Anyone else think our government took the royal piss last Christmas?

So the whole Downing Street party last year...this has really riled me. They put us all on restrictions against seeing family and friends while they all had a Christmas piss up with wine, cheese and no social distancing.
My MIL spent last Christmas alone 80 miles away as she didn't want to breach any rules, I know she could have come as she lives alone but she didn't believe it was allowed.
Now there's talk of restrictions on this Christmas? Well I'm sorry but I won't be complying with any restrictions over Christmas, I'll be seeing family as planned.
Our government is beyond useless

We had to cancel Xmas and tell a 3 year old we couldn't fly from NI to Scotland coz of the rules. He was heartbroken. Had to run round finding Turkey and Ham for us all and getting last minute presents in as all his stuff was in Scotland. Disgrace.

milly74 · 07/12/2021 22:33

Of course they did
the video is awful. They were laughing at us the whole time
Good luck getting compliance with any future "restrictions"

the80sweregreat · 07/12/2021 22:33

She was laughing at every single one of us.
It makes me feel sick

VikingOnTheFridge · 07/12/2021 22:34

@PieMistee

My aunt died alone s the week of this party. I hate them
You have every right to. It's justified anger. I'm sorry for your loss.
KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 07/12/2021 22:35

@LilyPond2 I'm in the north too and honestly lockdown never really ended for us lot last year did it! I remember threads on here about what people were doing now they had some freedoms back and they couldn't understand how I (and many more from the north) were saying we still couldn't do anything!

The government have made fools out of everyone. That's a fact. And the chances of getting anyone to do anything remotely like the restrictions that have previously been imposed are pretty much zero now.

the80sweregreat · 07/12/2021 22:35

It's just fucking disgusting!
The whole lot of them , a complete shambles

Spikeyball · 07/12/2021 22:35

Boris wants us all to carry on with our parties. This coming out will mean people do just as Cummings eye test encouraged people to 'break' lockdown.

onlychildhamster · 07/12/2021 22:35

@bumbleymummy i will comply. I don't really celebrate Christmas but I had plans last year that were ruined by last year's last minute lockdown(live in London so could not see anyone).

Just because the government is ridiculous and incompetent and disregards human life doesn't mean it's right.

milly74 · 07/12/2021 22:36
@lightisnotwhite Exactly. We had a “party” in the office last year. I wonder how many other people did?!
Not us. We worked all through but the office was closed. We worked in isolation. No chance of going out for a meal in tier 3 - hospitality closed, takeaway only. Even going for a coffee outside was criminalised. No chance of getting a haircut or browsing the shops. No going to the gym, no theatres, no cinema. No popping to see relatives in hospitals, or care homes. Children at home more than in school with patchy online learning. But hey, different rules in Downing Street obviously.
we have been well and truly had over this.

the80sweregreat · 07/12/2021 22:36

If they want any restrictions at all now, then I'm afraid nobody will bother..
they have shot them selves in the foot
Big time

We never came out of lockdown 1! We went out of that into "special measures" then the tiers came in.
No way will I comply now.

@Puppylucky

A poster on another thread made the most powerful comment. Ask yourself why the people telling us to be afraid weren't afraid themselves. That's the question that needs to be answered.
The cynic in me says that they weren't afraid because they're too self centred to think about the risk they pose to other people and so egotistical they've convinced themselves they're too important/brilliant/powerful to get Covid bad enough to be worried about.
LagganBubble · 07/12/2021 22:39

This government lacks moral leadership. It's like a fish rotting from the head down

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 07/12/2021 22:42

@LilyPond2 and @KurtWildesChristmasNamechange I'm in Leicester the first city to go into 'local lockdown' so I can commiserate with you 😂 There was one particularly memorable point in all the stupidness last year where the county was released from lockdown but the city remained. I live just inside the city border so had to walk past shops I wasn't allowed to go in to get to the park I was allowed to walk in but that the council had decided to keep the locks on the playground equipment for hygiene reasons. That whole set up was fun to explain to a 6 yr old.

Everyone who works in Downing Street gets tested daily. Still, one rule for them , one rule for us plebs.
KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 07/12/2021 22:43

Yep this was us too.

They made mugs of us all.

Never, ever again.

BunsyGirl · 07/12/2021 22:50

@milly74 My office was in tier 3 too and was in an area with additional restrictions from early October onwards. That didn’t stop us having a drink and nibbles in the office though…

RedToothBrush · 07/12/2021 22:51

The Key Question here is nothing to do with what happened with the party itself.

This video has been leaked by someone who had access to this tape - so must have had a fair amount of seniority. So who is it? And why did they do so.

The second question leads from that. Why leak this - so who was it and what is their agenda?

This didn't just radonmly happen.

And why now?

The why now is being leaked before immediately before Christmas again. What is the likely public reaction?

The film is likely to lead to more saying 'well im going to ignore the rules going into Christmas.

For what purpose.?

herecomesthsun · 07/12/2021 22:55

Well, I think the Matt Hancock tape was released with the specific aim of getting Hancock to resign.

When he didn't resign immediately, a bit more tape was released.

Do you think another resignation is desired and if so, whose resignation and who is doing the targeting?

LilyPond2 · 07/12/2021 22:55

I remember picking DD up from a small gathering in a friend's garden. She'd had such a good time. I said I had a feeling meeting in gardens would be banned soon, and sure enough it was. There was a final evening when DD sat in our garden with a friend as it got dark, as we knew meeting in gardens was about to be criminalised...

bellamountain · 07/12/2021 22:57

Well it just makes me feel like a mug if I'm being honest. Although I suspect the real reason so many people complied last Christmas is for fear of the neighbours snitching....!

We weren't allowed in the office! It was closed. The main reason being we technically couldn't travel into Manchester without breaching lockdown rules. North, Tier 3, special measures. Also only so many allowed in the office at one go to comply with the social distancing. Oh if only we had known then what we know now....

PoorMegHopkins · 07/12/2021 23:05

Why do they want this out now? What are they trying to get through without anyone noticing? Hmmm.

BunsyGirl · 07/12/2021 23:08

@milly74 Our office was never fully closed, not even when there was a full lockdown. It wasn’t illegal to open an office.
