My Christmas is cancelled

My husband tested positive.

I cant tell you how much I needed this Christmas. The one time of the year where all of my family and family friends make eachother a priority so that we are together. I hate this. We cant get an online shop because slots are full, and we don't own a car.

OP posts:
GatoradeMeBitch · 19/12/2021 02:35

If it helps Iceland still seem to have a decent lot of delivery slots - in my area anyway, I don't know where you are. Not the poshest fare, but it should kit you out, and they do fruit and veg these days too.

Member589500 · 19/12/2021 02:36

Honestly unless you live in a really weird and/or isolated area your neighbours will step up. Do you have any local groups?
I know it’s not just about the shopping and I’m sorry Sad

@TooTiredForThis2 try Ocado OP. I know they can be expensive but once when we were isolating and couldn’t get our normal Tesco slot, we looked on Ocado and there were loads free for the next day. We just got their own branded stuff to knock the price down a little. Sometimes they do offers on your first shop too.
Ariann · 19/12/2021 02:49

Iceland has some wonderful Christmas food. Slots for the next day - even in the lockdown. I don't bother with Tesco or the others any more now.
Search for ''Luxury" in the search bar on their site as well. Some lovely stuff - better than Tesco top range.

Albless · 19/12/2021 03:12

OP, I’m a Parish Minister. If you contact your local church they’ll be able to help.

StampOnTheGround · 19/12/2021 03:31

If you are testing negative then can't you go to the shop?

MiniPumpkin · 19/12/2021 03:32

So sorry op, check Tesco around 8.30/9am for slots, im sure they come on in the morning

Youaremypenguin · 19/12/2021 03:34

@RavingAnnie

Are you fully vaccinated? Is it Omicron?

If you can I'd get out to the shop now before you catch it and have to isolate.

If that's not an option, is there anyone you can ask to do a shop for you?

This! Do as much as you can now to prepare for the inevitable. Do it today (Sunday). If the press rumours are mildly accurate we're about to face further restrictions. Check all delivery services including Iceland/local shops/click and collect/just eat and deliveroo. Look for community groups/church groups/local shops and message them for help now.

There is help out there op but you might need to be pro active in finding it. You could post on Facebook for your area and ask for guidance.

RoxieHart5678 · 19/12/2021 03:49

So sorry to hear this..Try Iceland, they still have slots where I am(Norfolk) worth a try and if you have local milk and more that may be worth a try to.

Meadowblossom · 19/12/2021 04:45

OP if it’s your husband who has tested positive, you can do a daily LFT, and if negative you can go to the shops.
If it helps you get some perspective, my dad died earlier this week, I was due to collect him next week to stay with us, his presents are still sat under my tree - so your Christmas sounds pretty ok compared to mine.

Newjobnewstart · 19/12/2021 05:07

If op is in Scotland she has to isolate too.
Try deliveroo or phone your local supermarket and explain the situation they may be able to help even with essentials.

pompomsgalore · 19/12/2021 05:10

Are you in your local Facebook community page?

I'd post on there asking if there are volunteers in the area. People are desperate to help others at this time of year and generally through Covid.

Everyone on this thread would be happy to help you I bet! You just need to find someone local.

Porcupineintherough · 19/12/2021 05:32

Um OP can just go to the shops as long as her lateral flow is negative. So I'd suggest she does this today.

StruggleStreet · 19/12/2021 05:58

Sorry OP. We’re in a similar position, my DH tested positive yesterday. Were supposed to be travelling to stay with my family from Wednesday so we’ll have to miss that, and will no doubt be in some kind of lockdown by the time the isolation period ends. Gutted to have to miss it again this year, my mum was so looking forward to seeing her grandkids at Christmas.

Do you have to isolate too? I don’t have symptoms and am doing daily LFTs so don’t have to so will be able to go out and get supplies if needed, although will try not to. Deliveroo does a grocery delivery service around here so thats another option to look at.

thaegumathteth · 19/12/2021 06:35

@Meadowblossom she can't if she's in Scotland

Also I'm really genuinely sorry for your loss but it's not a competition, people can be sad or worried or lonely without it being minimised because someone else has it 'worse'.

lanbro · 19/12/2021 06:40

Do you use Amazon? You can get a Morrisons or Fresh delivery, I'm getting them daily at the moment for my business. Same day delivery, free if you spend over £40

TheVampiresWife · 19/12/2021 06:40

We were like this in the summer, isolating but with no family or friends to help. It must be unimaginably harder at Christmas, when you had lovely plans. I'm so sorry, OP.

Do you have GoPuff near you? It's a new delivery service but it's quite limited in the areas it covers. First three deliveries are half price too.

Is there a community help page on Facebook which covers your area?

Other than that, takeaways most nights?

I hope you still are able to have a decent Christmas just you and DH.

Mybalconyiscracking · 19/12/2021 06:41

If you are negative put on a bloody mask, wash your hands and go to the shop. Don’t touch anything you’re not going to buy and stay away from people as much as possible. Sanitise your trolley afterwards.
This is getting ridiculous now!

Cattitudes · 19/12/2021 06:41

Are there any farm shops near you who do deliveries? I would pop this question on your local Facebook page and see what people suggest / volunteer to help.

I’m sorry. :( I would suggest you get a taxi, if possible, and get to the shops ASAP. How do you usually get shopping? Take care

SleepingStandingUp · 19/12/2021 06:47

Possibly already mentioned but Amazon will deliver food from Morrisons

MaverickSnoopy · 19/12/2021 06:48

Oh no OP. I'm so sorry to hear this. Can you get a slot with Iceland? I find if everywhere else is booked then they usually have slots. Also Coop.

If you're local to me I will bring you things. Post on a local Facebook group asking for help. People will help and its that time of year when you'll get lots of offers.

EachandEveryone · 19/12/2021 06:48

Absolutely try Iceland. They have some lovely stuff in I dont know why its not more popular. Their wine isnt bad either.

someoneseatenmyapple · 19/12/2021 07:00

When I had Covid, track and trace called every day asking if I needed anything. You could try giving them a ring. They have volunteers doing shopping for people. Also try your local church as they also have people helping out with shopping etc too.
