Quick poll: how many people are still wearing masks in your area?

I'll start! I'm in North Yorkshire and prior to today it has been almost 100% mask compliance. It was more 70%-ish here today following the mandate being lifted. Where do you live (city or county) and what's it like where you are?

P.S: if you think this is a boring topic, irrelevant or if you're sick of talking about masks then please feel free not to read any further.... and no, I don't have anything better to do Grin

Most. It’s an area with a lot of older people, which I think is more relevant than the region, I noticed a lot of mask wearing here before it was required (compared to where I lived at the time).

That might have something to do with it- loads of old folk in North Yorkshire too and it's much more affluent than where I grew up.

We're in Bucks, usually 100% and probably down to about 80% today. I would have ditched mine too, but DD tested positive again this morning!

Watercoloursky · 27/01/2022 17:00

Small town on the south coast - very dependent on the venue today. In a local charity shop that supports (and is staffed by) people with learning disabilities, it was 100% when I visited - but there's a sign on the door asking you to still wear a mask to protect the staff as many of them are vulnerable. In the local Co-op, maybe 50:50? (among customers - none of the Co-op staff were wearing them)

I feel your pain- we're also waiting for PCR for my son who has been sent home today.

Was in a Waitrose today. (South east) The lady at the checkout said she'd only seen 2 people without a mask.

user1471443411 · 27/01/2022 17:11

I'm in Derbyshire and if anything I'd say more people are wearing masks than before - I couldn't believe it! Loads of people walking around outside with masks on.
It was the same in shops, I'm not sure whether some people don't realise yet, I was the only customer not wearing a mask, more shop staff seem not to be wearing them though.

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2022 17:12

Worcestershire and most people wearing masks inc. retail staff.
Took cat to the vets and had an email beforehand saying clients should still wear one.

Aesop12 · 27/01/2022 17:14

Waitrose Surrey - DH went and saw nobody without a mask

Assssssssssss · 27/01/2022 17:21

I have a young child and dont wear masks as it promotes a healthy communication between us as she can't see my face. I don't think that it is good to be covered when child is around as she nears to hear my non muffled voice, however when I am not with child I do but my mask on.

RedRosie · 27/01/2022 17:28

This again?
Actually I'm on a London bus, in the full flow of commuter-time and just had a look around.
Pretty much everyone is wearing a mask.
Anecdata, obvs.

Yes, 'this again'- it's a free country and I refer you back to the OP - if you're bored pop off somewhere else!

Lincolnshire village
Hardly anyone is wearing one. Was really nice to see people's faces again. Smile

Remonstrating with people Grin What on earth do you think gives you that right? I'd love for someone to "remonstrate" with me.

Oh I forgot it was being lifted today. Makes a lot of sense. I thought 50% more people weren't wearing them for no apparent reason, but now I get it! Most of the people I see aren't wearing them, but it's never been full compliance. Almost 100% on public transport and has been since the beginning of mask wearing, but everywhere else it's a lot less than that. It's amazing how many people are exempt!

Onegingerhead · 27/01/2022 18:00

East of England, Tesco today and only about 25% wearing masks. Will try Sainsbury’s tomorrow but have a feeling it ll be the same since they only encourage people wearing masks but not denying them the service

2X4B523P · 27/01/2022 18:01

@Monsterathai

You wasn’t the only one who didn’t realise there was already other threads for asking for peoples observations after removal of the mandate this time round. Can’t seem to find them anywhere.

Forgot to add earlier, I think the time of day has a big impact on percentages of people wearing and not. Earlier in the day tends to be more than late afternoon and evening.

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/01/2022 18:01

Scotland - pretty much everyone as it is still the law

SamMil · 27/01/2022 18:02

Cambridgeshire. I havent been out today but husband has been to kids swimming lesson and a big Tesco and said everyone was still in masks.

Bookaholic73 · 27/01/2022 18:04

Semi rural Cornwall and 100% of people were wearing masks today.

fitflopqueen · 27/01/2022 18:05

Derbyshire - Aldi - nearly everyone in masks - I felt awkward not having one on for the first time and will wear one in future.

Tiny charity shop - 1 volunteer - 2 customers and I entered - very friendly, no masks at all.

MichelleScarn · 27/01/2022 18:09

*So not only are we still wearing them we are remonstrating with those who choose to flex their rights, regardless of whom that might affect.

And I don't care who thinks negatively about that. It costs very little to be careful not your neighbour's sensibilities and not to stand so firmly upon your rights.

I think my grandmother would have called it having some basic manners*

Confused You sound so proud.. any other 'rights' you think people shouldn't have?

Which makes you a perfect online example of the same self centred, unthinking actions as those I described.

It's not funny to many people. Everyone has to manage their own risks, but deliberate actions to make others uncomfortable, or mocking people for thinking differently to you? That's really unpleasant.

Maybe have another read. I said nothing about people not having rights.

Still a legal requirement in Northern Ireland although seems like too many men think they breathe through their chins !
