PAAAAAAARTYYY

Kittykatmadness · 16/12/2021 18:46

I remember the 2000 bug, the whole family had tickets to a do, such buzz in the air, my parents hosted a pre party then took me next door for the neighbour to babysit me.

I had no idea I wasn’t going until I was dropped at the neighbours door. The biggest tantrum followed that I passed out asleep in her hallway.

I’m still mad at it now. I think that’s what they call a core memory.

KnitFastDieWarm · 16/12/2021 18:47

If we’re talking NYE nostalgia, can we also take a jaunt back to December 31st 2008? I was early 20s, newly single, and flirting my way round the Edinburgh street party with a can of carling in hand. After exiting a crap relationship, the whole world and my entire adult life seemed to be stretching out before me that night. I still remember the spine-tingling excitement and thrill of meeting new people, dancing till dawn, watching the fireworks at the bells, and tipsily snogging various reprobates Grin

Reader, I married one of those reprobates, and have spent every December 31st since then with the very same group of people, watching hogmanay fireworks and recapturing a little bit of that boundless potential and excitement I felt back on that first night 13 years ago.

Hair mascara needs to come back, it was brilliant stuff, gold was my colour of choice.

My boyfriend got paid loads for working that night then, when nothing happened at midnight was able to meet me at the party and paaaarty!

Sandsnake · 16/12/2021 18:50

I was 16 and spent it at my one of my parents’ legendary parties that went on until 9am! At 0630 we all went to the beach to have bacon butties and watch the sun come up. My then boyfriend of two months came along and was shocked by how fun my parents were. We’ve now been married 14 years and have two kids (and are nowhere near as fun as them!😂).

@GoldenOmber

ALightThatNeverGoesOut · 16/12/2021 18:51

Dancing on Waterloo bridge with a bunch of friends and a bottle of champagne snogging strangers then everyone saying was that the river of fire then LOL.

bluetongue · 16/12/2021 18:52

@JuneOsborne

Metallic dresses. I was so normally thin in 1999. Sigh. If I out a metallic skin tight dress in tonight my husband would ask why is dressed as the Christmas turkey! (I had just started seeing him in 1999! We've been married 20 years. Top bloke)
God I’d kill to have my 1999 figure back. Was too skinny, awkward and flat chested as a teenager but me in my early 20’s had perky b cup boobs and just the right amount of hips. Plus I could eat whatever I wanted and it made no difference.

Happy times

Rave in North London somewhere then straight into work for 9am.
Couldn't do it now, I'm normally abed by 10pm 🤣

HariboMaroon · 16/12/2021 18:54

I was 11 and wore a black sequinned dress. House party at my uncles! Danced all night to spice girls/oasis/90s club classics.

My father had left the home shortly before that New Year’s Eve so I was certainly feeling the party spirit.

Good times! 😁

MincePieIceCream · 16/12/2021 18:58

I was slim and gorgeous and also wearing a metallic dress [grin and ridiculous heels and dancing to garage music at some dive in south London. I think I went to bed at midday on New Year’s Day, probably incredibly coked up and full of champagne.

‘‘Twas fun, but fuck that shit now! I can’t even be arsed to stay up until midnight, covid or no covid.

Might crack out the Prince record on NYE, though Wink

AgeingDoc · 16/12/2021 18:58

I was working. I was the most senior junior doctor on duty in a big city centre teaching hospital and it was manically busy. We didn't even notice that we were in the new millenium until about 2 or 3am.
It was a night I will never forget, but not entirely for good reasons. I'd happily have a lot about those days back though, especially the hope and enthusiasm gor the future.

Namechange600 · 16/12/2021 19:07

I was on Westminster bridge- we blagged our way on and watched the fireworks and laughable river of fire. Left my wallet in a pub in lewisham. It was still there when we went back! Happy days 😂😂

Jasmine00 · 16/12/2021 19:10

Whose got my dream matte mousse and iridecant flares!! And my 10 Club king-size!!

Babyroobs · 16/12/2021 19:13

Living in Auckland, with Ds1 four months old. Went down to the harbour to see the fireworks, great night, great atmosphere.

helpfulperson · 16/12/2021 19:14

Sober in case all the work we had done on Y2K wasn't enough. Actually it's a good example of the worst case scenario not being realised but people not understanding that that was because of the amount of work done behind the scenes.

ILoveHuskies · 16/12/2021 19:16

I'm in !

NYE 1999, I was 19. It was the most hotly anticipated night I'd ever known. Spent the day in the hairdressers getting my hair bleached and hair extensions

Then Me and a car full of mates went to rock city in Nottingham. Got home at 7am. Oh the memories

Doidontimmm · 16/12/2021 19:16

I was at Edinburgh castle watching Texas live then the Edinburgh street party. Amazing!

ILoveHuskies · 16/12/2021 19:16

@Burnamer

Are you actually suggesting people pay no attention to covid or is there some kind of joke I’m missing?
Bore off
ILoveHuskies · 16/12/2021 19:17

Oh and I wore a leopard print bra, denim hot pants and white furry boots

I wish I still had that figure ha

SilverRingahBells · 16/12/2021 19:18

I wore a tiny silver hologram dress from Benetton of all places. DD now looks lovely in it.

SilverRingahBells · 16/12/2021 19:19

I'm sheltering in place until Boxing Day when I kiss goodbye to the last of a succession of elderly and vulnerable relative, at which point I'm planning to go to theatres, cinemas, restaurants, pubs, and a big New Year party.

Faircastle · 16/12/2021 19:19

I was 7 months pregnant and DH was at work (in A&E). I think I'll have a better time this year.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/12/2021 19:22

Christmas / New Year 1999 I had my tiny PFB son.
I was like one of the Walking Dead !
