Anyone else done now?

Know I'll get slated but I'm so past caring.

Anyone else just completely done with it now? Ran out of LFTs ages ago and I'll never do another again, wouldn't even go for a PCR now with symptoms tbh. I'd stay in until I felt better like I do with everything else and then crack on.

The only reason I wear masks in shops is because of people moaning if you don't. As soon as it's no longer required that'll be in the bin.

I actually took it really seriously the past two years and did everything we were supposed to. Triple jabbed etc etc... But I can't be arsed giving it anymore headspace now. I'm sick of hearing about it, sick of seeing it on the news, sick of people talking about it.

From today on I highly doubt I'll ever voluntarily think about Covid again, in a way that restricts anything I do anyway.

@TheKeatingFive

They're obsessed with HEPA filters!

It's just the latest in a long line of things to bang on about. First it was everyone double vaxxed, then masks, then boosters and now once all that's been exhausted we've landed at hepa filters. There will always be something.

Don't forget ventilation in schools.

Not so much Location, Location, Location, as Ventilation, Mitigation, Ventilation.

Ronaldo2004 · 22/01/2022 11:46

I think it’s time restrictions are ending but after 2 years of not catching it I’ll be really annoyed if I catch it after isolation ends and don’t even get a week off work!

Flapjacker48 · 22/01/2022 11:46

The "improve ventilation in all schools NOW!" gang make me laugh. Let's take the fantasy world where the government throws huge amounts of money at this, there is simply not the builders/HVAC technicians/design engineers to plan/design/install this "ventilation" in any reasonable timetable, it would take years and years, especially as the window for works in schools in only a few weeks a year.

This is also assuming that existing school buildings can be adapted to have much improved HVAC systems - many can't so would need rebuilding.

frazzledali · 22/01/2022 11:53

I see the small minds have decided that because they are DONE then a pandemic is over again. Fucking deja vu.

Yes, as though thousands of schools, many of them in pretty bad repair, could have all this magical 'ventilation' installed just like that.

Of course we're always told that 'other countries' did that within 5 minutes. But did they?

If you read the thread that is not the case at all. So don't know what you mean by 'small minds' or 'Fucking deja vu'. Hmm
TheKeatingFive · 22/01/2022 11:58

I honestly do not understand why some people have so much trouble differentiating between a) the pandemic and b) our response to the pandemic.

It's really not complicated to understand that these are different things. What's the issue?

Songsareliketattoos · 22/01/2022 12:01

@MrsSkylerWhite

Everyone ought to behave according to their personal circumstances. My husband is CEV so we will continue with our precautions. We will restrict our social interactions and wear our FFP3s when we’re out and about. Our children are (just about) adult, our grandchild also. Young, healthy people. I’m delighted that they can go about their lives without restriction. Our youngest chooses to wear masks on public transport and during lectures because he wants to do what he can to protect us (he comes home at weekends) and our eldest and her husband LFT prior to visiting us or his parents (usually two or three times each week, we’re all local).

It’s no big deal to anyone. We all love each other.

Otherwise, life goes on pretty much normally,

Love your post MrsSkylerWhite.

Very similar here for us too, and I am parent to young adults/daughter to CEV parents; we all want what is best for each other because we love and care for everyone in our family, and our friends, and take necessary precautions as needed. I am particularly delighted that all younger people can start to re-engage with more people and opportunities, particularly because so many of them have missed out during the last 2 years (no graduations, christenings, etc, or very restricted celebrations).

I don’t understand either. When you are done with something generally you can avoid it or step away. Obviously you can’t do that with Covid something that is still around but you can still be fed up to the back teeth with it and say so.
grapewine · 22/01/2022 12:10

@HoneyFlowers

After being so so careful for so long not going out socially, not seeing anyone, being only one to wear masks I thought sod it, I went to the seaside for the weekend and caught Covid! Yes I spent a day in bed and I'm tired, but the cold I had before Christmas was far worse! I'm now stuck indoors, I've had to postpone £££££ of work and still can't go out because of isolation time. I have lived in fear and I am grateful to the vaccinations but part of me is thinking wow, was that it?
Worth thinking that "that was it" because you've had the vaccines, and it was possibly omicron, which doesn't attack the lungs ( as far as I read).

That said, I'm also over being over cautious.

treeflowercat · 22/01/2022 12:14

The "improve ventilation in all schools NOW!" gang make me laugh.

Much as better ventilation would be a good thing and something we should strive for, some seem to have latched on to this as being "the thing" that will enable us to beat Covid and enable schools to be safe, and gives them a convenient stick to beat the Government with.

These people can't seem to accept that Covid is on the way to becoming endemic and are still stuck in a mindset of "stopping Covid at all costs" even to the point of getting angry with Covid infected parents driving their children to school because "what if you had an accident and you had to get out of your car and possibly infect someone", because mitigating Covid risk trumps absolutely everything.

WhiteJellycat · 22/01/2022 12:18

But you can choose not to give it disproportionate head space. So ds has covid. He slept in bed with me again. I'm not scared of covid anymore (had it). So I still lft if if ģo out today and wear my mask inside shops. But if I dont go out I wont LFT and it's only on my mind that I need to LFT if go out. I hate what covid has brought with a passion. But I cant change the past. I cant change the rules. I feel immense grief for time lost. But it's also just background noise. I can follow the rules to the letter while really being apathetic.

It's not stealing any more of my life but it's not going to turn me into a rule breaking arsehole. It really doesn't matter any more. That's the bottom line. Because that's my choice.

So I completely agree. Let everyone make their own minds up. We still have rules but if you want to follow them whilst simultaneously not giving a crap. Who's that harming?

No. We are just reacting differently to the pandemic.
treeflowercat · 22/01/2022 12:21

I can't wait for things to move on to change the script from the casual England bashing that so many people, especially from other UK countries love to engage in...

"Ooo, we're so great in Scotland - we love our masks unlike you evil English bastards"

"We should all do what the Spanish do and wear masks all the time, inside and outside, exercising or not, and mandatory for anyone who's old enough to walk - aren't they great! Aren't English people shitty in comparison."

I see the small minds have decided that because they are DONE than a pandemic is ......not the worst thing going on in life right now and not worth everyone's constant panic and headspace 2 years on. Fucking deja vu indeed.

I think they'll be disappointed when, within the next few weeks or months, most of these wonderful 'other countries' follow suit.

Ireland, one of most conservative countries in Europe when it comes to the pandemic, has dropped almost all restrictions as of this morning. It's only a matter of time before pretty much everywhere else in Europe does the same. What will all the 'sensible mitigations' and 'in other countries people care about each other and wear masks when having sex' people do then?

Me too. It went on for soo long
VikingOnTheFridge · 22/01/2022 12:29

I saw that with ROI, very interesting. Their rates also went through the roof despite all these apparently sensible, effective mitigations.

FabriqueBelgique · 22/01/2022 12:33

Yes I’m done. I’m friends with a family who have refused the vaccinations for medical reasons- they all just got covid and it felt like a cold. My friend with terminal cancer also got it and had no symptoms at all.

Obviously if a new scary variant comes out, I’ll rethink.

TheKeatingFive · 22/01/2022 12:34

We're all in a state of shock right now, trust me. In a good way (for most people).

The messaging here is reasonably good I think. We are being told a) we are very highly protected now in terms of vaccines and previous infections, b) omicron is resulting in less severe disease anyway c) despite sky high infections our hospital system is coping and we've passed the peak. There simply isn't the need for restrictions anymore from a public health perspective.

This is true of the U.K. too, however the message is muddied by Boris' leadership issues.

IcedPurple · 22/01/2022 12:34

I guess given Ireland's extensive links with Britain, they got their Omnicron wave early and it's now already peaked, as you say despite all those 'sensible light touch mitigations'.

I think masks are still compulsory in ROI, but up for review in 5 weeks.

The same is going to happen elsewhere in Europe within weeks or months. I wonder how much all those fantastically caring and 'mask compliant' folks in Italy or Spain will continue to show they care once masks are no longer a legal requirement?

TheKeatingFive · 22/01/2022 12:37

There is quiet acknowledgement here that the mitigation's were fuck all use and the government is very keen to appease the hospitality industry in particular, who bore the brunt of them.

germsandcoffee · 22/01/2022 12:39

Not done because I have a very vulnerable son but we are just doing our own risk assessments and enjoying life .
We do have to start treating it like a cold and if your ill stay home until you feel better and if you feel okay then go about your day 🤷‍♀️

roarfeckingroarr · 22/01/2022 12:46

Yup, I don't wear a mask.
