How can they still say nothing?

So numbers today over 183,000. How can BoJo and his cronies still be making no statement? No clear guidance, nothing. I'm not wanting lockdown or anything but can't believe they're so quiet over all this.

@Lifeisnteasy that isnt NHS Chiefs, it is the head of NHS Providers.
Be wary of who is speaking and what knowledge they actually have.
It is a membership organisation but I cant find any information about how many members they actually have.

Zeebrazebra · 30/12/2021 23:20

Wait til january and brexit hits the fan. When we actually have to check what comes into the country. One big clusterfuck.

StitchInLime · 30/12/2021 23:21

Even if you so want to look at the case numbers (which, as others have said, isn’t always advised), I remember to to 600k cases a day by Xmas day being mentioned as a worrying possibility on an episode of Newscast before Xmas. We didn’t see this. Cases doubling each day was feared too. Again, we haven’t seen this. It’s a LOT less worse than feared so try but to worry.

Oh well England may have a few more tests now courtesy of Welsh Labour Government.

Very good news that the Welsh government is loaning the UK government 4 million tests. A big thank you to Mark Drakeford. But why on earth has the Welsh Labour government managed to plan for the increased demand for tests but the Conservative UK government has not?

We have all trusts in membership, collectively accounting for £87bn of annual expenditure and employing more than one million staff and are the only membership organisation solely dedicated to supporting NHS foundation trusts and trusts.

From their website.

Tealightsandd · 30/12/2021 23:24

Harriet

Because Drakeford is sensible - and is trying to follow the science. (Thank you for the tests Mark).

RoyalFamilyFan · 30/12/2021 23:29

@LittleBearPad so every single health trust is a member? All 223?
That seems at odds with their page on the website about how to join as a member.
As part of my job I check out external organisations. I would have a lot more questions before I accepted this one as legitimately knowing what they are talking about in relation to covid and the NHS.

www.independent.co.uk/news/health/covid-hospital-admissions-peak-nhs-b1984561.html

Prepare for the worst’, NHS bosses warn as Covid hospital admissions set to keep rising for 10 days

Even if some admissions are incidental, and some down to nosocomial spread, all of these will ultimately contribute to significant pressures on the system, and patient outcomes.”

Oh and the latest death figure - 332 is low??

Payitforward55 · 30/12/2021 23:30

I totally agree with you. It's depressing

That’s up to you. Who cares

It's encouraging that the peak in hospitalisations is expected in only 10 days!

RoyalFamilyFan · 30/12/2021 23:35

Okay NHS PRoviders claims 90% of Trusts as members. The two things they seem to do is

 1. Run training and conferences
 2. Support Trusts in negotiation with the Department of Health.

Two important functions. But I am not sure what gives them the authority to declare that the NHS can cope with covid? And the article implies that it is the chiefs of the NHS directly saying this, when it clearly is not.

RoyalFamilyFan · 30/12/2021 23:36

@LittleBearPad you don't care if someone who says the NHS can cope has the knowledge to be able to assert that?
Okay now I know you don't care about the truth.

Will the Medical Director of the NHS do as an alternative?

Record Covid case numbers were reported in the UK on Wednesday and NHS medical director Prof Stephen Powis said the service was on a "war footing". Prof Powis said the NHS "cannot wait to find out before we act" given the number of infections and uncertainty about Omicron's severity.

Cissyandflora · 30/12/2021 23:40

@ChloeDecker

Today’s figures are not as high today because barely anyone could get a test yesterday-no walk ins, no drive throughs and PCRs sent to homes all out. This is in London.
That is exactly it. Numbers would be huge if everyone tested. There is a shortage of tests in London. This has been since a week before Christmas where I live.
Payitforward55 · 30/12/2021 23:42

I think BJ is waiting for Carrie to recover from giving birth so she can tell him what to say 😁

AnnieSnap · 30/12/2021 23:45

332 deaths today

Lol.

You don’t think it’s just possible that the organisation that claims 90% of NHS trusts as members (you got that from Wikipedia btw) might have spoken to some CEOs etc of NHS trusts and therefore has a view on the overall picture…

Lifeisnteasy · 30/12/2021 23:49

@Tealightsandd around 450 people die every day from heart disease. I don’t think it’s ‘low’ but neither is it staggeringly high, it isn’t Ebola or the bubonic plague.

Cissyandflora · 30/12/2021 23:49

@LittleBearPaddud you just lol?

LittleBearPad · 30/12/2021 23:50

@AnnieSnap

332 deaths today
Which includes delays from over Christmas. Yes it’s not good but you can’t exclude the context.
Lifeisnteasy · 30/12/2021 23:51

That’s quite a good thing. Missed diagnoses wouldn’t change the hospital admission or ventilation rate - if even more people have covid than the official numbers, it means the virus death rate is lower than stated.

LittleBearPad · 30/12/2021 23:51
@LittleBearPaddud you just lol?
Yes I did. Because the poster is being silly.

Hospedia · 30/12/2021 23:51

Even over five days, that's an aversge of 66 a day.

Lifeisnteasy · 30/12/2021 23:54

@Hospedia

Even over five days, that's an aversge of 66 a day.
A tenth of the number of people dying from heart disease each day.

A tenth of the number of people dying from cancer each day.

A bad flu year sees 30,000 deaths, even if we didn’t concentrate them in winter that would be 82 deaths a day.

We need perspective.
