Have you got Omicron? Or suspected to have it?

I know it's early days. But...

If you have it now / have had it

  • What did you / do you feel like / symptoms / compared to flu/cold/other
  • How many vaccines / which ones had you had (if any)
  • Have you had Covid (and 'brand') before?
  • How old are you / do you have any existing illnesses?

I am scared shitless by all the media out there but would like to hear from some people who actually have it rather than BOJO.

I've had Covid, long Covid, 2 pfizer vaccines (quite recently) which made me feel really ill again. Not desperate to rush for my booster just yet but will do If I feel I am at risk of serious illness / death.

I cannot comprehend why some people are still going to bother with the booster after having a recent bout of covid. What are you expecting to it to achieve?

So that if you get covid again, the symptoms are less severe? Think about all those poor people who got covid before we had the vaccines.
SayAaa · 16/12/2021 20:24

How on earth do you know if you have Omicron? Doesn't the PCR just come back as positive or negative?

Probably greater immunity, I'd imagine.

I had covid (unconfirmed by testing but GP is positive that's what it was) before the first suggestion of anything - end of January before the first lockdown. Horrendous hacking cough, worse at night, exhaustion, snotty and sinus pain. DH also had it, I'm asthmatic he's not. We both got double vaxxed. Met up with friends at a party - all double vaxxed - over a dozen of us caught covid. DH avoided it this time, I was absolutely clobbered by it. Fortunately not hospitalised but flat out in bed, needing my inhaler multiple times a day, sleeping for hours on end...normally I'm an insomniac! 3 weeks after isolation I'm still struggling with my energy levels and needing so much more sleep than usual. No idea what variant it was, possibly Omicron as so many people caught it and succumbed so quickly? I just want to get my energy back and be able to live my life again ☹️

Delatron · 16/12/2021 20:39

I think 3 weeks ago would have been Delta.

I just think parties are real spreader events unfortunately (I love parties!)

I am wondering if i had it a month ago ( i know i know but so often it turns out these “new” variants have been around for a couple for weeks than they say)
Double jabbed, positive lft and pcr, terrible headaches, and muscle aches and swears at night.

JaffavsCookie · 16/12/2021 20:56

Sweats, not swears!

PixellatedPixie · 16/12/2021 21:00

I grew up in South Africa and so have loads of family and friends there still and both my nephews and sister in law (mid forties) have had Omicron. They are all double vaccinated with Pfizer. None of them have had more than cold symptoms. None are triple jabbed yet as it’s slower in SA. I know someone here who had Covid very recently (6 weeks ago) and is now ill again so she presumed it is Omicron. She had horrible flu like symptoms but is now on the mend.

I have more live anecdotal data coming through from my party. Other boostered guest feeling much better. So the boosters are really cutting the length and severity but not stopping infection. (From this one party).

I wonder at what point there will be so many mild infections that they will cut the isolation period to avoid mass closures of services. If it's that virulent, it could close down a workplace very quickly.

I’m double vaxxed, DH triple vaxxed. Both exactly the same symptoms in the same time frame. Symptoms very mild and short lived but clearly, highly infectious.
Honeyhorse · 16/12/2021 21:39

Any anecdotal evidence of people without any vaccines and how they’re fairing with omicron?

Delatron · 16/12/2021 21:40

Cutting isolation period was being discussed on the radio this morning. If symptoms clear up quicker and the whole country goes to shit then I think it’s something they’d have to look at.

supersop60 · 16/12/2021 22:07

My son has just finished his 10 days isolation. His PCR came back positive. DP, DD and I all negative.
I got a call from test and trace 5 days after his positive result, saying it might be Omicron and we should all isolate immediately. 2 days after that and the rules changed again, and all we had to do was LFT daily.
DS's symptoms were sore throat, runny nose and a cough. No temperature or headache, taste and smell are unaffected. Like a cold, but not a cold.

leli · 16/12/2021 22:40

@beguilingeyes

I thought I was coming down with a cold on Sunday. Negative LF on Sunday, positive on Monday, then positive PCR same day. Still feels like a cold, bit feverish. Lethargic. I've had all three jabs, booster early October. Not had Covid before. Trying to keep DH from getting it which would bugger up Christmas completely. My isolation ends on 23rd at the moment.
I am exactly the same as you Beguiling. Cold symptoms last Sunday. Positive LFT on Monday PCR positive on Tuesday. Cold symptoms. Congested, moderate chills, moderate lethargy. Three jabs, Pfizer, booster was early October. No previous Covid. Also trying to stop DH from getting it because if he tests positive from now on his isolation will take us through the holiday period.

I think the LFTs are throwing up a lot of false negatives with the Omicron variant.

Final point. We can't keep isolating people with a variant so mild it is just a cold. Civilisation will break down.

Delatron · 16/12/2021 23:12

Yep my LFT was negative. I didn’t have symptoms that warranted testing. I only tested due to close contacts having positive LFT.

itto · 16/12/2021 23:26

Anecdotal data from a non vaxxed person. Tested positive today, strongly suspect it's omicron as I have had some weird back pain. Very very mild symptoms, feeling a bit hot, slightly sore throat on and off. I'm feeling tired but nothing unusual considering it's the end of term and I have a non-sleeping baby. I think I caught it from my children as it seems rife in their school. They don't show any symptoms apart from being a bit more sleepy than usual. Honestly it's so mild I don't think I would have thought to test, if it wasn't for the back pain. Husband probably has it too, we have ordered more tests. He is very vulnerable but doesn't seem to have worse symptoms than mine. It's the 1st time we have covid.

Locoooomotive · 17/12/2021 15:04

Some good info on here. @itto I hope you stay only mildly ill.

Lokdok · 17/12/2021 15:15

I'm on day 3 and have cramps, muscle pain, cold like symptoms. I feel like I can do anything but when I actually try, I need to sit back down as I'm exhausted. Headache too. I had a cough on day one but it seems to have lifted already. (Triple vaccinated)

Whatapickle78 · 17/12/2021 22:24

Day 4 here… feeling rubbish! Definitely feels different to last time I had COVID though. Less chesty. More like a very bad cold plus bad aches, pains and sweats. I’m double vaxxed. Only had booster on Monday so it hadn’t had time to work yet…

Policyschmolicy · 17/12/2021 22:45

My child currently has covid, fairly asymptomatically, I wouldn’t necessarily notice he’s unwell sniffles and a runny tummy. My DH has just for the past couple of days felt a little off colour, vaguely sniffly, a bit achy, and has a really loose tummy.

Locoooomotive · 19/12/2021 20:33

@policyschmolicy that sounds relatively reassuring, have you avoided it? Also are you and your DH vaxxed/boosted? Had Covid before?

OP posts:
Policyschmolicy · 19/12/2021 21:18

Both vaxxed and boosted, my booster too recent to be really useful. I have had covid, early in the pandemic, not sure about DH. My covid made me very unwell for a number of weeks. The covid in our household this time appears to have been much weaker.
