Anyone else think our government took the royal piss last Christmas?

So the whole Downing Street party last year...this has really riled me. They put us all on restrictions against seeing family and friends while they all had a Christmas piss up with wine, cheese and no social distancing.
My MIL spent last Christmas alone 80 miles away as she didn't want to breach any rules, I know she could have come as she lives alone but she didn't believe it was allowed.
Now there's talk of restrictions on this Christmas? Well I'm sorry but I won't be complying with any restrictions over Christmas, I'll be seeing family as planned.
Our government is beyond useless

Utterly outrageous. And the "mock" press conference!? Just mocking us losers who followed the rules.

Katie517 · 07/12/2021 21:50

It’s disgusting and is the final nail in the coffin for any hope they had of anyone following restrictions on seeing their family and friends again. The laughing about it is the worst, thankfully I saw my family last Christmas but if I was one of the millions of people who blindly followed the rules I would be even more furious. It’s been evident throughout that it’s one rule for them and a different for everyone else and I am so glad everyone is starting to realise it.

StrangeAddiction · 07/12/2021 21:50

They take the piss because they know they can! The great British public love a good moan but ultimately will do fuck all about it!

I honestly don't know how they have got away with everything during this pandemic.

bumbleymummy · 07/12/2021 21:51

It’s very unlikely anyone will comply with restrictions on their Christmas this year after this has been exposed.

Definitely! It was like they were literally laughing at us

Agree with this. I followed all rules and work for the NHS, this is a massive kick in the teeth for all keyworkers and everyone who followed the rules. This Christmas I'll do as I please

I am also really angry at this. I keep thinking about the time last year that DS wanted to visit his 91-year-old grandma who he hadn't seen for months. DS had recently recovered from Covid, so it would have been a very safe time to visit, but his grandma said no because she was worried about breaking Covid rules.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 07/12/2021 21:56

Absolute bastards. I don't think anyone will comply with the rules anymore. I certainly won't be.

I followed all the rules because I work for the NHS, I work on a covid ward and last year on that ward was harrowing. I look back at the way I followed all the rules and dreaded shifts at work so I didn't bring it home and think why? Most people I work with feel the same. It's an absolute scandal

Too right they did I’m fuming we all followed rules and they just laugh at us. One rule for us one for them, hypocrites the lots of them.

Glugglejug · 07/12/2021 22:00

This has made me beyond sad. I flicked back through my camera roll to see what I was doing on 18th dec last year and like the vast majority of the country, it was ‘fuck all’.

HalfWomanHalfMincePie · 07/12/2021 22:01

A bunch of selfish immoral cu nts, the lot of them. They can go to hell.

PieMistee · 07/12/2021 22:02

My aunt died alone s the week of this party. I hate them

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 07/12/2021 22:03

I'd already been saying we'll be pleasing ourselves this Christmas regardless of whatever bullshit rules are brought in, this has just cemented it.

It's only last week there was a thread on here and most posters were having a go at people who said they're going to do as they like this Christmas. Bet they feel daft now.

100% I'll be doing what I like regardless of any rules or restrictions. They cannot expect the public to take them seriously anymore

DS2 and DDIL spent last Winter, including Christmas, living in a caravan. They usually live with her parents however they’re nurses, Covid was rife in the community and their hospital and her dad is CEV so they moved into the caravan on the drive. They didn’t even go inside the house for a shower. They couldn’t come here because they were Tier 3 and they were working Christmas Day. It took a huge toll on DDIL’s mental health and one of DS2’s friends and colleagues died from Covid on the ICU in the hospital they work in.

I have obeyed every single rule and guideline put down by the Govt however if they think I won’t be seeing DS2 on the days that we’ve decided to have our own Christmas this year (he’s working Christmas Day again) they can get to fuck.

Well clearly they're all a bunch of absolute bottom of the barrel scum sucking tosspots....but.... I'll still be maintaining a distance from people this Christmas because the only people I would want to spend time with outside of my DH and DD are my in laws and they are all vulnerable for various medical reasons.

I don't follow the rules because the govt tells me to, I follow the logic of not wanting to infect people I love and who are more likely to be made seriously Ill by this virus. The simple fact is I have a 7 yr old in primary school who is always a Covid infection risk, and a 94yr old Nan-in-law who is cared for by MIl who's in her 70s with rheumatoid arthritis.

We'll do an outdoor meet up with MIL, we'll do virtual meet ups and phone calls, we'll exchange presents but spending hours indoors together is too big a risk with the Transformers variant invading the country.

It's a disgrace and I am so pleased I kept on seeing my mum and family despite what the government said.

DeclareThePenniesOnYourEyes · 07/12/2021 22:14

This government are cunts.

This is not news to a lot of us!

KrispyKale · 07/12/2021 22:14

I'm sorry too PieMistee.

KrispyKale · 07/12/2021 22:14

They've really gone beyond on this one.

MimiDaisy11 · 07/12/2021 22:15

I don't follow the rules because the govt tells me to

This! I don’t like that the response from many is that they’re going to act recklessly because the government is incompetent. We’re not teenagers rebelling against our parents. We should act responsibly even when the government doesn’t.
