With Omicron cases currently so high, do you know of positive cases in your children's schools yet? Is it primary or secondary?

Yes, several that I've heard about. Primary. (Not DC's class - yet!).

Email received today stating someone in my 5 year old daughter's class has it and she needs to lft for 7 days.

LadyCleathStuart · 10/01/2022 18:25

I assume so because we are in an area with very high rates but they stopped telling us a few months ago. Prior to that my DC only had to isolate once due to a case in the class last Easter when they were sending whole year groups home.

I've not been aware of any of the staff home isolating recently either. My inlaws (parents IL, BIL and SIL) are secondary teachers in 4 different schools and while they do have cases there hasn't been any big disruption to lessons.

TheKeatingFive · 10/01/2022 18:25

Probably, but don't know or particularly care.

CarrieBlue · 10/01/2022 18:30

14 staff, classes sent home.

hedgehogger1 · 10/01/2022 18:36

About 15 tested positive on lateral flow tests in school. Based on the fact some of them had been in school 4-5 hours before their test it's prob higher by now. Lots didn't get tested. Lots are absent for unknown reasons

TheFallenMadonna · 10/01/2022 18:39

Very small school. 10% of children. 20% of staff. Ish.

Blubells · 10/01/2022 18:45

I have no idea.

But I don't really need to know - just as I don't need to know how many cases of cold, flu, or tummy bugs there are.

TheFallenMadonna · 10/01/2022 18:46

I know because one of the 80% of staff.

Blubells · 10/01/2022 18:47

Yep loads in secondary today 2 year groups have been closed down for at least a week

I wonder how many of the pupils or teachers are actually ill for that time?

Dghgcotcitc · 10/01/2022 18:47

Yes has been through autumn term though so not new

MarshaBradyo · 10/01/2022 18:49

Having asked no dc are out of school from class

Might be asymptomatic cases though I suppose - if no LFT not sure how many did it

trumpisagit · 10/01/2022 18:53

The head has stopped telling us. I am not sure what that means though.

isittheholidaysyet · 10/01/2022 18:57

Yes. I know friends' kids have it. No idea how many in the school in general. Medium primary.

Sure there's some in DS' secondary. No idea though.

Theforest · 10/01/2022 19:00

We don't get told. But I am sure there are

Abraxan · 10/01/2022 19:03

We have a few in my school.
One member of staff (first time of catching covid, almost all others have had it once before)
Currently have about 6 children off across school who are positive, had more last week. So low numbers so far this half term, better than last half term.

soundsystem · 10/01/2022 19:04

We got a rather vague message to say there were cases in reception and Y2 and my child was a close contact. I have a child in each of those years so wasn't that clear!

user1471509171 · 10/01/2022 19:14

We have a few staff and children positive in my small primary. So many had it before Christmas and over Christmas we must nearly have herd immunity.Confused

Rockbottom2910 · 10/01/2022 19:29

Primary and a large amount of Dd's class had it.

The school had barely any cases prior to last month. Maybe one of cases that didn't spread any further, isolated cases.

Omicron is definitely more transmissible.

Verite1 · 10/01/2022 19:35

Unbelievably none were picked up in DS secondary school during the school supervised LFT. But there are cases in DDs small primary. We are London.

Callingallskeletons · 10/01/2022 19:37

Yes 15 members of staff off and 12 pupils in my workplace, Around 22 pupils and handful of staff in DC primary school

Bakewelltart987 · 10/01/2022 19:42

Had email today saying dd6 has been incontact with a positive so lft everyday. So yes there Is cases in our primary no idea how many tho.

Neena86 · 10/01/2022 20:17

My secondary age should have gone back to school today, and my primary age tomorrow after their Christmas break (didn't break up until 23rd Dec) Both off with covid 🙃.

thewhatsit · 10/01/2022 20:30

@HelloMist

Why? I was just wondering, partly about how much information schools are sharing with parents. Ours has never given numbers for the whole school (and don't inform parents in other classes until there are a certain number of cases).
We weren’t told much last term. Our school is now publishing online a daily tally for those that are interested.
blameitonthecaffeine · 10/01/2022 20:30

Remarkably few so far.

3 colleagues and about 12-15 pupils.

3-18 school, about 900 pupils.

AgrippinaT · 10/01/2022 20:31

Yeah shit loads. Secondary.
