of compliance as spring 2020.

duckme · 19/03/2022 07:47

GMB wheeled Dr Hilary out again this week, even he admitted the will of the people wouldn't allow a lockdown to happen.

dizzydizzydizzy · 19/03/2022 07:48

@millytint44

It's JUST A COLD NOW!!!!

@millytint44 NO NO NO!

I had covid mid February and have been testing negative for 3 weeks. I have been signed off work ever since. I spent about half the day in bed because I am so fatigued. If I try and do anything much I get a headache. You don't get this with a cold. It's clearly not that rare either because my GP was able to tell me at the start what it would be like and how long it would be likely to take.

I don't think we will go back into lockdown because it is politically unacceptable. However we certainly should not have got rid of restrictions. We are paying the price now.

Footballsundays6777 · 19/03/2022 07:48

I’d keep in mind John Hopkins is American and the study will reflect that

Moody123 · 19/03/2022 07:49

No , given the situation in China currently on what a 0 Covid approach is like... I'm glad we're not in lockdown , we are vaccinated and getting immunity from getting the virus , while keeping hospital admissions down ... that's the best thing for us

TheKeatingFive · 19/03/2022 07:50

Scotland has much higher rates of covid despite not dropping restrictions. What are they paying the price for?

Ironfloor269 · 19/03/2022 07:51

Nopity nope.

Aposterhasnoname · 19/03/2022 07:52

Lol. No. HTH

This

x2boys · 19/03/2022 07:53

People were scared two years ago that's why the majority complied for most of the time
With vaccines and seemingly milder varients we have no need to lockdown .

balalake · 19/03/2022 07:55

Whatever our views on whether some restrictions should return, they will not, except maybe for visiting hospitals and care homes.

Partyatnumber10 · 19/03/2022 07:57

No, there's a new variant of a variant which is causing a global rise in cases (plus all restrictions being dropped might be contributing) but they're saying it's more transmissible but not more severe.

I think we may well see a return of the low level stuff EG masks, isolation period, work from home if you can etc but I think we're a long, long way off another lockdown.

Apart from anything else we can't afford it and compliance will be very poor this time around and the govt know that.

I’ve seen this information too.

Not a chance another lockdown would be tolerated by the population. Even China appears to be giving up on lockdowns

implantreplace · 19/03/2022 07:59

Some will have their fingers crossed but in reality

No. Chance!!
@Orchidsonthetable I don’t ever remember schools being so impacted by flu as they are at the moment by COVID
Yes but at least part of that is because if someone had asymptomatic or mild flu, they’d keep teaching, unaware they had flu.
My mum is a secondary school teacher and has covid at the moment and so is off school, but she’s fine. I’m not saying the school policy is wrong and she should be in, but it does mean that comparisons to the effects of flu are a bit pointless as you aren’t comparing like with like because the effects of flu only come from people being too ill to work, whereas covid has a wider effect.

Oblomov22 · 19/03/2022 08:01

No.
Why are you scaremongering? Angry

toomuchlaundry · 19/03/2022 08:01

@SickAndTiredAgain your mum is probably in the minority most teachers I know who have had COVID recently have been too ill to teach

Footballsundays6777 · 19/03/2022 08:01

It’s not really scaremongering 🙈

implantreplace · 19/03/2022 08:02

I’m viewing it as a comedy thread!
Lovemusic33 · 19/03/2022 08:03

Why do people post this as soon as cases rise?

I can’t see that we will ever have another lockdown, we have vaccines, deaths are low despite infections being high, that was the whole point of the vaccine? It was never going to get rid of covid, covid is with us forever like flu and the common cold, it will always cause some deaths and will always spread during the winter/spring. We just need to live with it.

SickAndTiredAgain · 19/03/2022 08:05

@MalbecandToast

I heard that study discussed on More or Less (the bbc radio 4 statistics programme). It was a meta-anlaysis and they had concerns about the selection methods used to include/exclude studies. It was carried out by economists, not medical experts, and from what I remember, under the “lockdown” umbrella it included any non-pharmacological interventions. So policies of social distancing were counted as well as “full” lockdown to get to the conclusion. Plus according to the person more or less spoke to, they didn’t properly account for the time lag between introduction of measures, and seeing the effects of them.

To be clear, I absolutely do not think there should be another lockdown. I just don’t think that particular statistic is that good.

PenguinPup · 19/03/2022 08:07

No of course not.

CosmicComfort · 19/03/2022 08:08

There won’t be any more lockdowns but healthcare and treatments will be affected by Covid-19 rates amongst patients and staff in healthcare settings.

I’m a nurse in mental health and we are seeing an increase in Covid-19 positive patients being admitted. It’s difficult to manage and very stressful trying to prevent further spread.

And more staff on my ward have had Covid-19 this year than at any point during the pandemic.

It’s still tough for lots of people.

Daqqe · 19/03/2022 08:08

Lol. He’s ending free testing in two weeks.. literally the opposite of a lockdown 😂 thsnkgod.

It’s pretty hot in our school right now but 99% of the kids are off school because they have to isolate, not because they are poorly. We’ve had a few teachers off, we had face to face parents eve this week 🙌🏼 & my DDs teacher said they’ve all had it mildly and could have been back around day5 but they all tested positive until day 10. She said she’d be glad to get back to normal. I agree.
