"As pressure from virus rises, PM will give national address at 8pm tonight, updating the booster programme - sounds like this will NOT include new restrictions"

@Octavia174

Its a pity he did not announce real restrictions for the unvaccinated.
No it isn't. It's just been proven that the double jabbed are not protected against omicron and they've also been spreading delta for months. Absolutely no need to cause segregation
AwaAnBileYerHeid · 12/12/2021 23:51

@willthatbeall

He literally gives no fucks about young people under 18. Rules keep changing for them. 3 months most of them have to wait for a vaccine as Covid swept through schools
To be fair, it isn't him making up the 3 month rule (if you're referring to the rule of under 18s waiting 12 weeks post covid before getting the vaccination) that's from manufacturers. The risk of myocarditis is higher in this age group therefore it was felt that a 12 week period between covid and vaccination was necessary.

@Tistheseason17

I call bullshit. Boris - Oh dear, they really won't leave me alone for the Xmas parties Adviser - Let's tell everyone they can get their booster before Xmas? Boris - Great idea - no one knows if Omicron is even a big issue but it should create enough panic and a promise of help to distract from me nicely - go on, I'll look like their saviour - fuck the NHS staff who are on their knees - and if they complain I'll call them selfish and ungrateful! Adviser - great - I'll set up a press conference Boris - NO, don't do that - I'll need to pre-record so no one can ask me any questions about the parties or why this is even necessary!!!

In Australia, boosters have been brought forward as well. (From 6 months from the second vaccination to 5 - most of the population would be hitting that mark now or within a month or so.)

So, not bullshit. All omicron.

sarah13xx · 13/12/2021 00:07

How can you have that many advisors and spend that much money doing up your house, to then go on national tv with your hair like that? I just don’t get it. Every time I see his hair I’m genuinely blown away that he expects to look like that and be taken seriously. It’s so bad now it’s actually starting to look like he’s cut into the sides himself with the kitchen scissors. Surely to god there’s a hairdresser in there?!

sarah13xx · 13/12/2021 00:10

I’m a teacher and from what I’m hearing from friends in other schools, a lot of head teachers are preparing for home learning again. They think schools here will shut on Friday (rather than next week). I think by next Sunday we will be in a completely different place in terms of the scale of the restrictions in place. I don’t think they’ll ever say the word ‘lockdown’ this time but it they allow us to get through Christmas, I’m certain there will be some serious restrictions in January

HannibalHayeski · 13/12/2021 00:35

Don't worry, the lockdowns are being readied for New Year.

That's when the full impact of the Brexit border controls come in. We're hopelessly unprepared for this, and so the government want us to be locked down so that they can blame it on Omicron.

Nat6999 · 13/12/2021 01:43

I'm ECV, housebound & haven't even been offered my third dose which means my booster is even further away. I'm being bombarded with letters & emails asking why I haven't had it but the doctors keep on telling me I'm on list. I think tonight was a smokescreen for some big story about the Tories coming out this week, nothing about vaccines.

Nat6999 · 13/12/2021 01:49

If they could give me the stuff I could do my own, I do intramuscular B12 injections every day on myself.

GinPin2 · 13/12/2021 05:55

Six of my 7 grandchildren have had covid. All under 12.

One of them just turned 2 and also her 6 week old sister.

Only 2 of us 8 adults have had covid ( my eldest daughter and her husband- caught from their 3 primary school aged children before the parents could get boosters).

Us adults have now all had our boosters and have not caught covid from the remaining 3 grandchildren who had covid.. Boosters work.

How the just turned 2 yr old caught it ( to then give to her baby sister) we have absolutely no idea. She goes only to one baby group with mummy, does not go shopping or anywhere else apart from our house. Mummy & Daddy and Nana & Grandpa tested and continue to test negative.
It would appear that babies can give it to babies, unless there are unvaccinated mums at the baby group. Only 4 mums and 4 babies in a spacious old hall with a lot of unavoidable ventilation!!!

Daisydoor12 · 13/12/2021 06:30

Surely we are still in this never ending cycle of vaccinate/booster? No one knows how long the booster lasts for, say they hit their target everyone receives booster by end of year. Plenty of unvaccinated people out there (why would they bother now getting first jab when everyone is saying first and second jabs don’t work?) so omicron or whatever variant out there will still be circulating and we’ll be back in the same situation say 3months time or when immunity starts to wane. Also can people with booster still catch and pass on covid-yes highly likely. I got one don’t believe the booster will be the last booster next will be a jab for omicron then oh you need a booster a never ending circle!

the80sweregreat · 13/12/2021 06:33

The rest of Europe have a much more efficient and better funded health care systems and can cope with a surge in Delta , even Johnson admitted that our one wasn't fit for purpose back in feb 2020 in the Telegraph when Italy was suffering a huge wave ( although he didn't write it like that )
We need the booster to try and see off Omnicron and just hope that the hospitals can cope. With other procedures being stopped it might be ok ( just ) with this new wave
It's the ones who are not having any jabs or boosters who need to be persuaded to get one and they won't listen to our PM if they haven't up to now.

Handholdtoday · 13/12/2021 06:35

@Daisydoor12 Not sure of my ability to pass on but I'm doubled vaxxed, had booster 6 weeks ago (so time for immunity to have increased) and I'm on day 7 of Covid so it definitely doesn't prevent catching it.

Daisydoor12 · 13/12/2021 06:56

@Handholdtoday I hope you are not too poorly and have it mild due to your vaccines.

I am double vaccinated just can’t get my head around the thought of this never ending vaccine/booster circle.

WarriorN · 13/12/2021 07:08

CV circulating among the younger children will mean that as they get older their immune systems will be much better primed to treat it as a just a cold?

The annual flu jab is never fool proof, people still catch it and experience it more as a cold, and it does reduce both circulation and also hospital stays.

Hence why it's given to preschoolers and primary children as well as anyone with well documented vulnerabilities to flu.

We've just never been in a position to test and know what virus we've got in this way. And compare with others.

Isthisthereaklife · 13/12/2021 07:32

So is omicron potentially serious in unvaccinated do we know yet ?

Octavia174 · 13/12/2021 07:55

No it isn't. It's just been proven that the double jabbed are not protected against omicron and they've also been spreading delta for months
Absolutely no need to cause segregation

Thats not true, double AZ, offers little against transmission and infection but still helps with serious illness.

Segregation? people not vaccinated can get jabbed, why should a loved one of yours or mine be denied an ICU bed because some idiot wont get vaccinated?

Noeuf · 13/12/2021 07:57

Brilliant. Health Secretary now on LBC saying non urgent appointments (some) will be cancelled and GPS to focus on boosters. Booking online rammed , can’t access to manage appointment. Allegedly a priority with an nhs email from a month ago - couldn’t book til 17th. This is just a stupid idea to get people crammed into queues and panicking just before Christmas. If my child’s appointment is cancelled I’ll be livid.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/12/2021 07:58

the booster i just heard simply runs out of you transmitting after 3 months,
i am more than 3 months post my booster!

This is the new world

Regular boosters for it

WarriorN · 13/12/2021 08:06

They're not cancelling appts.

This has been in the planning stage for the last month or so.

We were actually told last week by someone locally managing vax that Monday 13th was a National roll out to all.

Gps will have paused routine asthma reviews for those will less serious asthma etc, routine thyroid tests etc. So letters won't have been sent out for appts. Those sorts of things can wait another month (I have both.)

Urgent cases of asthma will still be seen and treated. There's a huge number of Gp appts that are regular reviews. Those can be pushed back for a month to give out jabs.

There's also a lot of people eg pharmacists who were giving jabs and volunteering previously, working 12 hour shifts for free and others who've been specially trained, who are now going to volunteer.

My first jab was given to me by an army (no idea status.) the army have loads of medics who've been deployed everywhere.

I'd keep trying the booking (it was a bit crazy two weeks ago and I had to wait 5 mins) and look at council pages for walk ins. Locally they've been running for a week or so too.

She was talking about locking unvaccinated people down to reduce spread. How would that achieve anything if vaccinated people are still able to be infected?
LordEmsworth · 13/12/2021 09:10
@LordEmsworth Are there? Where? Last time I checked the nearest walk-ins were Man City stadium and somewhere in Birmingham. Shock
Chester Cathedral which will be open Wed, Thur & Fri this week for 7 hours - so 21 hours in total all week - and a church near Northwich.

I can well believe that in parts of Cheshire, Manchester or Birmingham would be closer than either.

TheVampiresWife · 13/12/2021 09:26

@Octavia174

Its a pity he did not announce real restrictions for the unvaccinated.
Why would he do that when he also said that two vaccinations don't offer enough protection from Omicron? What would be the point?

Also not sure what the point of vaccine passports would be given that fact.

Yes this is how it will be -regular boosters

Is that a big deal though to potentially stop you being very unwell?

*Why would he do that when he also said that two vaccinations don't offer enough protection from Omicron? What would be the point?

Vaccine passports are a stepping stone to ID cards, that is their point. Nothing to do with the pandemic.
