@Lockheart

Exactly and those are all the people that will be at Christmas dinner.

@JuergenSchwarzwald

Just saw this on Twitter. Not sure what he's going to say this time. Just confirm the new measures, maybe.
Stop going out and having parties etc? Unless you're a Tory of course - they can do what they like.
julieca · 15/12/2021 15:53

The worry as well is what to do to services if lots of people are off ill or isolating.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 15/12/2021 15:55

@LiteralLateral

Well fantastic then. We're all coping with it just fine then. So much so, most people are going about their daily lives assuming it's just a cold. Because it's mild enough to be mistaken for a cold. So stop the bloody fuss!

You do understand that it isn't mild for everyone?
Some people are asymptomatic, some people have mild illness, some people need to go to hospital but survive and some people need to go to hospital and don't survive.

Of course I understand that. 🤦🏼‍♀️ But the regular flu is also deadly for some. But not most. Covid will never be eradicated in our life time. So at what point do we get to before we say enough is enough. There's no longer a point in trying to vaccinate against it, because the vaccines only protect for a few months before a booster is needed. And I say protect with a grain of salt. Because while they do lesson symptoms for serious variants like Delta, how much protecting does the average person need against a cold? Are people really willing to have 4+ jabs a year for the foreseeable future to protect against this assuming that other variants will be mild as well (and I say that based on the science and research that I've seen and heard that says viruses generally mutate to become more transmissible, but as a result are milder.)

Jabbed or not, the virus is still spread through close contact. How do we think it got into this country? The super spreader Christmas parties we hear about on the news where everyone is vaccinated, yet 90% of attendees are getting it.

This may help to explain the effectiveness of vaccines on a respiratory infection. / illness for you https://www.instagram.com/tv/CSbNOB2jZv/?utmmmedium=copylink

I’m sure they are looking at it but the ten day isolation could be reassessed

To what? 20?
MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 15:57

Er no…

CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 15/12/2021 15:57

5?

MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 15:59

Look at infectious period and take into account pressure on services about to hit

I think some suggestions have been made from various people (Spector) for shorter

Whether it’s viable would take some calculations

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 15:59

It's not the government that needs to listen ( because whatever you think of them all , they do listen to the scientists ) it's people in general who need to be made aware of the risks and so far most people are just sick of it all or anti vaxxers or will resist any more restrictions and do what they like. I'm not judging these people at all , but how can they get any message across now and have the general population go along with it ?
They won't this Christmas.
If your an NHS worker you must be feeling utter despair.

Ah I see yes for people much cleverer than me
MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 16:04

And me I won’t attempt to try!

Willing to listen to the experts though. Some people are just so clever with maths and stats and modelling.
FourTeaFallOut · 15/12/2021 16:08

78k positive cases today. So I'm sure that'll get a mention.

actiongirl1978 · 15/12/2021 16:08

Also think isolation should be reduced to 5 days or when symptoms have ended.

Florianus · 15/12/2021 16:09

I honestly have no idea if this is a joke

Probably not. The daily number of infections rose by almost 30,000 yesterday. he daily rate could easily reach 400,00 - it is what happens once an exponential rise gets going, particularly since millions in the UK are still unvaccinated.

EmpressSuiko · 15/12/2021 16:12

I have RTR so apologies if this has been mentioned. They are having a cobra netting at the same time as the press conference, how soon after the meetings do we usually get a public announcement on decisions made? I’m due to fly abroad on Sunday and have such a negative feeling that our flight will be cancelled or non essential travel bans will be imposed.

nordica · 15/12/2021 16:14

78k cases recorded today, the highest recorded total so far in the pandemic.

MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 16:15

Numbers are going to get high, I don’t see how they won’t be more than we’ve seen so far given the variables

CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 15/12/2021 16:17

That's so high! They need to do something. The hospitals aren't going to be able to handle it. The staff will be getting ill.
Panacotta · 15/12/2021 16:18

Is this today at 5?

Based on what? Has there been new research in when infectiousness ends? Would be good if there had been!
FourTeaFallOut · 15/12/2021 16:18

Yes

FourTeaFallOut · 15/12/2021 16:18

Yes to 5pm

julieca · 15/12/2021 16:20

If isolation is reduced to 5 days, it will be purely to keep businesses running. It wont be based on science.
