Cinemas not following the rules

If you are cautious about covid I would advise against Vue cinemas at the moment.

We went at an early showing and booked extra seats to keep some distance. It was awful. No signs up about masks required and I would estimate 75% didn't bother. A few clearly had flu/covid and were coughing and spluttering everywhere. Staff weren't interested in the slightest. Some teenagers were making a point of coughing as they thought it was hilarious. A few including us walked out because of how bad it was.

It's no wonder we are in this mess. To be honest I hope they shut them again.

Op I suggest you stay away from public transport and shops this week too as they are packed .
Seriously op why should you wear a mask say in the cinema ? Walking about yes but sat eating and drinking nah , and kids at the cinema have always been annoying. Stay home watch a film on Netflix op and not worry about others as I’m guessing you didn’t enjoy the experience.

BellaChagall · 17/12/2021 08:02

The OP actually stated that she wanted the cinemas shut again!

EssexLioness · 17/12/2021 10:40

@girlmom21

Did you really drag a group of children, who you say have missed out on so much, out of the cinema? That's awful.
Completely agree, as I said above. It’s so selfish - the poor children would’ve been better not going at all than to face that disappointment and disruption
LadyWithLapdog · 17/12/2021 17:37

OP I think it's frustrating and selfish as it's so easy to put a fucking mask on (I know, some can't etc). I imagine it's difficult for staff to confront the anti-maskers as, let's face it, it's going to be confrontational. I'm sorry people are giving you a hard time on here.

VikingOnTheFridge · 17/12/2021 17:42

@TyrannosaurusRegina

For people saying she shouldn't have went. Why should OP miss out because of people who decide to just not give a damn? I'm sure she'd have felt ok about the whole experience if there weren't unmasked people coughing and sputtering away. Surely basic awareness is that if you're coughing and sputtering then you don't go to a busy cinema, much less without a mask.
Because if she doesn't want to be in a place where people are acting quite legally, the onus is on her to modify her behaviour not them.
Franklin12 · 17/12/2021 17:58

I think you need to stay at home. You sound ridiculous.

Topseyt · 17/12/2021 18:07

@claretblue79

I wouldn't bother OP. Most reasonable people could see that you weren't wishing somewhere closed, you're frustrated because of people's basic lack of consideration to those around you. However, as is normal on these threads, everything gets taken out of context and jumped on. As for suggesting the OP doesn't care about anyone else, that's just beneath contempt. Makes me feel really sad about where all of this is going
Then explain why she finished her OP with the following quote:

"To be honest I hope they shut them again".

Shutting them again means closing them. I don't suppose that OP really doesn't care about anyone else, but her remark was flippant and thoughtless.

I went to the cinema, watched Spiderman No Way Home. It was brilliant. Cinema was reasonably busy. Which actually felt normal.

There was 3 of us, empty seats either side of us. Myself and daughter didn't wear a mask when sitted. My hubby did. He seems to like wearing it except when we were guzzling M&M Peanuts or drinking.

I felt perfectly ok in there. No coughing, no talking. Just odd bit of laughter here and there.
