NO WAY!

Every shop/store/business/hotel/office/cafe etc etc needs to refuse to comply.

EVERYONE needs to refuse to comply. EVERYONE.

How fucking DARE the government even DARE to suggest this, when they broke every rule they made? I am fucking fuming. Angry

Enzbear · 18/12/2021 17:00

Hmmm your friends in the NHS mustn’t be frontline staff then.
Wrong!
Midwife, three nurses and a hospital doctor.

@Kennykenkencat as this FullFact article says, we need to look at the percentages of people needing critical care, and the biggest number by far needing this are unvaccinated;

You do realise that covid affects people, not a government don't you? If it didn't kill people and make them ill, I'd be all for your suggestions, but in reality, if people/businesses did what you say, all that would happen is a lot more people would die.
jgw1 · 18/12/2021 17:03

@thedefinitionofmadness

We don't need a strategy based on lockdowns We need a fit for purpose health infrastructure and service with sufficient resources and capacity to deal with a WHOLE NEW DISEASE THAT ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE That and more energy into anti-viral research and development
Luckily we have £350million a week extra for the NHS this year, I read it on the side of a bus.
LittleRoundRobin · 18/12/2021 17:07

So what?

Everyone needs to refuse to lock down! EVERYONE.

We can't keep having fucking lockdowns every time there is a new variant FFS!

I agree 👍

drainitallout · 18/12/2021 17:09

@Badbadbunny just what you said. Ok, we all know that the government has fucked up are are a bunch of useless hypocritical Cnuts. But then having a party last year does not have one iota of an impact on the virus now, on it mutating and how quickly it's spreading. People stamping their feet saying "well they did it so so shall we" doesn't mean their families and close contacts are safer at at party than if BoJo and his friends hadnt behaved terribly last year. The virus DOES NOT care how they behaved. Look at the science, get an understanding of exponential growth and of a small percentage of a very big number is a big number.

From latest ICNARC report

“The percentage of patients admitted to critical care with confirmed COVID-19 that were unvaccinated decreased from 75% in May 2021 to 48% in November 2021 (Figure 27), consistent with the decreasing proportion of the general population who were unvaccinated.”

It makes me wonder of the vaccines are providing a lot less protection than previously thought? I ve seen the stats and I know it's 'better than nothing ' and I've had them all , but there is such a big push for the boosters and they have admitted that the protection does wear off. Maybe there are things they are not telling us? Vaccine escape with Omnicron must be worse than they originally thought ( maybe ? )
If the vaccinated are ending up in hospital or die, then something isn't right and will only add fuel to the anti vaxxers arguments too?
I know that this vaccine isn't full proof against catching it, but there will be another roll out in the spring and will people be willing to go for it ?
So many questions! Something feels off and I'm not an anti vaxxer at all.
It'll be so sad if there is a circuit breaker. Devastating really especially for small businesses too. We need a strong economy to fund the NHS. It's all so shit

And look at how SA cases have peaked already in some places and how hospitalisations decreased by 91% without any additional restrictions.

@Enzbear

LittleRoundRobin I agree 👍
Me too 👍
WonderfulYou · 18/12/2021 17:14

Most people in hospital are double jabbed compared to the unvaccinated

No most hospitalisations of covid are of the unvaccinated.
But you can still go to hospital with covid if you are vaccinated, it’s just rarer.

WonderfulYou · 18/12/2021 17:15

So what other options are there?

SueSaid · 18/12/2021 17:16

'Whitty made it clear at the last press conference that the data coming from SA is not robust. He stopped short of being rude on TV but if you saw what he said, he made it very clear that there are possible flaws in the SA data which is why he doesn't want to use it as the basis for decisions in the UK.'

This.

Chris Whitty has always been absolutely straight with the public. I've no idea how that one SA Dr has been given airtime, data needs to be robust. Yes hearing it's mild in SA is lovely but with our old, fat, unhealthy UK pop in the middle of winter it may not be the same scenario at all. Surely being cautious until we know is a good idea.

@Badbadbunny So you're OK with accepting these restrictions, every winter? And that we all have to as well? With the immense costs that go with this?

DottyHarmer · 18/12/2021 17:18

MOST PEOPLE IN HOSPITAL WITH COVID ARE UNVACCINATED !!!

Those who are vaccinated are overwhelmingly elderly.

France will be announcing further measures against the unvaccinated in January, as their inaction is unfair to the majority of the public.

@WonderfulYou

I believe that the CEV people should be supported to isolate as much as possible. The rest of us need to get on with it.

There's also wider use of vaccine passports. Then there's mandatory vaccinations.

And I don't think people of a certain age who're seriously ill should be on ventilators.

I’d be interested to know how many deaths per day are acceptable to you if we weren’t to have restrictions?
Receptionclass · 18/12/2021 17:21

I'm not complying any more. Obviously I can't access services which are shut, I mean for anything that I can have control over.

AD80 · 18/12/2021 17:23

Remember when it was just gonna be '3 weeks' in March/April 2020 🤯

I'm not dismissing that the cases are scarily high and the worry of omicron and the nhs but surely we've learnt that lockdowns are not the answer. Yes they bring the numbers down but then numbers go back up. We can't do that forever. It's also detrimental to businesses.

paranoidnamechanger · 18/12/2021 17:24

I’d be interested to know how many deaths per day are acceptable to you if we weren’t to have restrictions?

I don't know, I'd have to think about that properly. But like I've said many times on here, trying to save everyone isn't doing us any favours in the long run. It's like we (generally) have forgotten that death is part of the circle of life.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/12/2021 17:24

Every shop/store/business/hotel/office/cafe etc etc needs to refuse to comply

There was a Leicester poster during the first lockdown who reported that areas of the city were doing exactly that - something I believed since areas of mine (also east midlands) were doing the same

The more we comply, the more restrictions we’ll get if we follow what’s going on in other countries. There’ll be more boosters, vaccine mandates and mandates for kids.

@AlwaysLatte

I would be ready to murder Melodramatic! Hmm
That's cos I'm an actor, see.

Hence so much of my frustration with bastarding, sodding, fucking lockdowns.
