Did anyone not catch omicron if it was in your house?

DH works away from home Monday to Wednesday.

Wednesday night/Thursday morning he woke up with high temp, headache, aches and pains etc. He tested positive straight away.

Today the people he was working with on Tuesday/Wednesday have symptoms and tested positive on LFT.

So far, me and DC are negative and no symptoms. Its sounding like we could start getting symptoms tomorrow. Has anyone managed to not get it when you were in the same house as a positive Omicron case?

DS tested positive. We didn’t operate any sort of quarantine/distancing as it was over Christmas and I wanted to carry on as normal. No one else was infected.

StickyStickyStickStickSong · 15/01/2022 21:07

DH tested positive 27th Dec, he stayed in spare room 90% of the time only leaving for toilet or to go out the back for fresh air and stretch legs.
Me and my baby DS luckily didn't get it

RockinHorseShit · 15/01/2022 21:15

We are now on Day 7 of DH having it, having caught it with 5 of his mates from one other friend who misunderstood the 7 day testing thing, meaning he went out too soon, (he only did & git 1 negative). They were only together about 2,1/2 hours & not in particularly close contact, but everyone caught it bar 2 other that had gotten over it weeks earlier.

He is quarantined in our bedroom with own loo etc & having food & drinks delivered with me in masks etc. plus I'm feeding him a herbal flu tea (mullein) with some science saying it has good antiviral properties etc, but I shared a bed with him for 2 days before realising he had it.

We are being very careful , & I might have even sprayed his room with smelly disinfectant I still haven't caught it & neither has DD.
I haven't had my booster yet either as I was too ill when I got the late call for it.

So it is doable

LittleWingSoul · 16/01/2022 01:25

When DH tested positive on the 6th Jan we figured there was no point isolating him as we'd been sharing a bed, food and the house right up until that point anyway, so it was pretty inevitable it would spread.

The two little ones have caught it, but me and DD13 haven't and on Day 10 now so unlikely we will.

When DH caught it back in March 2020 we isolated him properly, like @RockinHorseShit. It was grim! And we all caught it in the end anyway (no testing while ill back then but completely lost sense of taste and smell and paid for an expensive antibody test. Weird to think how easy it is to test now!)

BaggaTDoubleTroubleDoubleG · 16/01/2022 01:48

We’ve all got what seems to be omicron apart from DH. Dd likely caught it at nursery earlier this week but was asymptomatic. Baby DS tested positive on Thursday and I then did on Friday. We’re both full of cold type symptoms and feeling shit. DH obviously not safe yet but testing daily and so far negative.

MangoSeason · 16/01/2022 01:54

My 3 young unvaccinated children caught it. DH and I, fully vaccinated and boosted didn’t, despite being coughed in, vomited on and sleeping with various sick children most nights. We were also staying with my in-laws. Fully vaccinated and boosted PILs and SIL didn’t catch it. Other fully vaccinated and boosted SIL did catch it. Fully vaccinated but not boosted visiting friend of SIL caught it.

LemonSwan · 16/01/2022 02:18

I am PCR positive right now and still to this day have never had a positive LFT.

DP cba to get a PCR so hes 'not got it' while I isolate - but hes blatantly got it!

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 16/01/2022 02:23

There's 5 of us in my house and we've caught in this week, my mum has it too (I think from one of my kids who passed it to all of us) but my stepdad is still negative.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 16/01/2022 02:25

Also if it matters, everyone other than my kids are double jabbed and boosted. So out of the 5 adults who've been exposed only one is negative for now.

Echoesandsilence · 16/01/2022 07:17

I woke up with a pounding headache during the night - but I do get this commonly amyway.

DS8 also woke up this morning with a bad headache so I'm pretty sure he has it as he never gets headaches. Have done a LFT for him with a very very very faint positive.

2yo seems absolutely fine.

To answer a PPs question, I'm in Ireland and we dont know for sure that its Omicron. I'm just assuming it is based on how fast its tearing through DPs workplace.

Depends on how closely the household are mixing and how quickly DH tested after becoming infectious.

I caught Covid before Christmas. I had had a funny tingling feeling in my nose for a few days before, the sort of feeling that makes you think you might be about to come down with a cold. Absolutely no other symptoms so couldn't get a PCR. I started doing LFTs daily as a precaution and on the third day got a clear positive. This was confirmed by PCR done on the same day as LFT at drive through.

I immediately took myself off to my room and the rest of the family brought me meals and drinks on trays and left them by the door. I then left the tray outside the door when finished. Luckily have ensuite for my room so had my own bathroom to use.

We kept this up until I was able to leave isolation after a second negative LFT on day 7. Rest of family in house ( three adults) remained negative throughout and have done to date. All have been doing LFTs at least twice a week, DD daily as required by her drama school.

I don't know for sure what variant I had but live in London so very likely to be Omicron.

OnGoldenPond · 16/01/2022 11:09

Also very much depends on vaccine status. Much less likely to catch it if have had booster.

SmallestInTheClass · 16/01/2022 16:16

My DD2 and DH when me and DD1 had it. We didn't distance at all. Over a month ago so they won't get it off us now.

Bicnod · 16/01/2022 16:20

Omicron currently in our house. DS2 (10 and unvaccinated) tested positive on Monday, DS1 (12 and double vaxxed) and DH (double vaxxed and boosted) both positive on Thursday, and I (double vaxxed and boosted) tested positive on Friday. DD (7, so not vaccinated) still testing negative Confused I think she must be superhuman...

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 16/01/2022 16:24

I've no idea where I've got it from but somehow everyone I've been around (before isolating obvs) and live with have managed to avoid it.

I don't get how I got it when I've only really done things with the same few people and they haven't!

Opihr · 16/01/2022 16:31

Me. DH and all the kids had it over Xmas, though I'm not certain if it was Omicron or Delta. I never got it despite zillions off tests.

MarshmallowFondant · 16/01/2022 16:34

DD (16 years) had it just before Christmas. None of the rest of us (2 adults 18 year old, 12 year old) caught it.

BigotSpigot · 16/01/2022 16:35

DH and DC tested negative and had no symptoms throughout me having Covid, I did isolate pretty quickly though and was very careful.

Snowiscold · 16/01/2022 16:36

Adult DD who lives with us had it. DH and I didn’t get it.

BaggaTDoubleTroubleDoubleG · 16/01/2022 18:56

In follow up to my earlier post, DH has now tested positive so that’s all of us struck down. Definitely omicron as has been more like a cold/throat thing than a fever/cough virus.

Echoesandsilence · 16/01/2022 20:12

My headache disappeared today so I am ok again for now.

DH seems to be completely back to normal.

8yo has had a rotten day but is enjoying being spoilt.

2yo is still completely fine.

Hopefully me and 2yo will still be ok when we wake tomorrow.

cherryonthecakes · 16/01/2022 20:14

My kids caught Delta but I didn't.
I caught Omicron but they didn't.

My kids are teens so there wasn't lots of physical contact but we often sat down for chats in the same room.

Echoesandsilence · 16/01/2022 20:14

I think my 2yo is going to be superhuman too! I hope the reat of you feel better soon.

2 out of 7 in our house didn't catch it, over these last 3 weeks. One had tested positive (no symptoms) in November - they weren't living with us then.
1 no symptoms
2 a bit unwell - felt like they had a cold but could carry on with life (at home, obviously)
2 really felt quite ill / in bed / lying on the sofa without energy.
