I'll start! I'm in North Yorkshire and prior to today it has been almost 100% mask compliance. It was more 70%-ish here today following the mandate being lifted. Where do you live (city or county) and what's it like where you are?

P.S: if you think this is a boring topic, irrelevant or if you're sick of talking about masks then please feel free not to read any further.... and no, I don't have anything better to do Grin

I went in the post office and was the only one wearing a mask but haven't been to any other shops.

wendz86 · 27/01/2022 16:12

Oh and i am in Hertfodshire.

Shitzngiggles · 27/01/2022 16:13

South East and I'd say about 95% are still wearing masks. That's from going into 2 supermarkets today.

Interesting- I'd heard anecdotally that mask wearing was higher down south.

Most. Southwest.

Shitzngiggles · 27/01/2022 16:17

@Monsterathai certainly where I am its been high compliance throughout the whole pandemic. Its actually Surrey to narrow it down a bit.

princesspeppax · 27/01/2022 16:17

I'm West of Scotland where mark wearing is is still a legal requirement, i'd say about 70% still wearing them. I work in retail to so do see a lot of people day to day!

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 27/01/2022 16:18

In the shops I visited in Oxfordshire it seemed pretty much everyone was still wearing them this morning.

Thank you! That is a surprise- I thought it was higher in Scotland (realise this is anecdotal though).

I’m also in Surrey. Nobody on buses were wearing masks today, although the school bus has just dropped off children and they are all still wearing masks.

SamphiretheStickerist · 27/01/2022 16:22

Actually, I'll add to that.

Supermarket on pension day. Everyone wearing masks, many putting them on to walk across the car park. Everybody nodding, smiling, saying hello to complete strangers. All perfectly normal round here.

Group of 4 mid twenties not wearing masks and being loud about them not being compulsory. An older man got to them before I did and said loudly about them needing to open their eyes, look at the fear in those they were standing next to. One of the men looked embarrassed and put his mask on. Two women flounced on into the shop "who do s he think he is" ing. 4th man left.

So not only are we still wearing them we are remonstrating with those who choose to flex their rights, regardless of whom that might affect.

And I don't care who thinks negatively about that. It costs very little to be careful not your neighbour's sensibilities and not to stand so firmly upon your rights.

I think my grandmother would have called it having some basic manners

girlmom21 · 27/01/2022 16:27

I'm West Midlands and I'd say about 95% were wearing them in Sainsburys today

BillGigolo · 27/01/2022 16:31

Most, I’d say. I’m in Glasgow and Scotland has never dropped the mask mandate but it does vary by area. If I go to a big shopping centre or into town I do see a fair few not wearing them (but still outnumbered by those who do). Still high compliance in my bit of suburbia though.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 27/01/2022 16:40

IME, it very much depends on the type of setting and demographic. I'm in a large town in the SE. I popped to Waitrose in the suburbs (fairly quiet, mostly older people or women with small children) at lunchtime today and didn't see a single person not wearing a mask. In Tesco yesterday at about 4pm (tons of families with kids after school) only about 70% mask wearing. Going into town on the bus last weekend, only about 25% of people were wearing masks. Most young people/teenagers seem to have stopped.

mynameiscalypso · 27/01/2022 16:43

Supermarket in London. Pretty much all customers wearing them. None of the staff I saw were wearing them.

CraftyGin · 27/01/2022 16:44

I was in Sainsbury's this morning and it looked close to 100% mask wearing. Surrey.

lorca · 27/01/2022 16:48

Also Surrey - 2 supermarkets today, about 3 people, mostly elderly, wearing masks.

Most, including me, not.

Monsterathai · 27/01/2022 16:49

Surrey sounds like a place of contrasts!

South East, I’ve been on a spa day and had a hotel lunch and got taxis there and back. Both taxi drivers wore masks, the beauticians wore them, as did one lady walking around the spa, one man outside in the street but I didn’t see any others all day. I probably saw 70 or so people today.

caringcarer · 27/01/2022 16:50

When I dropped child at school everyone except one man.

Monsterathai · 27/01/2022 16:53

It's interesting because when I visit my folks in my hometown (a pretty run down part of Lancashire) only about 30% seemed to wear them even when mandated- don't think anyone would fancy challenging anyone who wasn't wearing one either (as per upthread)!!

OP posts:
buckleten · 27/01/2022 16:53

Oxfordshire, I would say about 80% of the people I saw out and about, maybe slightly more..

LethargeMarg · 27/01/2022 16:54

East mids it's about 70% normally- more in supermarkets less in corner shops - only been to get petrol and to the coop to get cash out and it was similar still lots with masks on

2X4B523P · 27/01/2022 16:54

Visited a Kent Sainsburys late morning today and was about 80% customers and less than half of staff wearing masks. @Monsterathai thanks for finishing off the who's going to ditch masks thread yesterday evening, I was going to do the exact thing but you beat me to it. And yes it was very poetic it ended just as the mandate did even though OP created thread before even knowing when it would be!
