Plan for people who are CEV?

What is it?

Most of us had our boosters in September and early October.

We know that protection from Omicron is significantly reduced after 10-12 weeks, from a variety of studies.

The government now appears to have decided not to give fourth doses. Surely that means that the most vulnerable people are now ironically the least protected, given most others were vaccinated so much more recently. It's hard to see how we are going to avoid a deluge of CEV people hitting the hospitals. I don't feel confident at all.

(Yes I realise the small number of severely immunosuppressed will get fourth doses, but that isn't the same thing).

We booked for my partner. It asked if immunosuppressed. We clicked yes. Then it asked if this was for third primary or booster. And he chose booster and now its booked. He will still bring proof letter from consultant but was able to book via national system.

@Geom372

Dinosaurwoman I'm on Humira for crohns and had my 4th vaccine this week.
Can I ask please how that happened? That is, who organised it? My GP practice (to whom I've spoken) still claim that don't know what to do and they haven't had the information yet 'for anyone'. (Like you, I'm on Adalimumab.)

I've contacted my local CCG via email but haven't had a response.

you can't 'shield the vulnerable'. We have jobs, families, and need to see doctors, dentists etc. I do my best to be careful but I won't stop my family from education and work. I did stop working because of risk.

it is reasonable to be anxious about mixing with people when 1 in 25 of them have a novel virus which is highly infectious and you have no antibodies and a condition which means you have to take strong immunosuppressants or die

cev are not necessarily frail, or old, or disabled. Most people where I live would think I was healthy. we can be fit too, see transplant games. We are still very vulnerable.

for my condition and drugs, studies have shown about 20-25% mortality with covid, vaccines don't work for us. The treatment roll out so far is haphazard and under pressure, many aren't accessing them within the 5 day window.

To sum up, it's not flu or a cold for us, so please stop misinforming people who are at risk.

SpindleyCrow I had a text message from my gp saying I was booked in for the 4th vaccine on the 7th Jan (91 days after my 3rd). I then had a follow up message saying the government has stopped go practices administratoring vaccines as they want them to now focus on general practice (can't remember exactly how they worded it but they're no longer doing the vaccines). It said to book it at my local vaccination centre. I couldn't book online like I had previously but you can just drop in so I did. I showed them the text from my gp and they did it straight away. Good luck getting yours sorted.

How do your partner’s previous jabs show up in the Covid (travel) pass records?

I have:
Dose 1
Dose 2
Booster dose 3

The “booster dose 3” is actually my 3rd primary.

Thank you, @Geom372, that's really interesting to know.

Btw I'm assuming this is in England? Same for me.

I'm nearly 91 days from my 3rd primary (I'm on a soluble TNF receptor etc) and my GP practice really seems to have no idea.

If I could go into a walk-in vaccine centre that would be great, and I'll keep looking, but right it's all 'booked appointments only' and it won't let me book. Like pp ^^ my 3rd primary shows up on my records as 'The Booster'.

RachC2021 · 08/01/2022 21:10

@Infracat are you in England or elsewhere?

Geom372 · 08/01/2022 21:44

SpindleyCrow yes I'm in Shropshire, they seem to be very on the ball here.

SpindleyCrow · 09/01/2022 08:27

Thanks again, Geom - I'll see if my local CCG has anything to say.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2022 10:06

An update from my end: 119 have been able to sort out a priority testing kit for me.

And frankly anyone who thinks that I should stop my work and my volunteering and hide away from society for the rest of my life, because they hold some sort of moral stance against masks or vaccines can piss off.

That is presumably only the third dose though. Many people who are immunsuppressed are due a fourth dose now but the computer says no if they try to book.

I'm having the same issue. It is very frustrating.
