Is anyone being offered Pfizer as a booster?

Locally we only have Moderna being offered. I wondered if it was pot luck, a Nationwide decision and if it’s possible to have a booster done privately to be able to pick?

DH had Pfizer and I had Moderna.

DH had Pfizer now for both doses plus booster and I had AZ then Moderna.

Different vaccination centres that we chose for ease so assume it's just what they had.

Pfizer in Surrey this week, friend in Berkshire, only 20 mins away got moderna same day. Both of us had 2x AZ before

@RoRoYoYo when it first came out they only had data to support storage at -70 degrees for ?6 months. As the vaccine has been around longer they now have data to support it being stored in an easier way - it can be stored in a regular fridge for up to 31 days after defrosting. I think the main problem with it now is the size of the batch you have to get, for some reason it's a lot of vials, but I presume pharmacies etc can share. Once it's been made up in the vial it needs to be used withing 6 hours.

@Cookerhood Thank you! That makes a lot of sense Smile

@SequinsandStiIettos

AZ was never planned to be a booster as the CovBoost study showed the mRNA vaccines to be better as boosters

Thanks, just looked it up now. Wonder why that is. Am double-jabbed and had my Pfizer booster yesterday. Arm hurts, otherwise okay so far.
Any idea when I can have my 'normal' flu vaccination? How long should I leave it?

You can have your flu vaccine any time. You can have the vaccines together if you so wish

@Cookerhood

So they'd be able to give him a full dose. The full dose is 0.5 mL, the half dose is 0.25mL. all out of the same vial.
Not if he needs a 3rd dose of AZ. Immunosuppressed need three normal doses then a booster. A half Moderna is a booster not a 3rd dose
Cookerhood · 11/12/2021 17:44

I believe that's what I said! (I'm a vaccinator).I thought even the third primaries were Pfizer/Moderna not AZ, but maybe not.

TenoringBehind · 11/12/2021 17:53

Only Pfizer is offered where I live

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/12/2021 17:54

This is a man who won’t touch courgette because he has an issue with cucumber.

You can be allergic to cucumber and courgette, they are related plants. Don't think there is any evidence that either is related to Pfizer/Moderna though Grin.

I had booster today and was put under a LOT of pressure to have Moderna.
JCVI recommend Pfeizer after 2 AZ (which I’d had previously) due to Moderna causing more of a reaction/side effects. I had to really push to have Pfeizer (north west)

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 11/12/2021 18:08

I had Pfizer at Guy's in London.

MintJulia · 11/12/2021 18:09

I wasn't offered the Pfizer booster, it was the only one being given on the day.

After two AZ jabs, no side effects from the Pfizer booster.

Killergigglebunnies · 11/12/2021 18:15

I had Pfizer booster on Sunday, Luton.
I heard the staff telling people if they needed a specific jab to look online.

YukoandHiro · 11/12/2021 18:18

I had a Pfizer booster in south London. My first two were AZ

ScarletPower · 11/12/2021 18:24

I had mine done today at a vaccination centre. They said they were doing pfizer one week, and Moderna the next on a rota basis. I had the Moderna today

Rizzoli123 · 11/12/2021 18:31

Husband had Pfizer friend had moderna. Both same area

Sevensilverrings · 11/12/2021 19:05

When I looked at walk-in local availability in the South West via the central booking site, it listed which vaccine was being given at each vaccine centre, so I was able to choose. I don’t know if that’s national, or if it’s changed since then though..?

Chickydoo · 11/12/2021 19:19

Pfizer London, just took what I was offered

Redwinestillfine · 11/12/2021 19:23

Ours had both, I was allocated Pfizer, northwest.

EenyMeenyMinyNo · 11/12/2021 19:25

My parents had moderna a month or more ago, we went to the same centre today and it was pfizer for all.

OpalOwl · 11/12/2021 19:34

DH had moderna 3 days ago, I went today and got pfizer. Same centre.
Didnt get an option but was just pleased to receive a booster, CV and still struggling with long covid since January.
I had to check DHs card when he got home as he hadnt even checked, as he pointed out we're not chemists we dont really understand the difference anyway!

Littleelffriend · 11/12/2021 19:37
