Quick poll: how many people are still wearing masks in your area?

I'll start! I'm in North Yorkshire and prior to today it has been almost 100% mask compliance. It was more 70%-ish here today following the mandate being lifted. Where do you live (city or county) and what's it like where you are?

P.S: if you think this is a boring topic, irrelevant or if you're sick of talking about masks then please feel free not to read any further.... and no, I don't have anything better to do Grin

Fewer every day

PlanetNormal · 17/02/2022 18:17

Big Tesco in Leicestershire today : mask compliance about 10%. The vast majority of people appear to have decided it’s all over.

Whammyyammy · 17/02/2022 18:40

Until i read the update/bump last night I forgot about masks and don't notice. Went to sainsburys today, they've removed the one way entrance/exit system, didn't hear any tannoys but noticed about 30% still wearing masks.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 17/02/2022 20:18

I'm a rational, educated person honestly and I don't wear one now. I'm just not convinced they have any efficacy at all.

bumblefeline · 17/02/2022 21:15

Hardly anyone in Asda now, not even me, I have given up now.

A few in M&S. A couple in home bargains.

Earlydancing · 17/02/2022 22:35

In the North West. Depends where you go.
In M&S food hall, most people.
Mini Tesco on a Thursday night, apparently just me.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 17/02/2022 22:49

It started off with quite a few when the mandates were lifted, the last week I’ve noticed less and less people. Tbh I’m currently wearing a mask because someone in the house has it but as they are almost free I shall be ditching the mask again.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 17/02/2022 22:49

And I’m in the south east

Vanderlayinfustries · 18/02/2022 00:38

I went to the pharmacy to get the lifesaving meds that help me to actually breathe today. Much stronger ones post Covid because it ruined my lungs so badly. Not one other customer was wearing a mask. If I catch it again I get very ill but I need my medication.

If you used your rationality and education to read all the unbiased peer reviewed studies you’d know they do make a huge difference. Especially ffp2 masks as recommended in most countries. The right masks even when not fit tested cut spread by more than80%.
Cripesitsthegasman19 · 18/02/2022 04:53

But most people don't wear ffp2 masks and most people don't wear cloth masks properly so what's the point?

garlictwist · 18/02/2022 04:55

In my area hardly anyone. In my sisters area a few miles away which is much more well to do, most people. So I think it can vary very much even within the same city.

The problem is, this relates to pre-Omicron strains which were not as transmissible.

You said masks don’t work. Are you saying that what you really meant to say this country’s mask policy and public health messaging is terrible? Is that your “point”

Even surgical and cloth masks cut transmission. Not by as much but studies show they help.

VikingOnTheFridge · 18/02/2022 09:44

With Omicron?

user1471443411 · 21/02/2022 22:10

It still seems to vary so much day by day, and shop by shop. It used to be the case that the posher shops, like M&S, had more mask wearers, and places like B&M had much fewer. Now it almost seems to have been reversed, I went in B&M the other day in a very deprived area and I was the only customer not wearing a mask (it was early morning and quite busy). Also, in my local corner shop today, most other customers had them on and till staff too. A customer came in with mask and shield.

DahliaMacNamara · 22/02/2022 20:49

Local shops, around 50/50. Mixed area socially, with a higher than average percentage of retired people.

XenoBitch · 22/02/2022 21:03

Was in a busy cafe today. No one was wearing masks. A chap walked out, and put one on to go outside. I thought that was odd!

whitedahlias · 23/02/2022 12:42

I think about 30% are wearing them. Mostly women, and older men. Curiously, a few of the older chaps were doing the "round the chin" thing. I was a bit perplexed by that, I must say.

Seen that from tomorrow masks advisory on TFL.

littlepeas · 23/02/2022 12:54

Not as many as when this thread was first started, but still a fair number of people in masks. Unless they personally care strongly in one direction or the other, I think most people just do what the majority are doing around them - so if they go into a shop and lots are wearing masks they put it on and vice versa.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 23/02/2022 17:06

I will carry on wearing FFP2 masks on the train until we run out of them (we maybe have 8 left). I still have some cloth masks so will take a view after that.

PainterMummy · 24/02/2022 16:22

Surrey. Out for dinner last night. Myself and my friends all wore masks. Waitress did the nonsensical wearing mask under her chin. Not sure what that counts as.
