Work sending messages pleading for help

My work has sent out an email this morning pleading for help today. I expect it will be
Like this for a few weeks now.

It's not an essential service likely but if my Work is doing it how are the essential services going to cope

This is why I think we will
End up with some restrictions soon.

But, as you say, neither here nor there. The ONS was working from the assumption that 1.4 to 1.6m had covid on Christmas Eve. I think the only useful metric is what is happening - and what is going to happen - in hospital admissions.

SheikhMaraca · 29/12/2021 20:37

The point is, it’s irrelevant how many cases we have.

People are not becoming seriously Ill, hence it’s just not an important metric any more.

@Covidworries

I was told 180k in France and 183k in Uk Not an official source for France so may be wrong either way both countries are still going upwards so neither on a good place
You were 'told' wrong.

France's rates have been higher than Britain's for two days running.

Not that it really matters. It's not a football match. But if you're going to make claims, then doing some cursory research before posting would be a good idea.

notimagain · 29/12/2021 21:46

Just to provide some context FWIW we have indeed had two horribly high days figures in France but there are thoughts at least some of that was down to a frankly unusual/atypical rush for testing by the mostly asymptomatic at Pharmacies/Labs just prior to family gatherings at Christmas, (Pharmacies in particular were complaining of being overwhelmed 23rd/24th)..

There is then the usual issue of here of it taking the system several days to collate and publish the data….today’s figures could be a sum of the parts of several days..

There’s no doubt the situation isn’t great but those who insist on comparing figures with France and other countries will probably need to see how the daily figures for the next couple of days work out/look at the rolling seven day average which is available on some websites.

@icedpurple

Get off your high horse. I was posting to the person who said we didnt need restrictions because France was worse. The point being its a shit show in both countries.

@sheikhmaraca

While we hope people wont get serious illness. Hospitalisations are rising and it will be a week till we know the imact of todays 180k plus cases on hospitalisation.

IcedPurple · 29/12/2021 21:51

No. You made a specific claim. That Britain's rates were higher than France's. That claim was incorrect, as you could very easily have found out before posting. Pointing that out isn't being on a 'high horse'.

The point being its a shit show in both countries

I agree. But that's not the point I was responding to.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/12/2021 21:52

The number of patients in intensive care in France seems huge, Notimagain. Has there been a swift uptick?

Really tell that to my mum, oh wait you can’t she died of it. Also I didn’t have it mild last week, I was very ill indeed, still breathless now and I usually shake off a cold in a day or 2, I’m in my mid 30’s and I’m generally fitter than average.

All these people “this is a mild variant” yes until it mutates again and becomes a deadly variant, and how does it mutate, through continual transmission.
