@Jng1 but they do nothing to properly address the real reasons people are not getting boosted.
cant get boosted if the website just gives you a message to try again later , because they are so overloaded , if i cant even book it then fuck it i wont be able to have it done . and i havent got the time to stand in a walk in vaccination centre for 5 hours or so .

Westfacing · 15/12/2021 17:53

It's just a bit of electioneering before tomorrow - call me a cynic.

TheHolyPotato · 15/12/2021 17:53

Turquoisesol: I took it that in comparing severity of disease between delta wave and Omicron, SA took delta badly as low vaccination whereas UK had the immunity due to high rate of vaccination during delta wave.
So the noticeable difference between severity of disease of the two waves in SA would not translate to the UK.

IndigoC · 15/12/2021 17:54

Boris seems more ragged than usual. A man under pressure.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 15/12/2021 17:55

I’m liking Witty’s explanation. He speaks to us like actual adults and explains the anomalies in the headlines.

Turquoisesol · 15/12/2021 17:56

Thanks theholypotato but was that implying immunity from real infection rather than vaccine could be preferred, they just don’t know obviously

Jng1 · 15/12/2021 17:56

@Tabbacus
No shit of course it is persuasive language thats the whole point confused. I don't think we need Shakespeare to scrutinise this one.

Dunno, I see so many people saying it's so embarrassing Boris trivialising it like this. As if it's some sort of gaffe.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 17:56

Maybe the booster programme will work , then the conservatives would have 'saved Christmas ' and it was all because it was mild and only a cold, not too many end up in hospital etc etc
The cynical side of me thinks this might happen?
Who knows, although Chris is saying it'll be bad by Christmas.! ?
Who really knows ?

CoffeeMuggins · 15/12/2021 17:57

@Scbchl

But Omicron doesn't kill half the percentage of people than Delta..its even lower going by Africa who have had it much longer than us and who have had less vaccinated. They have came out and saif this and said repeatedly how mild it is.

My son has it right now. He's had no vaccinations due to his age and has had sore eyes for two days and that's it.

So he's under 12, and therefore really not one of the people that we need to worry about. Seems about right, doesn't it?
FoxgloveSummers · 15/12/2021 17:57

Who asked that question about BJ being the right person - he was good

HeronLanyon · 15/12/2021 17:58

He was excellent.
Also the scientists are wiping the floor with Boris re leadership, role modelling and respect.

FoxgloveSummers · 15/12/2021 17:59

"I follow the rules. Everybody across politics should follow the rules."

Honestly has there literally ever been a brassier neck than the one on this dickbag who purports to lead us?

worriedatthemoment · 15/12/2021 17:59

Missed it can Anyone sum it up at all pleAse

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 15/12/2021 18:00

The BSL interpreter should be our new PM Grin

WoodenReindeer · 15/12/2021 18:00

Wow its going to be tough isn't it. Witty was clear a lot of medics will have it at the same time, when the demands on nhs are huge...

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 18:01

Chris Whitty ( not a sir ) will be working this Christmas as he was last year .

The other new sir will be in Monaco quaffing champers and counting out his money from driving a car very very fast

Akire · 15/12/2021 18:01

Basically we not changing nowt but we expect you to decide what’s important for you over Xmas. So if it all goes balls up well the great British public didn’t do well enough, naughty!

But what would you want introduced?
julieca · 15/12/2021 18:02

I would trust what Whitty says.

Akire, how you doing now?? Hope your ok and feeling better ? Yep, the public have it in your hands now ( or your arms !) We don't want to be the bad boys again ..
WoodenReindeer · 15/12/2021 18:03

We should do some sort of mumsnet christmas card/thankyou card for Chris Witty. He really is amazing.

BarmyBrunhilde · 15/12/2021 18:03

I think it's pretty reckless to discourage people from socialising without any sort of economic support for businesses. They're on their knees! Feeling very sorry for those in hospitality/the arts who've had such a touch couple of years.

Seriouslymole · 15/12/2021 18:04

Get boosted. Omicron is spreading really quite quickly. NHS might be overwhelmed. Really nothing more exciting or educational than that.
the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 18:05

Boris Johnson seemed bullish , almost upbeat
All day it's been doom and bloody gloom !
.. sky news saying the same too ?
Who do you believe?
..

WoodenReindeer · 15/12/2021 18:06

Yep. They've managed to avoid support for those working in areas affected by making it people's personal choice.

Reminds me of v early on when told not to go to the pub - but no official word to close pubs as then they'd have to provide support.
