Just watch Boris and the government continue to praise themselves when the hospital admissions do not go up like they're predicting.

the hospitals are already at breaking point, but its a shiit show of the last 10 years of cuts, not training enough nurses and stopping immigrant nurses.

sp now they will blame it all on covid19

Southampton and Norwich have already stopped elective surgery

Birmingham is still going, for now and Coventry is usually a little behind B/ham

Musicaltheatremum · 15/12/2021 14:59

My daughter's boyfriend is an agency nurse and works in ITU the hospital he is booked to go to next has only agency nurses for the next week as 6/48 got covid at a Christmas party so all 42 non covid staff have to isolate for 10 days (Scotland)

Won't take much to have no staff. Although my health board says we can come in if a contact and fully vaccinated (3) and negative PCR test and then daily LFTs.

CovidCorvid · 15/12/2021 15:02

@Incognito22333

I think they are missing a trick. A lot if people with Covid just need some steroids, antibiotics and a bit of oxygen. If this could be delivered quickly and easily early on in eg GP practices might make a big difference.
So do you propose people sit for hours and hours in the consulting rooms or the waiting room having oxygen? It’s not a five minute snifter.
DynamiteFilledRadish · 15/12/2021 15:02

@Charles11

Oh yes of course. More terrifying numbers so we all sit quivering in fear at home while they quaff champers at parties laughing at us all.
Pretty much.
the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 15:05

I very much doubt number 10 will have another party ever again.
( most of the population over Christmas probably will though !)

This with bells on.

There are now a number of effective treatments for COVID becoming available. Is that reported on the news? No it isn't, because that's not scary.

MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 15:06
Is there extra money to fund that?

I very much doubt they won't. These are people with skins thicker than a castle wall, who couldn't give a shiny shit about anyone else, and are only interested in what's in it for themselves.

Utter shower, the lot of them.

Hairmyres by any chance?

@WineGetsMeThroughIt

I'm so fed up with all this now. I suspect the press conference will be Boris giving himself a big pat on the back for the most successful day of jabs ever and for having the most successful booster programme of almost any country.

A booster for a variant that is the equivalent of a cold for most people.

I have watched the news for the past few days. They have had SA doctors And scientists confirming that the variant is much more mild than delta and that the UK and Boris are completely overreacting.

3 years ago would you have cancelled your plans because you had a cold? Unlikely.

Just watch Boris and the government continue to praise themselves when the hospital admissions do not go up like they're predicting. They will chalk that up to a successful booster programme and not the fact that the variant was so mild in the first place. Meanwhile, they'll continue to move the goal post. You're not fully vaccinated until you have your 3rd jab. Meanwhile Pfizer are developing a jab to tackle the Omicron variant which they say will be available in the next 6 months. By that time we'll have all had Omicron anyways, but we will face yet another booster drive, eventually moving the goalposts post again to say you're not fully vaccinated until you get the 4th jab.

Madness. This is seriously so depressing now. I'm done with covid and the jabs.

All this about it being mild etc I would love to be the case but I don’t think anyone can be certain

The booster does increase protection against the variant

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 15:10

The booster programme was pretty much winding down over October and early November here, didn't hear much about it and I assumed it was for the elderly only ( like the seasonal flu jabs.)
I know that the omicron changed all that , but it shows how they took their eye off the ball.

PestoSugarPlumFairy · 15/12/2021 15:10

The booster does increase protection against the variant

They know this yet they don't know how mild (or not) it is yet? Make it make sense.

LemonSwan · 15/12/2021 15:11

Exactly! I am not listening to these anymore. I am going to live my life in a way where I see fit based on risk assessments I have made myself and what I deem to be an acceptable risk to myself. No different to them.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 15/12/2021 15:12

@Fritilleries

What exactly is the concern as omicron results in mild symptoms, much like a cold?
That, presumably, is what the conference is about, again, There is also a devolved nations meeting. There will be more and more information over the next few days.

Has everyone forgotten how it goes? Research, meeting, recommendations, conference and repeat.

clairethewitch70 · 15/12/2021 15:13

I doubt there is extra money Marsha Bradyo, but its a Labour government who would have had us in continuous lockdown if Boris would pay for it.

DynamiteFilledRadish · 15/12/2021 15:15
I really really hope this isn't true.

But if you don't listen and find out what the data says how can you make a risk assessment?

And, unless you are an epidemiologist, at the very least, your perceptions, understanding will be very diffferent from theirs. No points of similarity at all!

rainydogday · 15/12/2021 15:15

Nhs staffing is going to be really scary. Staff I work with that had boosters back in late October are testing positive. Obviously yes the boosters will prevent serious illness but if it is spreading that quickly the boosters people are having now aren't having time to work. DH had his booster last week and just tested positive as has the kids. Another Christmas cancelled 😞

reesewithoutaspoon · 15/12/2021 15:16

If this is doubling avery few days then exponentially the numbers could become huge in a matter of weeks.
The economy cant afford vast numbers of people off sick. infrastructure wont cope. Imagine your bins not being collected. public transport not operating, childcare not available, schools unable to staff themselves, deliveries to supermarkets not happening, funeral homes shut down , hospital staff off ill. this is not like flu where you get little pockets, this is potentially numbers into the millions of people being ill at the same time. all the services you rely on are run by people and those people may be off work sick. who's going to run them?

clairethewitch70 · 15/12/2021 15:16

DynamiteFilledRadish - I was given to me by a Town Lord Mayor ....

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 15/12/2021 15:18

Again I have to tell you @reesewithoutaspoon stop it with the relentless and boring logic!

How's a person supposed get all indignant with posters like you around?

@rainydogday that worries me. DH and I have 5 days to go before we get or booster. I don't want to have made it this far to come down with it, no matter how mild, right now!

ClawedButler · 15/12/2021 15:18

I don't need to imagine it, @reesewithoutaspoon, I can remember it!

User9529057 · 15/12/2021 15:19

He would have to have one today because they had the vote yesterday evening, isn't there always one after a vote, the one Sunday had no press.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 15/12/2021 15:21

Oooh! yes, I forgot that sometimes there has to be a vote/new legislation in the middle of the SOP!
