My Christmas is cancelled

TooTiredForThis2 · 19/12/2021 01:45

My husband tested positive.

I cant tell you how much I needed this Christmas. The one time of the year where all of my family and family friends make eachother a priority so that we are together. I hate this. We cant get an online shop because slots are full, and we don't own a car.

OP posts:
AD80 · 19/12/2021 07:03

Sorry to hear this op. As it stands if you are double jabbed and negative with no symptoms so you can go to the shop.

You can also try checking for slots constantly. They do come up - even Christmas week. Asda still has slots where I live.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 19/12/2021 07:07

It's rubbish isn't it? DD has tested positive too. I managed to get to the shops already as I'm double jabbed but Iceland are emailing daily to say they have opened up more slots. Or if you want to go in person but not risk a taxi could you walk and make several trips?

Belledan1 · 19/12/2021 07:12

Have you tried iceland.

boomboom1234 · 19/12/2021 07:13

Yes Iceland release slots each day so worth a try.

Tipsylizard · 19/12/2021 07:20

Sorry to hear it! It is shit timing Angry.

Could you out something out on your street WhatsApp (if you have one) or your local facebook page and ask for help? Or your.local Church? If someone asked me I would be happy to help.

As long as you are double jabbed you don’t have to self isolate if you are in England

SkyLarkDescending · 19/12/2021 07:22

Ahh I'm sorry OP. This is all soul destroying isn't it.

Some things to try:
Uber eats grocery delivery
Deliveroo grocery delivery
Hello fresh/Gousto or other meal delivery service
Your local Facebook page - there are often offers of help for people isolating on ours.
Local church or foodbank may be able to organise a delivery to you.
I hope you manage to have an enjoyable Christmas.

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 19/12/2021 07:25

You haven't tested positive op, so you can go and get shopping etc surely ?

Huy456 · 19/12/2021 07:25

Try your local fb group, there will be local shops doing delivery, or people willing to do it for you ( you could even offer to pay them)
Also for non fresh stuff try 'bother'

Also try online butcher's like Pipers farm

Huy456 · 19/12/2021 07:26

Oh yes, and you don't have to isolate so you can go shopping if none of these pan out.

If you want to avoid indoor places at least get some fresh air.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 19/12/2021 07:27

@Monkeytapper

I thought this too if it is Delta - unless it is Omicron and then you have to isolate ?

OP hasn’t said which variant it is .

catwomandoo · 19/12/2021 07:27

I don't think you have to isolate unless you have tested positive?

From the gov website

"If you live with or have been in contact with someone with COVID-19, you will not need to self-isolate if any of the following apply:
• you're fully vaccinated – this means 14 days have passed since your final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine given by the NHS
• you're under 18 years and 6 months old
• you're taking part or have taken part in an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial
• you're not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons
"

So, if you are fully jabbed you can make a dash for provisions. But to be sensible and not infect others you'd need to minimise risk to your fellow shoppers (hospital grade mask, hand sanitiser, go early morning/ eve to avoid crowds).

I'm so sorry to,hear this though. You must be really fed up.

SunshineCake1 · 19/12/2021 07:28

Could you ring the supermarket directly and ask if they can help?

Sturmundcalm · 19/12/2021 07:35

have you checked if you have a co-op near enough you that delivers? their service is closer to the deliveroo/uber eats/corner shop type service but still gives you a decent range.

there is a website that arranges for support if you need it - which i think a lot more folk will this week because of the lack of delivery slots! can't remember it offhand but you should find it on some of the covid info/help pages.

phishy · 19/12/2021 07:40

As you don’t have Covid, you don’t have to isolate if you’ve had your vaccination?

Have you got one of those shopping trolley? It’s a pin but could you go shopping by bus and get it all in a couple of trips to the supermarket?

Flobbertybillop · 19/12/2021 07:48

@Mybalconyiscracking really! She could pass it onto someone vulnerable, stupid suggestion.

airforsharon · 19/12/2021 07:48

@EachandEveryone

Absolutely try Iceland. They have some lovely stuff in I dont know why its not more popular. Their wine isnt bad either.
I'm seeing the Iceland home delivery van round here more than any others at the moment, they've become very popular. I'm wondering if OP is somewhere rural, hence it's not easy for her to go shopping alone as she doesn't drive & taxis might be thin on the ground. If that's the case & means many delivery options such as apps & takeaways won't work, i'd second local resources such as church & farm shop. And there's every possibility a neighbour will help even if they don't know each other well - i certainly would.
TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 19/12/2021 07:53

Sorry to hear that OP.

Are you in a Gettir area? They'd deliver a shop. Also, Uber eats/deliveroo usually have a Co-Op on their app to order from.

A message on your local Facebook group may help too.
It's shit.
I hope you feel better soon.

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 19/12/2021 07:54

Take a lateral flow and assuming you're not positive and vaccinated you're technically allowed to go and do a shop. I'm in the same boat. Husband is positive and ours is cancelled too. You need to lateral flow daily but you might not catch it.

SamMil · 19/12/2021 07:54

We're in the club too! Husband already has it and I've just tested positive. Our family have flown over to stay with us for Christmas too! Stupid Covid Confused

OnGoldenPond · 19/12/2021 07:55

I'm pretty sure you are allowed to go out to buy food if you have no one to do it for you and no delivery slots available so I would book click and collect in a taxi as the best option available.

Sorry this happened, it's pretty shit. I tested positive a couple of days ago and now confined to the spare room. Going to be a long 10 days. Beginning to see why solitary confinement is classed as cruel and unusual punishment. Sad

Laurel1 · 19/12/2021 07:57

Amazon do delivery with prime!

Laurel1 · 19/12/2021 07:57

Sorry I meant with Morrison's!

OnGoldenPond · 19/12/2021 07:58

Actually, as you have not yet tested positive you are still free to go where you like. Get straight down to the shops and get a big shop in by taxi and get out and get everything else you need straight away.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 19/12/2021 07:59

If I were you, I would email the supermarkets and tell them of your predicament. They might make a slot available for you.
I was in a similar situation for my husband’s birthday last year and Ocado replied and gave me a slot.
I’ve remained loyal to them every since and shop with them every week.

Also, Amazon have teamed up with Morrisons so you could get their stuff delivered x
