This Christmas and New year.

Let’s do this ting.

OP posts:
Oldtiredfedup · 16/12/2021 19:23

One of the best years of my life

UnsolicitedDickPic · 16/12/2021 19:24

I drank so much whiskey and smoked so many cigars that I saw in the New Year puking and spent the next two days hungover. I'm in! 😃

RoRoYoYo · 16/12/2021 19:24

NYE 1999. I was half the size I am now! We celebrated in Brighton with thousands of other people in the streets. The atmosphere was incredible. All the phone networks were too busy around midnight so you couldn't send any text messages.

I remember sitting on the beach and seeing the sun come up and it really did feel like a new era was starting. I then had to hotfoot it back to London and go into work NYD afternoon and test all the systems to make sure the millennium bug hadn't hit!

AutumnAlmanack · 16/12/2021 19:24

The happiest of times! I had gone to bed early but my mother woke me up at 11.30 and we drank a bottle of Rose Champagne together. Miss her so much.

My goodness, this made me well up a bit. 🥺

AutumnAlmanack · 16/12/2021 19:28

And I got paid X3 to go in on New Year's Day to turn on all the PCs in my Department to make sure they worked. Money for old rope.

PollyIndia · 16/12/2021 19:30

I was in rio nye 1999 having an absolute ball.
Having just had covid, I’d love a chance to party like that but everything’s bloody cancelling

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 16/12/2021 19:32

I spent that NYE at my nans! (I was 11)

Winterlude · 16/12/2021 19:32

I have absolutely no memory of NYE 1999. I was 24 at the time, and defo went out but it's a complete blank. It annoys me that I can't remember it!

Theonlyoneiknow · 16/12/2021 19:38

I can remember this so clearly! I was in Nepal with my boyfriend at the time. I had severe food poisoning and was lying in bed very very unwell, sipping pear juice whilst fireworks went off outside with Mount Everest in the distance .... I can see me now puking ... !

wonderstuff123 · 16/12/2021 19:40

So in. I was 18. Went out on the 30th with a friend, got absolutely wankered. Then headed down to London with mum and sister on train, hungover. Walked around most of the night in central London, didn't see the famous wall of fire on he Thames, was so cold and ended up back at Euston station at 4am waiting for our train home.

I hated it at the time but look back on it fondly now, great memories made actually. Take me back in a heartbeat.

Cuddlywaterfall · 16/12/2021 19:41

Omg. I was young slim and gorgeous Grin. My parents had a fancy black tie party which was ace although my mother was coming down with that awful flu. She partied hard though GrinGrin. We all waited for the world to end because of Y2K then when it didn't we just got more drunk. Aaahhh. I had just started my career and was very naive. God the shite I put up with! Not any more but I'm probably classified as a battleaxe these days!

Paddingtonthebear · 16/12/2021 19:41

I remember my hangover of NYE 1999 very well Grin

thetinsoldier · 16/12/2021 19:44

@KnitFastDieWarm - that is a lovely post!

britneyisfree · 16/12/2021 19:45

Ahhh I turned 13 ten days after. I called myself a millennium teenager Blush

I will be partying like it's 99 as I've got a Dc now so l will be at home like I was then. I will try and party it up a bit Grin

sm40 · 16/12/2021 19:47

Worst night out! Went to parliament square and we all though we were going to die in the crush. Couldn't get a drink/do a wee. Phones didn't work, lost each other after midnight. Never ever done a central London nye since.
Nye of 2000 though. Worst hangover ever.....

Pumpkinstace · 16/12/2021 19:48

I have a bottle of Vodka Source. Apple flavour.

Firefliess · 16/12/2021 19:52

I was 39 weeks pregnant with DC1 so had very low expectations of that night. Spent it with in-laws watching fireworks along the coast which was actually quite nice. So not much of a piss up, though did certainly feel like the start of a new era with parenthood looming.

RagzReturnedUnwrapped · 16/12/2021 19:54

House party in the middle of the Welsh Valleys. Dancing on top of some speakers to Slayer. Being given a blim of hash to eat by some friend of my Mum's boyfriend. Waking up to a house of sleeping hungover adults and deciding to drink the leftover alcohol. My cocktails got more adventurous until a pint of Lilt, red wine, vodka and Stella saw me off and I woke up the next day (2nd) at home.
I was 14, but it was a great party!

BlueShirtGirl · 16/12/2021 19:55

Yes yes yes!!! Bloody loved NYE! Got my tee total parents to meet me and my mates in town, we all danced in the street, singing and hugging everyone! It was absolutely amazing especially as my mums no longer with us. Best pictures ever!! I am in!!!

LizzieSiddal · 16/12/2021 19:56

Me Dh and 2DDs all had the flu. It was absolutely dreadful, never felt so I’ll in my life- a complete wash out!

HighlandCowbag · 16/12/2021 20:03

I went to local pub, ticketed for regulars only, with my then on/off boyfriend. Am happily married now, but he was always very special to me, and me to him I think. In another life maybe.

He's married and divorced and in a ltr now. But whenever someone mentions 1999 nye I always think of him and suspect he does me, usually get a happy new year message via fb on nyd at some point. Very fond memories, I wore boot cut trousers with a subtle sparkle and vest top from Oasis, plus a longish grey coat and suede gloves and very high sandals. I was Business Spice Grin.

Contactmap · 16/12/2021 20:05

Ballgown skirts with cashmere jumpers.

OrangeBananaFish · 16/12/2021 20:10

I was 20 and celebrated with my Uni mates in Manchester. Can't remember too much about the actual night though, but I don't think I've done anything on NYE since. Nothing as good anyway.

Hoping to change that this year as we have a family break to Butlins booked (as long as Boris doesn't close everything anyway) and I am so excited. Just had my negative PCR result today so going to make the most of it again this year.

One question though. I was 20 so why the fuck have I got no idea what hair mascara is/was? I think I want some. Sounds fabulous

TrufflyPig · 16/12/2021 20:16

I was 14 and went to party in my Nans house, got proper dressed up though: purple velour mini dress and black glitter wedges (from Dolcis!), crimped my hair.

I was allowed a few archers and lemonades too! Good Times.
