Remember your actions can harm others. I know the Government don’t care about other people but I don’t want to stoop to their level.
If cases are rising it’s going to impact anyone who needs hospital treatment not just COVID patients. Not just because we don’t have the beds but staff will be off sick. I’m not going to stick two fingers at the Government and risk my elderly mum’s health. More cases will mean visiting restrictions in care homes, something else I wouldn’t want.
Boris can do one but unfortunately COVID isn’t going away and we need to keep cases at a reasonable level so we can live with it, but we are not there yet
^^ This. I work in a school (non-classroom staff) so no social distancing, no masks until recently, groaning about staff needing to go out during the day to get 2nd vacc now boosters.
I have a secondary school aged child and an elderly parent living independently at their home. I haven't done anything extra - eg socially at restaurants, theatres etc. Last month I was just beginning to get more confident - so began to arrange a few things. (many of which are already cancelled by the organisers).
I saw a good friend yesterday. Her child was having a major operation a couple of weeks ago. Major - removal of a tumour. She's been in bits. So we met carefully - the op was cancelled - they have just retired - went out for a retirement bash caught COVID and is in hospital (despite double jabbed etc), but not for the op. That is cancelled indefinitely until the DC is strong enough.
So despite Boris and all the fucking shittery - we do need to keep going supporting each other and our communities.
