Have you got Omicron? Or suspected to have it?

I know it's early days. But...

If you have it now / have had it

  • What did you / do you feel like / symptoms / compared to flu/cold/other
  • How many vaccines / which ones had you had (if any)
  • Have you had Covid (and 'brand') before?
  • How old are you / do you have any existing illnesses?

I am scared shitless by all the media out there but would like to hear from some people who actually have it rather than BOJO.

I've had Covid, long Covid, 2 pfizer vaccines (quite recently) which made me feel really ill again. Not desperate to rush for my booster just yet but will do If I feel I am at risk of serious illness / death.

I'm in Africa, so suspect Omicron. Caught at outside event - open air, breezy venue with ceiling fans. Got sore throat and tired 3 days later. Kids and DP had snuffles. Negative LFTs and PCRs, so dismissed as cold or gone BUT 5 days later after a tiring journey, good night's sleep but some exercise (which I now regret) got very badly ill - muscle aches and then sore organs, especially lungs. Now faint positive LFT! Definitely worse than my last 2 bouts of COVID although not for DP who gets worst colds. Double vacced and not had booster yet (government employee and they'd promised to send it but late doing so, then redlisted). My top tip is not to work through it like I did and not to push on exercise. Don't be complacent. Get boosters. Maybe 85percent are fine but I feel like death warmed up. Normally fit and healthy.

We have had 3 colds, one after another, since early Novemberm. I do LFTs x2 p/w as NHS staff but they are always negative. DS also negative since being close contact with his class mates. All the symptoms we have had could well be Omicron, sore throat, headaches, but no temperature with it. Someone I know tested positive recently and they only had a headache!

I do wonder about the point of these LFTs as someone else said they had 5 days of negatives only to test positive on a PCR! So what are you supposed to do? Keep having PCRs every few days and never go out?! It's madness!

DaddysGirl36 · 20/12/2021 07:49

I have a cold. Usual symptoms for me of sore throat & runny nose. I'm rarely sneezing & no headache, not achy or tired. Lateral flow negative

Would cold remedies work on Omicron? As I feel fine after my lemsip & throat soother

Quite happy to get a PCR to confirm. Just curious on how to tell difference & answer to above question but can't see any info

Ifitistobesaid · 21/12/2021 02:34

I tested positive on a lateral flow today.

I have had a scratchy throat since Friday and happened to be getting a PCR test that day anyway so I could fly home at the weekend. Got my PCR result on Saturday and it was negative. By Sunday I still had the scratchy throat so took a lateral flow before my flight just in case. Also negative.

Landed yesterday and took another test today - positive! I still only have the mildest of scratchy throats and nothing else so hopefully it stays that way. I am double vaxxed with Pfizer and had my booster in the middle of last week but think it was too soon to offer protection.

How are those who posted earlier in the thread feeling now?

incornerreading · 21/12/2021 03:29

I don’t know if it’s Omicron but I live in London, tested positive yesterday.
Started with aches and pains, fever, headache, sore throat, felt like a cold.
Now my main symptom is excessive thirst.

sparkles12 · 21/12/2021 04:02

We've both had confirmed omicron. Both double jabbed, my second only in November, husband over 6 months ago (wasn't yet eligible for booster)

Husband suddenly ill on the Wednesday, tested positive Thursday. I did pcr Friday and negative, ill by Friday evening, positive pcr Saturday. Found out he was a contact of someone the previous Saturday, had chatted to them outside.

Our LFT never showed positive even pre-symptoms.

Mostly had a blocked nose, head cold and bad muscle aches for a few days, started with a really sore throat. Cough only because of dry sore throat, no chest symptoms, no loss of taste or smell. I have since developed vertigo 11 days in. Husband fine.

Husband had delta over summer (was double vaccinated) and said this time was a lot milder to how he felt then.

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 21/12/2021 04:39

@herecomesthsun

I had the opportunity to have a (very long) conversation with Test and Trace today and also with a research medic working with covid vaccines; they tell me that the information as to whether a positive result is omicron just isn't available yet.
So where are the govt getting their statistics?
PeriodHacker · 21/12/2021 07:06

Got a call yesterday to say I had Omicrom.

Symptoms:
Dry, sore, scratchy throat
Extremely runny, snotty, nose
Sneezing and sinus pain
HEADACHES (these the worst)
Mildish cough
Body aches
Slightly raised temp
Lost smell/taste (but only on day 7 which was odd)
Fatigue and mild breathlessness (E.g going up stairs)
Felt worst on days 2,3,4.

It is still lingering 11 days later but I have an underlying health condition so that isn't a surprise

I have had flu a few times before and I would say this was like a mild flu. Unpleasant but not horrendous.

NHS person said my symptoms are very typical with what they are seeing in Omicrom cases.

PeriodHacker · 21/12/2021 07:09

I will add that I was contacted and told because of my CEV status. I don't know if they are informing everyone what variant they have when it's found to be Omicrom.

Sweetmagnolia · 21/12/2021 10:37

I tested positive on LFT six days ago with typical cold symptoms. I am feeling a lot better now although I wake up with a headache. This goes after getting up and a cup of tea. However, I am still waiting for my PCR result. The test was sent off on Friday afternoon, so close to four days ago. I understand that the testing labs are probably overwhelmed, or possibly missing staff themselves. However, this must mean that the official figures are artificially low.

Mrsfrumble · 21/12/2021 11:05

I tested positive 5 days ago. I caught it from DD, who caught it at school from a classmate whose dad had suspected omicron (back when they were testing specifically for it). Also, we’re in London so there’s a fair chance that it’s what we’ve got anyway. I had a headache, runny nose and scratchy throat for a few days. I also had a upset stomach on day 2 but now I feel absolutely fine. DD had a runny nose and a bit of a cough which is lingering, but has been full of beans and eating nonstop throughout. I’ve had all 3 jabs, but only had my booster last Monday. DD hasn’t had any as she’s only 9.

Whatapickle78 · 21/12/2021 12:04

I am on Day 7 of suspected Omicron (caught it in London). Cough, fever etc have all gone and I’m left with really horrendous body aches (esp my back) and terrible fatigue. I am still stuck on the sofa/in bed. It’s good to hear from those who are further along that they are improving! Feeling quite down at the moment as I had Long Covid after my first infection in March 2020 and at time of catching Omicron, was almost completely recovered ☹️

DaddysGirl36 · 21/12/2021 13:37

I'm North East so a bit reassured mine is just a cold. Sore throat & very mild runny nose - symptoms totally under control with Lemsip capsules. 3 negative lateral flows. I don't know anyone around me who has it so I was just being cautious due to the Omicron symptoms being described as a cold

Locoooomotive · 21/12/2021 17:37

Some very interesting accounts here. Glad most people are doing OK.

@Whatapickle78 i feel sorry for you, hoping you pick up soon. Have you had all the vaccines yet? I think after long Covid any sort of virus knocks us back more than most but hopefully not too much longer for you. Was this milder than your first Covid?

Worriedsinglemummy · 24/12/2021 07:30

For those of you reporting a fever, how long did it last please, I’m day five of 39-40 degrees with regular medicine and although the aches have gone (replaced with a head cold) I’m getting concerned about why my body isn’t fighting this and temp is still so high, it’s just me and my toddler at home so scared I’m going to get suddenly ill. There is no one else to look after her (she also has a fever) and my mum and dad kindly took my eldest two who have just had covid a few weeks back.

Reassurance needed

(Oxygen levels fine!)

Pumpkin5piced · 24/12/2021 07:49

I had one day of feeling awful, no actual fever but felt like I had one, freezing and twitching, shaking and muscle aches. Also lower back pain and pain in my legs.
The next day felt a lot better, all of the above stopped and just had a pressure type headache and general tiredness. Still had some aches that would kick in around 6 hours after last paracetamol does as opposed to the day before where I was desperate for my next dose after 3 hours.
Today is day 3 and I feel ok, just a bit of pressure in my head like you get with a cold but I think I may be beginning to get a bad chest. Hopefully not.

flowerycurtain · 24/12/2021 07:57

I'm day 6. Picked up on a regular LFD confirmed by PCR. Virtually no symptoms except I sneeze 4 or 5 times when I wake up and I overslept twice this week which is highly unusual for me.

I wouldn't know I was I'll if I hadn't tested. Still working (from home) running 6k daily (treadmill) and preparing for Xmas with kids.

Dh and kids still testing negative although dh was very tired the week before so we now wonder if that was it.

I'm early 40's, healthy BMI.

Volterra · 24/12/2021 08:02

I suspect DD has it, 8 out of 9 people who visited her house have it and the 9th is headachey .

DD is 22 and can’t sleep, temperature, sore throat, aches, cough and her breathing has gone funny so we’re doing a 2 hour trip to get Oximeter there today. She’s feeling really bad but booster due end of the month and last jab was July. Friends who have had booster are faring better.

Hoopoo · 02/01/2022 16:57

Sorry to hear this, how are you feeling now? I’m day 6 & body aches have been awful, but they finally going now but I’m left with a sore chest today. Hoping I’m nearing the end now!

Kerzel · 02/01/2022 17:04

I tested positive yesterday on PCR but have no symptoms at all. LTF yesterday morning was negative and this morning my LTF had only a very faint line.

Weird!
