Anyone else done now?

Know I'll get slated but I'm so past caring.

Anyone else just completely done with it now? Ran out of LFTs ages ago and I'll never do another again, wouldn't even go for a PCR now with symptoms tbh. I'd stay in until I felt better like I do with everything else and then crack on.

The only reason I wear masks in shops is because of people moaning if you don't. As soon as it's no longer required that'll be in the bin.

I actually took it really seriously the past two years and did everything we were supposed to. Triple jabbed etc etc... But I can't be arsed giving it anymore headspace now. I'm sick of hearing about it, sick of seeing it on the news, sick of people talking about it.

From today on I highly doubt I'll ever voluntarily think about Covid again, in a way that restricts anything I do anyway.

Their rates also went through the roof despite all these apparently sensible, effective mitigations.

There are a couple of posters on here who have spent the past few months being like a stuck record: "We're not asking for lockdowns, just SENSIBLE MITIGATIONS. MASKS AND VENTILATION, TEST AND TRACE, VACCINE PASSPORTS."

I am looking at continental Europe, and in the countries that have done all these sensible little tweaks, they appear to have done close to fuck-all.

Possibly a Wuhan-style lockdown could contain omicron, but the moment for this kind of thing is past, even if it ever existed.

They must think if I shout about it on MN often enough it will magically happen.

Blubells · 22/01/2022 13:37

Lucky for you to be "done" with it though

Why is it do bad for many to be 'done' with the past two years restrictions? Especially young people who've made huge sacrifices?

Why shouldn't these pe look forward to more normality? Like University students who are looking forward to their first ever 'live' lecture?

Yep France far higher, other countries high

Even the Netherlands lockdown didn’t suppress omicron

Everyone is talking about the peak because passing that is what will bring cases down. Not mitigations

@Katie517

I’ve been done since about May 2020! Glad people are finally catching up! They really need to stop reporting the “daily numbers” now.
Same. Felt like an alien on this planet. I think covid must change people's personalities and reasoning powers.
Alliswells · 22/01/2022 15:44

@BettyfromBristol

I'm sorry you are CEV but pre covid if you were CEV you would have used your own common sense and done your own risk assessment.

The arrival of Covid meant that for the past 2 years the rest of the world whether CEV or not had to make huge huge sacrifices for the greater good. We've worn masks, socially distanced, socially isolated, got 3 vaccines, had lockdowns and semi lockdowns and restrictions, lost jobs, lost businesses, not seen family, children missed out on their education, not seen our GP or dentist when we needed to ........... All for the greater good and to protect others.

But......... we now have huge numbers of people triple vaccinated, huge number of people who have anti bodies from infection, and the virus itself is generally speaking now a much milder form.
It is time to get back to normal.

Alliswells · 22/01/2022 15:51

sorry hit send too soon.

@BettyfromBristol ........... the whole world cared that much about you and others that are CEV that we effectively changed every single aspect of our lives. For you.

Because we cared.

We changed our lives and our children's lives for two years.
For you.

But now you are implying that because we now want our lives back that we don't care about you? I'm struggling to understand that tbh and it feels you are being quite selfish. And entitled. I'm so sorry but it does.

With infection and hospital rates falling and the virus generally being much milder and levels of vaccination ........... what do you propose we all do now? Surely you are not saying restrictions are still required?

Come on now, get with the program. You are supposed to be laughing at us England dwellers, not positively encouraging us.

175k dead, or perhaps 155k if you don't count those inconsiderate enough not to die within 28 days of a positive test.

A wise commentator over here in Ireland made the point that the best thing the Irish did for their covid death rates was export large numbers of poor people to the U.K. in the sixties.

Ireland has a much younger population, lower levels of BAME, lower obesity and other underlying conditions. I'm not sure what the figures look like if you adjust for that, but I'd be willing to bet it changes the picture significantly.

Whammyyammy · 22/01/2022 16:34

Why do people get so angry at others wanting to get on with their lives and not wear face masks forever?
If you're that worried then just stay in or wear a mask yourself and SD when out

You cannot expect others to continue with restrictions for you, a lot of people have put their lives on hold for long enough. If me thinking that "I'm done" and am.going to follow the advice and not wear a mask makes me selfish, then so be it, I couldn't care less tbh.

I'm done and shall be maskless in every setting from Thursday 🎉🎉

Alliswells · 22/01/2022 16:45

Everyone's sacrifices over the last two years has saved thousands & thousands of lives and we are now at a stage where everyone's freedoms & choices just cannot continue to be restricted in order to protect others.
Because of vaccinations, natural immunity, better treatments for Covid and the virus now being much milder we can now move away from government imposed restrictions. Seriously what part of that are people not understanding?
The negative consequences of the whole restrictions, masks etc over the last two years is massive. We have to move on. We just have to.
We have to live with the potential risks and use common sense the same way we do for Flu and other respiratory illnesses.

Topseyt · 22/01/2022 16:48

I'm done with the Covid restrictions. I have been for a long time if I am honest.

Restricted hospital visiting robbed me of the chance to spend my Dad's last few hours with him before he died, and meant that he died alone with only hospital staff around him, not his family. His death wasn't even Covid related.

This was last March and was the final straw for me with regard to Covid restrictions. I've paid little attention to them since because so many were inhumane and should never have been put in place. I will never forget it. Ever.

Fuck the restrictions. I'm not going there again. I'm glad we didn't have another lockdown this winter even though I know that a number of posters on here would have loved one and were positively salivating for it.

I'm not a big socialiser, I've had all of my jabs and boosters. Today I took my mask off in the middle of Aldi when I was struggling to breathe with it on. I will probably never wear it again unless in a medical setting such as a hospital or the GP Surgery.

Flame me if you wish. I no longer care.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 22/01/2022 16:57

What's the answer though? Especially for kids and others that have no protections? Some are on their third infection already. Thousands have been ill for over a year.

Agreed. I don't know anyone that enjoys restrictions, lockdown or wearing a mask. But MN...they love it
MarshaBradyo · 22/01/2022 16:59

Not everyone don’t worry! I loathed all that and I’m so glad it’s coming to an end.

I know it's not all, but the ones that do... WOW. some of them musr have such boring and dull lives that lockdown excites them as everyone else can endure the same levels of mundaneness.
Roselilly36 · 22/01/2022 17:11

Yes I am totally done, I am CEV, but I want to live rather than exist. We need to get back to a normal life, I was in the shielding group and I did shield, NEVER would I do it again. I am disgusted to read the true data on ONS as reported by GB News, a proper news channel, unlike BBC.

2X4B523P · 22/01/2022 17:15

I am surprised at the amount of people on this thread who want normality, very selfish. I would like normality too and I’m sure my cat would. He’s not been allowed out since the start incase someone touches him and then brings it back home.

Well I’m not done till the virus is done. I shall continue to sit the fuck down and take the same precautions as I’ve always done. Will continue bleaching my vegetables and quarantining the post. Will continue to wear my full bio hazard suit with its own oxygen supply if I have to venture outside. Will continue to avoid buying bread and milk as they aren’t essential shopping.

Can’t wait until the virus is finally done and come rain or shine, or even snow, I can get out for a fast ride on my motorcycle.

Well the restrictions clearly didn't help them - so why would doing more of the same be any different.

I have three children, none of them have had it.

I don't know but it's not restricting everyone else until the end of time either.

I started a reply to you before realising you were in jest.

Given the nature of some posts on this forum over the past 2 years, the line between parody and reality is pretty thin.
