Cinemas not following the rules

If you are cautious about covid I would advise against Vue cinemas at the moment.

We went at an early showing and booked extra seats to keep some distance. It was awful. No signs up about masks required and I would estimate 75% didn't bother. A few clearly had flu/covid and were coughing and spluttering everywhere. Staff weren't interested in the slightest. Some teenagers were making a point of coughing as they thought it was hilarious. A few including us walked out because of how bad it was.

It's no wonder we are in this mess. To be honest I hope they shut them again.

I think if you are still at the stage of booking extra seats to stay safe it’s probably not the place for you

ThrobbingToothacheOfTheMind · 16/12/2021 17:28

Yes, I hope they shut down businesses and lots of people lose their jobs. That will teach people not to annoy you.

IcedPurple · 16/12/2021 17:31

A few including us walked out because of how bad it was.

Sure you did.

And how was the film? Assuming you saw any of it in between estimating the number of people wearing masks and flouncing out.

littlepeas · 16/12/2021 17:31

You booked extra seats to keep people away from you?

I think you should probably just stay at home op.

Giveaschitt · 16/12/2021 17:34

Sounds like it was the people in the cinema "not following the rules" rather than Vue themselves...
And yes, as others have said, if you're that cautious that you're booking extra seats, it's probably not the place for you right now.
And decidedly nasty of you to wish people out of jobs.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/12/2021 17:36

Don't go then but don't be so cavalier about wanting people to be out of a job.

ceeveebee · 16/12/2021 17:39

Do you actuakky think that leaving an extra seat between you and a positive person in a closed, unventilated space for 2 hours would stop you catching an airborne virus?

PinkSpring · 16/12/2021 17:41

You realise that you don't have to wear a mask in the cinema if you are eating and drinking? So most people sit down and take them off for the movie as they will be snacking. I am going on Saturday and I am not wearing a mask once I sit down.

If you are that worried about covid, I suggest you don't go to the cinema at the moment - or any other busy indoor setting....

That's what I was going to say
Elfonthesofa · 16/12/2021 17:43

Not been for a while then OP? Hmm

It's been like that for ages.

SquirtleSquad · 16/12/2021 17:43

Any one that concerned about covid isn't going on a jolly to the cinema. Ridiculous.

Akire · 16/12/2021 17:44

It’s like going coffee shop or pub people can take masks off to eat and no social distancing. Either you are 100% comfy or stay at home. Would be cold day in hell before I sit next someone with cough week before Xmas!

Lazypuppy · 16/12/2021 17:44

😂😂

Tittyfilarious81 · 16/12/2021 17:45

I don't believe a word of it

Fallagain · 16/12/2021 17:45

I can’t imagine many people with flu wanting to go to the cinema.

Bubblty · 16/12/2021 17:47

Teenagers have always been annoying in cinemas

Bobholll · 16/12/2021 17:49

Get a grip for the love of god. I think if you need to buy extra seats to be ‘safe’, you probably should just skip going to the cinema. 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

IcedPurple · 16/12/2021 17:49

I can't decide whether it was the 'booking extra seats' or the dramatic flouncing out which did it for me.
SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 16/12/2021 18:06

I used to work in a cinema and OP there was a good chance that the seat you were sat on and the arms rests/drinks holder had dried vomit/urine/jizz on it too.

It is not the staff or cinemas fault. Staff are on minimum wage and just working to make ends meet. Give them a fucking break

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 18:07

staff weren't interested?? what did they say when you complained then?

You get paid fo you each month working from home ? Yep? Not going to lose your house as can't pay the mortgage ? Stay at home op
Tigerwhocameforsupper · 16/12/2021 18:11

A cough isn’t even a sign of covid for most people now! And if someone really had flu it’s very unlikely they would be able to sit in a cinema.

Possibly you sat near some people with a cold, it’s winter.

Maybe best for you to stay home for a while until you are ready to mix with the real world.

Willyoujustbequiet · 16/12/2021 19:01

The booking of the extra seats was because there were vulnerable disabled children in the party/some neuro diverse and some physically Please feel free to trawl back through my posts over many years before you dont believe a word of it.

I also didnt say I wanted anyone to lose their jobs either but why let misquoting get in the way of having a go 🙄

I can honestly say, whenever I've been to the cinema since Lockdown 1 ended, the cinema hasn't been packed. Not even for James Bond, which hubby fell asleep for a good portion of, and I stayed awake and suffered watching it.. So damn annoying.

I shall be watching Spiderman this weekend. Wear a mask for moving around but that's it. We're all triple vaxxed 😊

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 19:05

so what did the staff say when you complained?
