Anyone else think our government took the royal piss last Christmas?

So the whole Downing Street party last year...this has really riled me. They put us all on restrictions against seeing family and friends while they all had a Christmas piss up with wine, cheese and no social distancing.
My MIL spent last Christmas alone 80 miles away as she didn't want to breach any rules, I know she could have come as she lives alone but she didn't believe it was allowed.
Now there's talk of restrictions on this Christmas? Well I'm sorry but I won't be complying with any restrictions over Christmas, I'll be seeing family as planned.
Our government is beyond useless

@Watapalava

tbh i cant believe anyone followed such ridiculous rules at xmas time anyway - everyone i know just did what they want and more fool those that didn't. Even now, with everything people know, some still follow every rules to the letter - some aren't even official rules - just made up rules. Its like noone can think for themselves.
It wasn't just the not mixing with people though. Businesses were closed down, hospitality closed down, food waste from countless cancelled Christmas dinners in restaurants and pubs. People have short memories it seems Confused
milly74 · 07/12/2021 23:59

I think people have forgotten the regional differences and indeed north/south variations in restrictions. We never left lockdown 1 and believe me it was strict!

PrincessNutNuts · 08/12/2021 00:00

Ant and Dec's "Evening Prime Minister" bit made me laugh though.

GellerYeller · 08/12/2021 00:04

And while the rest of us have gone back to work, a senior civil servant is reported as saying she can't get her staff off WFH, prefers to use her former commute time on her Peloton bike, and only goes in for meetings to 'stop the male staff dominating the female colleagues'.
Notwithstanding the fact that she's running a department clearly populated with stereotypes from the 1970s:
What is wrong with these people?

Polkadotties · 08/12/2021 00:05

I’m in Essex, wasn’t allowed to go in anyones house last Christmas

GreenLunchBox · 08/12/2021 00:06

Hmmmmm.

The government breaking the rules with parties and laughing behind our backs about it (Allegra etc) is perplexing because it's like they don't think covid is real. They are laughing at it in the footage. Very strange. I had colleagues die and go to intensive care so I know the reason for the rules. I'm perplexed the government, who are mainly middle aged to old people, seem to think they're not at risk from it. Boris 'went to intensive care' as well. That MP who travelled on a train from Scotland to London with covid.... It's all so perplexing. I don't know what to think

I'll risk assess and only stick to the rules if I think the risk from covid isn't that great, nothing to do with ',following the rules'

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 08/12/2021 00:07

Honestly I do think some people have actually forgotten the restrictions that were placed on much of the country last year right before Christmas.

PrincessNutNuts · 08/12/2021 00:09

Tier 3 rules

@GreenLunchBox I suspect a lot of people will take this same sensible measured approach now. Sadly some will see the government's attitude as cue to throw out the rule book entirely. Sad

BunsyGirl · 08/12/2021 00:11

@milly74 you’re absolutely right about people not remembering correctly. I was in additional restrictions (in the South) from early October but my family in the North didn’t have them until December. They (in the North) were allowed to mix on Christmas Day but my relatives in London were not….

Summerfun54321 · 08/12/2021 00:11

I don’t know why people aren’t on the streets protesting for better people in charge. Ones that can rescue the NHS from total ruin. It’s a crises, but we’re all just plodding along accepting it in a very British disgruntled way.

vera99 · 08/12/2021 00:16

Johnson has always been a piece of absolute filth surprised that any are surprised by this revelation.Shat on everybody and anybody in his fat corpulent narcissistic life.

BunsyGirl · 08/12/2021 00:19

@milly74 we had reduced capacity in our office to comply with social distancing. You seem to be confusing the law with the decisions made by your employer. My employer (perfectly legally) decided not to fully close so that those who couldn’t work from home for a good reason always had access to the office. For example, some of my colleagues work on highly sensitive matters that would be inappropriate to discuss in front of children at home so needed a quiet private space to work from.

No, I know it wasn't the law but the restrictions just made it completely impossible. They tried to open but just couldn't make it work and the advice from the Government in any case was work from home if you can.We could and so people were resistant to coming in. They just couldn't make it work. That's what I'm trying to say.

You are right. They have

If it was a bunch of 30 year olds acting like this I wouldn't be so confused. I would think it's because they know they're not really at risk.But they are mainly middle aged to old people so it's really very strange

Maybe I need to jump on the conspiracy theory thread with this Confused

GreenLunchBox · 08/12/2021 00:37

Jacob Rees Mogg must be about 120 now (when was the Victorian era?)

I do too.

Most of England was in tier 3 or 4 by Christmas.

Anyone else think our government took the royal piss last Christmas?
KrispyKale · 08/12/2021 00:42

It doesn't necessarily need a conspiracy theory. I wonder if it's congenital arrogance combining with an exclusively arts based education. 🤷😏

They are such inept sociopaths.

@milkyaqua

They are such inept sociopaths.
The various factions of the Conservative party are always scheming against each other.

Somebody saved this up for a whole year.

LINABE · 08/12/2021 01:09

@StrangeAddiction

They take the piss because they know they can! The great British public love a good moan but ultimately will do fuck all about it!

I honestly don't know how they have got away with everything during this pandemic.

This in spades...
GellerYeller · 08/12/2021 01:10

I've had shielding parents, people I know become seriously ill with covid, and typical of most families seen weddings/concerts/proms/trips to overseas family cancelled. Not moaning, I accept that's a standard experience for most people recently. But the timing of these party revelations and the message they send-it's understandable people are aggrieved.
