Is anyone being offered Pfizer as a booster?

Locally we only have Moderna being offered. I wondered if it was pot luck, a Nationwide decision and if it’s possible to have a booster done privately to be able to pick?

Pfizer booster South East

gsaoej · 11/12/2021 16:24

Our centre (small) was giving Pfizer boosters, now they’re giving Moderna. Me and dh got Moderna today, my mum got Pfizer a few weeks ago. So it does change even at the same location.

FreeBritnee · 11/12/2021 16:24

@HereComesSpringAgain has just completely saved the day. Just made the phone call and can book a Pfizer booster no issues. I can’t tell you how happy I am 💐💐💐💐

In my part of wales it seems to be all Pfizer. Never heard of anyone here having moderna.

stopringingme · 11/12/2021 16:28

@FreeBritnee
There is a Pfizer clinic in Bedford - walk in

Or you can just look up a postcode near you and that will tell you where Pfizer is available.

polkadotpjs · 11/12/2021 16:31

Lancashire here. No option for Pfizer where I went. I feel rough as and wish I'd booked elsewhere where I know they have Pfizer
Headache, upset stomach and my arm feels like I've been punched

sonicshoegazes · 11/12/2021 16:34

I had Pfeizer that's all we had. I had mine on Tuesday.

I had 2 AstraZeneca jabs prior to this. I'm in Wolverhampton.

Tal45 · 11/12/2021 16:38

Moderna is apparently better if you've had 2 AZ - from the BBC;

In people who had received two doses of AZ, the study found a 30-fold rise in antibody levels after a Moderna booster, and a 25-fold rise after a Pfizer booster.

HaaaaaveyoumetTed · 11/12/2021 16:38

I got Pfizer but I'm north west. Pfizer is now comirnaty though.

Chloemol · 11/12/2021 16:44

Yes I read that. However he’s had two Pfizer so far and wants the triple 😬. For those who have had AZ though, having Moderna or Pfizer as a booster seems to give great results.

I had Pfizer in Essex and first 2 were AZ. Dh had Pfizer on first 2 jabs then AZ. I think they are deliberate mixing. More effective?

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 11/12/2021 16:54

We were Pfizer as the default, with - I think - AZ available if you were unable to have the Pfizer for health reasons? I am in Scotland.

Lovingtheglitter · 11/12/2021 16:55

All 3 of mine - I had my booster jab yesterday - have been Moderna

bpirockin · 11/12/2021 17:01

I had AZ for two and Pfizer for the booster - it was the only one I had any after effects from.

ferneytorro · 11/12/2021 17:01

Pfizer east Lancashire, boss had modern he’s North Yorkshire

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/12/2021 17:04

I can sort of sympathise with him OP. I have a needle phobia but I'm booked for my booster and my irrational brain has decided I can only have Pfizer even though I know as I'm typing this there's not much difference!

Mickarooni · 11/12/2021 17:05

@OneOfTheGrundys

The man behind me at the drop in had no spleen and lower immune system. They wouldn’t give him Moderna there and told him to go to another place where they had AZ doses available to match what he’d already had. Obvs different between individuals.
That’s because the Moderna booster is only half a dose and if you’re immune compromised and in need of a third dose, you need a full third dose.
Cookerhood · 11/12/2021 17:07

So they'd be able to give him a full dose. The full dose is 0.5 mL, the half dose is 0.25mL. all out of the same vial.

IamaPineapple · 11/12/2021 17:09

I think you need somewhere with cold storage to get the Pfizer, in our area that's at or near the hospitals. I guess those places could be doing the other vaccines too though.

Badnightguaranteed · 11/12/2021 17:11

I was told Pfizer is being held back for under 18s. So had moderna, felt horrific afterwards.

The storage isn't so tricky now.
Kshhuxnxk · 11/12/2021 17:26

I had Pfizer - Scotland- horrific side effects. DM also had Pfizer- no side effects!

RoRoYoYo · 11/12/2021 17:28

@Cookerhood I was thinking about this the other day as so many pharmacies are doing Pfizer now. What's changed? Why is storage not as difficult as it was at the start?
